Beverly Hills, 90210 Discussion Thread
I know this post was from last year but season 4 is one of my absolute favorite seasons. It was pretty perfect. Although I never liked Andrea being pregnant. I thought it all went downhill later. Oh well. It just seemed like "we have nothing to do with her so oh well, make her pregnant" lol Incredibly sad. I feel for their families (and fans, as I was a fan of both of them). It was a rough week. I felt bad for Ian having to deal with two co-stars close to him passing within days of each other. I always enjoyed seeing Jed Allan on 90210, it was my first exposure to Jed and I just loved him (and I loved him in everything else he did, just great and I think sometimes underrated) With this news last week Sad to say but I agree with Carl. Perry's look was of it's time and wouldn't fly in the world of Beibers and Shawn Mendes and chiseled instagram models. He was different and in a very good way. I will miss him a lot.

Lecy really nails it. She's so good, IMO. I'm so happy she's getting a chance to shine. I always liked her and thought she was underrated. It bugged me how they wrote Becky when Sarah Chalke played the role. They attempted something with her at first but sort of bailed (probably because Sarah Chalke was very green, but the potential talent was absolutely there) and she became a walking joke that Darlene overpowered. I missed the old relationship they had. It was just so different and Sarah was ultimately a placeholder. It does feel a tad weird to not have Roseanne there, and never a mention (I have some past episodes to catch up on and just watched the most current episode). I mean, I understand ... but still. And I've noticed, like this last episode, where they could have basically slotted either Darlene or Roseanne into the family bulldog role, such as in the vending machine company owner's office. That could have easily been Roseanne telling him off. I mean, it works with Darlene, so the loss isn't as much, IMO, but I still sometimes feel it and thought about her in that scene, for some reason. I really loved the subplot of Lanford's Premiere Life Coach Jackie Harris helping her niece Becky realize she was basically ... Jackie. I did love the "biker bar, cop bar ..." shout out. It always felt natural that Becky and Darlene would basically become Jackie and Roseanne, respectively. And can I just say I adore Dan and Mark's relationship It really does

I loved Paul Taylor. I agree he had great chemistry with them. I feel like Hogan's tenure was a lot of misses. Potential at times, but the ball got dropped and some of the casting decisions were head scratching. I blame Goutman for most of it. Just a terrible producer. I wasn't the biggest Bonnie fan but I kind of liked the actress at the time and it just seemed dumb to dump both of them. (And the recast was filler most of the time; zzzz) But Goutman was a moron so ... just makes me angry. ATWT had so much potential over the years and it was just squandered by that man and poor writing. Wouldn't surprise me. Goutman's always felt petty to me.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Thanks. I don't pay as close attention to the UK soaps comings and goings but I do try and keep up. It does seem they swap a lot, at least in the last decade or so I feel like I kept hearing the same names go from soap to soap and it usually doesn't work out. Much like how we recycle the same HWs and Producers and it usually doesn't work out.

Seems the UK soaps are just as bad with shuffling the same producers back and forth on all the soaps, lol. In the times I've watched EE, I never enjoyed the Kat/Alfie relationship ...

- Closeted (gay) actors formerly on the soaps
lol yes. I think everyone knows he plays for our team. He doesn't necessarily hide it and he shouldn't. Did anyone mention Kevin Spirtas? Probably ... lol Groff was another one I always knew was gay. It's so sad to feel like you have to hide who you are.- Closeted (gay) actors formerly on the soaps
LOL PAS and Peter Porte have great taste ... Not surprised at all by any of the more recent actors who have come out (when I say that I just mean in the public spectrum they're living out and proud; I have no doubt they've been out for a long long time, lol). My signal pinged on them long before they were public. I knew Bennett was playing for my team the minute I saw him in 2001 and PAS always was on my radar. Most of the guys who've come out over the years haven't been at all a surprise to me (hi, Matt Bomer), lol. I guess Brent Weber surprised me a bit but it really doesn't. They're so cute and adorable together LMAO No Yep. And he looks better with hair. LOL. And his boyfriend/husband looks like he could be related to Frank Valentini hmmm ... I'm usually pretty spot on at figuring it out. lol. I just smile and nod anytime I get confirmation Yeah I believe he definitely is. Isn't Susan Flannery too?- Developing: 90210 Reboot with Original Cast!
