  1. Wow, CBS isn’t playing when it comes to putting their best foot forward with the launch of this serial.
  2. I think BTG is aiming for a slightly different demographic vs. GH anyway. They want to capitalize on CBS Daytime’s historical success with Black viewers, and I’m sure they hope the halo of viewership from the Bell soaps will carry over as well as catching viewers who don’t normally watch soaps or haven’t in a while.
  3. As the network that already had the most soaps on its lineup (albeit just 2), it always made sense that CBS would add a third (as unlikely as it appeared) vs. ABC or especially NBC. BTG would have to be a gigantic success for other networks to want to think about adding another daytime soap. That’s not pressure BTG needs on it’s shoulders as it gets off the ground - let’s just appreciate this moment for what it is as no one expected that we would be here just a year ago. I do think a streamer should toy with the idea of a daily soap (even if they have to film in cheaper locations), as I think that could be a possibility if the economics are properly worked through.
  4. I wonder what the nationwide clearance is for the show across all the CBS affiliates. New soaps have typically struggled with that - B&B, in fact, went years without being scheduled by some affiliates and it took a vigorous campaign by the Bell’s to help make that happen. The plus side is that this is the first daily soap debuting during the streaming era. Hoping that’s strong to compensate for unpredictable linear TV ratings.
  5. Conspiracy theories aside, the Chiefs played horribly (especially that entire first half). That wasn’t their finest hour and the right team won based on how the game was played.
  6. I'd take it over any of sh!t openings we've had since Valentini came on.
  7. They should use the abundance of HBCUs in Georgia to recruit new and up and coming talent being the scenes as well. Michele and Bob are in their 70’s, and no one is clamoring for people like Carlivati or Bibel to take over the reigns when they step aside… I hope Michele uses this opportunity as a chance to foster new/young black writers who can carry on her legacy.
  8. How many times has the Queen Vic been on fire again?
  9. CBS posted a YouTube-version of this video as well:
  10. There is a sense that both Sheila Ducksworth and Michele Val Jean consider this their life's work. It will certainly be their professional legacies. Sheila makes it very clear that MVJ is the driving creative force, and that Guza works as her Co-HW, helping her write the thrusts/long-story. I'd love a new interview with those two talking about their initial vision for the show and characters. Guza (rightfully) seems to be taking a very "silent partner" approach when it comes to publicity/press, but it would be good to understand how they work together and what MVJ thinks he brings to this project centered around people of colour (never a strong suit for Guza).
  11. I think it’s possible he may have been confused and thought Sheila Ducksworth was also a co-creator given her role in getting this pushed through and on the air. But who is fact-checking this stuff before it prints?
  12. And to date the only black person that has created a daytime serial period. Leave it to the mainstream press to screw up the details.
  13. Loved this: “There is an audience out there that for decades had not been represented or catered to, to say, ‘This is for you,’” said Tamara Tunie, who will serve as the matriarch of the fictional, affluent and very messy Dupree dynasty. “And this is the Black audience. And the Black audience has been very loyal to daytime drama for decades and decades and decades. The Black dollars are very strong and waiting to be spent. I think that this show is being provided for that constituency.”
  14. Yeah, the cast page seems new/refreshed from the last time I saw it.
  15. Not sure if this was already posted, but the show's press hub is live on the Paramount press site. https://www.paramountpressexpress.com/cbs-entertainment/shows/beyond-the-gates//
  16. That's correct, a very long teaser at 1:38, and longer than many actual trailers for that matter.
  17. Well, the IP is now owned by Disney since the Fox acquisition, and you know they’ll have their hands (specifically Karey Burke) all over this sh!t (and hence the Hulu deal).
  18. Or a good Drew recast honestly as Mathison is so damn limited and lacks charisma.
  19. Official trailer is out tomorrow (and will premiere on Good Morning America), but Marvel released a teaser for the trailer today with some of Michael Giacchino’s score. You have to click out on the video as it won’t play in an embedded state. This is the last chance to make this IP work cinematically, and at the top of Feige’s priority list. Given the impending introduction of Doom, it seems like the F4 will be an instant splash in this universe. They have to get this right - they have to get the eventual X-Men introduction right as well (as it’s really the future of that cinematic universe), but X-Men in Marvel’s hands is almost guaranteed to print cash, the F4 is not cinematically.
  20. Are they going to drop the accent or have Chris fake one, lol? That said, McKenna was great as a young actor on OLTL and very good in a throwaway role on Y&R.
