As dodgy as Mahut can be, when you're playing a French player in France, they all usually want to play well, so you can't take a win for granted against even the lowest ranked Frenchmen. So far, this has not been the best South American swing for Kei. He's probably pissed that he didn't play Memphis this year, that's Kei's 'gimme' tournament.

So Trump wants to deport all illegal immigrants to Mexico, whether they're Mexican nationals or not? What a mess that will be! Trump Plan: Deport to Mexico Immigrants Crossing Border Illegally, Regardless of Nationality " The idea is part of a raft of immigration proposals signed by Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly that are likely to spur international and legal challenges. " And then of course there's this, ICYMI. Trump’s first month of travel expenses cost taxpayers just less than what Obama spent in a year "Meanwhile, his budget proposal cuts programs for poor people."

Statement from Roxanne Gay (Bad Feminist) who dumped Simon & Schuster upon hearing that they were going to publish Milo What's-his-face, seems to have gotten the last laugh in the end.

It's going to be interesting to see when those first set of numbers that are truly from the Trump administration (not riding the Obama administration's coattails) come in, particularly from the agricultural sector. With these travel bans issued by executive order, it will also be interesting to see how the healthcare field (which uses an enormous amount of immigrant labor, some of the foreign doctors that many practices had hoped would fill vacant family doctor/GP positions have already been affected) will be impacted. Hold onto your hats.

Like CPAC, Simon & Schuster must've decided that the pedo pearl clutching troll was costing them money, so they dumped him.

@JaneAusten I think all of the other things were the reason that he was invited to CPAC in the first place. The GOP is perfectly fine with discrimination, white supremacy, racism, sexism and xenophobia and clearly physical, psychological and sexual violence.

More sunlight on yet another unsavory/suspect 'character' that is linked to Trump's cabal. Wish people had been this transparent and literate before the election but it is what it is, right? They say sunlight is the best disinfectant. I hope so. The writeup on this guy Sater is a doozy and that's saying a lot for this cabal.

Yeah, I read about the new head of the FCC. It's a shame when high intelligence intertwines with a total lack of empathy and foresight. I felt similarly about Condeleeza Rice. So Chris Wallace of Fox Newschannel is saying that at least Obama never viewed the press as the enemy. This is where we are now, folks. I haven't seen this show in ages since I no longer subscribe to cable but this struck me as why, controversy aside, I do miss watching Fareed Zakaria's show.

@Khan At least with PBS, you can watch most of their programs on their website and it you watch before the expiration date, you can watch for free.
-
The Politics Thread
@Khan Yeah, unfortunately, when I said "better move fast", I meant better take it all in while you can. Sadly, I think PBS may end up going the way of how education functions...on a state by state basis. Those PBS stations that are located in areas where there is a rich base of financial support like WNET Thirteen in NYC or WGBH in Boston, will probably continue to have the same programming standards without any major disruptions, while those PBS stations located in states that may not prioritize this type of programming may suffer. This administration doesn't just want to cut funding though, they want to totally eliminate it (or so they say). There are some Republicans, going back to Nixon that wanted to eliminate the Corporation for Public Broadcasting but they were never able to do so, only cut spending. With the GOP having majorities in both Houses, it's not just an idle fantasy. There may be enough Republican holdouts to stave off total elimination of funds but it's not a good position for these organizations to be in to have to rely on the party that has advocated for their destruction.

Better move fast, I've read Corporation for Public Broadcasting is on Orange Foolius' chopping block for the budget. You should see the list of things that the administration aims to eliminate, including a program for the Appalachian region and a drug treatment program (which, no offense, had anyone watched Trump's performance during the debates, it seems like there may have been some substance(s) consumed beforehand). Most people agree that taking away many of these programs (especially the arts) won't even dent the deficit and many of these programs (again, especially the arts) yield far more benefits beyond what they actually consume financially.