I could do without Tori. I feel like this came out of nowhere! Sure you could. And who's to say there wouldn't be new youth? Or we wouldn't see the complex on MP? The characters are what viewers want to see. 90210 in 2008 didn't necessarily benefit from a new youth cast, IMO. It was a mess for five/six seasons. And same for the MP reboot. The sad thing is, both reboots had potential but they were hot messes (and it infuriated me how they had no idea what to do with MP; I'd much prefer to forget that version and I wouldn't mind McCord or Stroup coming onto the new 90210 reboot. I could do without Grimes). I lost interest in nu90210 after the second/third seasons. No thanks. But I did like some of the cast in both. I could do without Tori and Donna. I'd be stunned to see Brian Austin Green and Priestley do it. I'm sure Ziering was pissed he was never included in the old reboot. He'd probably be all over this. Even Luke Perry seemed to have softened on the idea, but he's busy playing daddy on Riverdale. I'd prefer this on a streaming service as well. I don't know if lightning would strike twice should say FOX be interested. Curious to see where all of this goes. Love her. I was always a fan of her on SBTB and was elated to discover her on BH90210 just kicking ass and taking names. She was delightful. Valerie's one of my absolute favorites. But I'd be surprised to see her involved. She seems to be doing her own thing.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
- Queer As Folk Reboot Bravo Bound
Yeah, I'm not sure about this one either. I also felt "Looking" was a tad overpraised. I guess it did face some criticism, that does ring a bell when you bring it up. I guess my impression overtime is that it's been a bit overpraised but yeah it did get some criticism early on. It wasn't very good, lol. I mean, I appreciate they are doing shows with gay leads, and it matters, but at the same time, none of these shows have been all that appealing to me, personally, for a variety of reasons.- Queer As Folk Reboot Bravo Bound
lol yep. I always felt it was kind of overpraised. It got a pass because it featured LGBT characters as leads.- "The Conners" Discussion Thread
Agreed so much. And I'm so happy it's coming back (I can't see them not working everything out). It was a no-brainer.- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Well, that too, lol. Sadly watching US soaps I'm used to hollow, meaningless and damaging.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Late to this but I love it and yes, people *always* tell you who they are ... It's quite interesting seeing him do what he accuses others of. We've been here before ... Ironically, and accidentally, seems to really go with "when people tell you who they are ... listen" ... Love you both @EricMontreal22 and @DramatistDreamer- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I haven't watched in a long long time, but isn't the whole Christmas death thing a little overdone at this point? Why does everything have to be so damn dark on the UK soaps? LOL. That's the only thing that often drives me back away. I get so many love it but it can get depressing .... lol- Dancing with the Stars: Discussion Thread
I actually totally see why they won. I agree he shouldn't have. But this actually shouldn't have been a shock. I've watched the show every season. I know how middle America votes ... and how the Bachelor nation votes ... but it was still disappointing. I've been losing interest and this season really didn't help. Starting with Tinashe, it was one right after the other. But John, Joe and Bobby lasting so long really wasn't a surprise. The "technical best" usually doesn't win. I've always felt America voting is flawed. Our elections alone prove that. But they need to overhaul the voting process somehow ... but it's never going to be perfect. I've often questioned the results and did even more so when in All Stars they had Sabrina exit the same week she did before. Come on .... lol And they can basically throw whoever they want in the bottom two. They usually say "only one of them" got the lowest combined votes and scores. I guess too they may not want to keep placing the same couple in jeopardy week after week. But sometimes they do. It's still a reality show and they want to make interesting television. A season with a lot of potential in the start quickly became a joke and basically a mockery (and ratings have been on a rapid trend downwards; it's still not 'cancel worthy' by those measures, but I'm curious to see what they do going forward; and I feel like the Juniors version was several years too late; I'd actually rather watch that one at this point, and that was all taped months ago ...) Sharna's win reminds me of Tony's in All Stars. It was just bound to happen and she had the right partner who had probably all of country music and middle america voting for him (at least Melissa Rycroft was solid though and it felt much more deserving; and random note but I still feel Edyta was robbed many times and I'm sad she never got a win). He does have a very popular radio show. When you think maybe logically, it's truly not a shock. But these types usually place second (David Ross) so it is kind of a first. But for many watching it's not about who's the best dancer. It should be, but it's also about the journey of the couple and the person dancing. It's actually not really hard anymore to somewhat loosely predict who will end up where and I'm often not far off. Although I still wouldn't have thought Bobby could actually pull it off. And the pro dancers aren't necessarily helping. I still don't feel like I know Keo or Gleb (and they're just quieter personalities which isn't a bad thing, I'm actually a quiet person when I'm not ranting on a message board). Jenna, meh ... Brandon had a lot of personality but he got cut early. Although Derek once was cut fairly early (Shannon Elizabeth) in his beginning too ...- "The Conners" Discussion Thread
