  1. Yeah, a more thorough investigation was somewhat of a foregone conclusion from what I've read over the past month and a half. Just read this article about a hate crime in Kansas and you cannot convince me that having white supremacists in the White House does not embolden people like these. Hate Crime Is Feared as 2 Indian Engineers Are Shot in Kansas
  2. I missed Milos vs. Kyle. Most of the matches in the past two weeks, I've missed, TBH. I did catch a couple of DelPo's matches, most of tonight's match included. I'm glad he won in straight sets because 90% of Sam's matches are excruciating to watch.
  3. Straight outta Putin's handbook.
  4. Doubles is fun to play but unless it's the Williams Sisters or maybe Fed Cup or Davis Cup or some unusual doubles pairing (Nadal and Tomic anyone??), I generally don't tune in.
  5. The Bryans have become increasingly vulnerable over the past several years plus Paes is a very experience and heralded doubles player in his own right and Rendy Lu is one of those diligent players who doesn't beat himself- he requires that you must put in the effort to beat him. So good for Lu and Paes.
  6. Lee Bryant also played Lyla Montgomery briefly in the 80s. I agree. She writes stories that have that "around the hearth" feel that so many P&G soaps were known for. Somehow though, soaps had the mistaken impression that they had to throw out pretty much all that they were known for (which was also the same element that made them successful and beloved) for something entirely different.
  7. Wait, do you mean Frank Runyeon? You have to be specific because there were a lot of tangled relations behind the scenes of ATWT in the 80s. @cassadine1991 OLTL 2.0. Really? Yikes. Okay.
  8. According to reports, Steve Darcis withdrew and flew back to Belgium because his little girl needs surgery. Hope all goes well for his daughter.
  9. I'm not sure why there was a change of actor. I'm curious and want to know what the story was behind the switch. Also, I feel similarly to you that Potter was fine in the role, I thought he worked well with Lisa and Lindsey and he was more subtle and understated in his menacing ways whereas Pine was over the top. This surprises me that Marland changed course with a character that was working out well, for the most part. I have questions (lol). Susan Horgan was pretty good writing for AMC 2.0, I thought. She's probably bitter about the soap experience after the bottom fell out with Prospect Park after appearing to come out of semi-retirement to write AMC for Prospect Park. It looks as if she was on ATWT's writing staff during this time. I mention her because she still seemed to be sharp while some other established writers tend to get complacent and somewhat lazy with their craft but she seemed to be up to the challenge a few years ago. I'm somewhat hazy on the entire Lafferty family. I only seem to remember one Linc but I somehow remember that they recast his mother.
  10. Wait, did someone just report that Steve Darcis retired from the next round match, giving Donald Young a walkover to the Semis?
  11. Trump and his cronies stand to make a lot of money in private prisons as they are already invested in the industry, so of course, they would bring back to the piggies to the trough. They're going to do their best to make Halliburton look like a small time operation in terms of using government to line their pockets. Also, no surprise that their 'war on drugs' would focus more on marijuana while leaving the more illicit drugs alone. I'm just going to go on ahead and put this out there-- many former coke users (including dearly departed Carrie Fisher) were adamant that they recognized signs of cocaine use in Trump. Of course, someone else also mentioned that if Trump cronies find a way in which marijuana is extremely profitable for them, they may hold off on the 'crackdown'. Although from what I read the industry has been shutting out small businesses in favor of corporate titans who want "in" on the industry's profits.
  12. Whoa, we'll never see 7 and 8 share for soaps again! Ryan's Hope and Search for Tomorrow look like standard ratings for today's soaps. Okay, maybe Y&R is now the Santa Barbara of the group. Marland did something that I don't think other soap writers could've done successfully- write 2 murder mysteries in the same year! I don't even think Edge of Night would've done that, not from the episodes I was able to see. The Doug Cummings and Tad Channing murder mysteries happened almost one after the other but the pacing was so brilliant that it didn't at all feel like overload. With stories like the Tom, Margo and Barbara story and Lucinda, Lily and Iva, even Craig, Sierra and Tonio with characters like Duncan and Shannon, the low-key relationship with Casey and Lyla developing- there was just so much! It never felt repetitive. Also Marland was great at embedding these characters so you didn't see a murder mystery until right before it was going to happen. Okay, maybe a little with Doug Cummings but I thought that Tad Channing was more likely to be driven out of town or arrested for committing fraud or extortion- his murder kind of snuck up on me! My only wish with the Channing storyline is that Marland had kept the original actor. I understand that Larry Pine was probably a more experienced actor but the writing had made Channing so venal when Pine took over the role that I couldn't fathom what on earth Iva could've ever have been attracted to! With the first actor, the writing made Channing seem more slick, prone to try to charm before resorting to aggressive tactics, not to mention the actor was easier on the eyes...so it wasn't that difficult to see why Iva could've fell for him for a short while with Larry Pine's version and the way Channing had morphed into almost pure and total evil, I was like "what was wrong with Iva to have fallen for this guy??!" I know Iva mentioned low self esteem but to me, there's no self-esteem that low!
  13. As for ATWT, 1986-1987 was so compelling, I wish every single episode were online! As many episodes as there are on You Tube, there are quite a few key episodes missing. Terry Lester was so cool and ruthless and devious as Jack. He could turn on the charm and then turn on a loved one, in the same scene!
  14. Wow! Did GL ever get their award/acknowledgement?? So many compelling clips. You'd be hard-pressed to find so many moments like that on today's soaps-but I try not to think about it too much.
  15. Speaking of Bannon and repulsion.
  16. Fritz probably does not possess the hunger that a player who comes from a less comfortable background might possess. Just a guess, but I don't really get a sense that there's ever been a deep desire to win every match from him. Good for Donald though. Hopefully he gets enough confidence that he can take down Harrison the next time they meet.

  19. Highly ironic that many Conservatives in the Northeast cite their approval of Trump's immigration policy due to places like suburban NY (e.g. Suffolk County), while NYPD now think that this immigration policy could actually make their jobs more difficult. Yesterday, NYPD made an official statement that they would not be asking immigration status of an crime victims or witnesses. They stated that they would comply with federal immigration law concerning suspects accused of serious crimes that threaten public safety. This article seems to be indicative of how police are now forced to grapple with whether there will be a now breakdown in the hard earned trust between police and the community- especially in communities with large immigrant populations. Police Fear Trump Immigration Orders May Handcuff Effort to Fight Gangs