She will (presumably). 11/27. At least it mentions her in the synopsis. No idea if we see her but I'm guessing so. Missed your post! lol- "The Conners" Discussion Thread
It was leveling out. I think ratings are close or a little lower than where they were. I haven't paid as close attention lately to the ratings like I was. I think it would have settled into where we are now regardless of Roseanne or no Roseanne. This Channing? I think she recognized she was out of place (I don't mean that negatively, or against her, just that sometimes a job isn't the right fit for someone and there's nothing wrong with that) and the network has struggled already under her, I think she saw the getting was good and she left. She wants to be in production. She's well liked but the job wasn't for her, and that's OK. At least that's how I'm reading it all. I just find the timing a bit interesting and the fact that they had somebody pretty much ready to assume her job so quickly leads me to think there's a tiny bit more going on here. And a blunder she made? Cancelling Last Man Standing. I know a lot goes into these calls but it was a clear, clear mistake. I knew it the second it happened. They were waiting for a reason to fire Roseanne, IMHO and she quickly gave them one. Channing never seemed to feel 100% towards Roseanne. And I don't blame her for not being. She knew what Roseanne would bring, I'm sure. Anyway, I think whoever was in charge would of had to fire Roseanne. ABC is meh. Sunday's are struggling. DWTS is aging and down on Mondays. Tuesday comedies are doing OK, I guess. Wednesday comedies are a mixed bag. This Is Us's rip-off isn't doing great and neither is The Rookie. Thursday is mixed and Friday isn't doing so hot, but it's Friday. But to be fair, I think we're in a different time where ratings are concerned. They aren't the full story anymore. I'm not saying they saw a problem with her but I think she saw where it was going, personally. Channing's a smart, smart woman.- Will & Grace Revival
I lost interest last season after the Christmas episode. It just turned back into the cartoon it was in the last few seasons. Still some funny stuff but there had been a tiny bit more depth in the first half. It felt different and better. Maybe this season is better in that regard but doesn't seem like it. I've got 5 episodes sitting on the dvr ... Schwimmer's hard to like as an actor sometimes so this role seems to be doing him no favors. JMO. And I feel like we've had similar romances for Grace. It feels tired. And all I see is Ross at 50 and angry and bitter living alone in NY being a catty bitch online. It's perfect! LOL. But I really haven't seen much so I don't quite know how it's going ... was trying to watch this Thursday though. Yeesh. Yeppers! I'm the same, I've got probably all episodes on the DVR and I tried watching some of this past Thursday's but Schwimmer turned me off. I just feel the show is tired again, already. It feels been there done that. It felt fresher when it came back last year. But there's no guarantee a new show will do any better. Superstore and Good Place aren't the true hits NBC and fans want them to be. They're well written shows but they remain niche sitcoms on a mainstream network. And to be fair, ratings everywhere are fairly horrible, but there are a few exceptions. Almost every single show on the air now would have been cancelled a good 5-10 years ago with the ratings they're getting. We're just in a different world and they haven't caught up. DVR tells the true story, but I understand the need for Live same day ratings. It's just antiquated and has been for decades. I really hope Murphy gets another chance. It was just buried at 9:30 (IMO) and has been a bit rusty but I think it's been slowly finding it's groove. I feel like the nostalgia wave has already died down a lot. It was no different than when everyone wanted an ER, when everyone now wants a This is Us. It's just a trend. Fuller House got a lot of buzz a few years ago. Now I have to struggle to find when the new season debuts .... everyone moves on to the new and shiny thing until they move on to the next ... I feel like Netflix has too many originals. I was glad to see them cancel a couple of shows ...- "The Conners" Discussion Thread
I didn't think Dungey was the right fit, personally, and it has nothing to do with the Roseanne firing. ABC has struggled under her almost from the start. I also think it looked bad for her that LMS (Last Man Standing) remains a solid hit on another network ... (kind of ironic in a way because I remember so many critics and even fans on other places where you can make comments bashing LMS and basically writing it off and wondering why ABC kept renewing it. And then all of sudden everyone was outraged when it was cancelled ...) - Closeted (gay) actors formerly on the soaps
