My bad, I guess my memories after Nella #1 have sort of faded. It just seemed as though Rowell inherited a diminished form of the character, whereas Lemmons had more storyline in comparison.

These days she's best known as Billie Eilish's mom that is pictured in that thumbnail. What I liked most about Casey was the way that he was written initially. He was introduced in a way that was gradual, he was integrated into the cast in a way that made him a distinctive character yet he didn't take over storylines, he was absorbed into storylines alongside other character. I think making Casey a would-be rival with Seth Snyder for Frannie Hughes' affections helped to integrate the character by surrounding him with various characters in a way that stood out but not too much. By the time, he had branched off into a separate storyline as a result of being paired with Lyla, viewers felt as if we had grown to know this character. Soaps today do not take the time and effort to do this (I don't know why, since it's only their job). When Katie was brought back as an adult, the writers certainly didn't bother to try to gently integrate her character with the rest of the cast, they just created storylines to revolve around her which is why I think there was so much resentment of the character (which I think eventually trickled down to feelings about the actress among some viewers). As a doctor at Memorial, Casey was surrounded by Hughes, Dixons, Walshes (he was Lucinda's physician also), as well as Synders, Stewarts and eventually Montgomerys. This is why soaps always included doctors, lawyers, and proprietors of businesses in their cast of characters, so easy to integrate into the canvas because they interacted with most of the town, regardless of class and stations in life.

Victoria Rowell was Nella Franklin #3. Nella Franklin #2 Kasi Lemmons had departed from the role when her iteration of Nella left with Beau Farrell. I hated what that storyline did to Pam and Nella's friendship, another casualty of material written during the Writer's Strike.

From what I've read, there's been a stampede of withdrawals from the tournament. I know it's something of an exhibition now but still, not good. I think I preferred it when it was a $125K WTA tournament, at least then, the WTA site provided free streaming and kept it cute. This year, The Hawaiian Open pretty much seems like an indoor Challenger tournament. The one match I managed to see did bring a smile to my face though, to see MAGA-ite Christian Harrison gets his butt beat by Brandon Shinakawa, who literally just left college and whose only previous experience was in a few summertime Challenger tournaments.

Seeing that list reminds me that Cinemax is still around. And Galavision? Whew, I haven't thought about that channel in a minute! Also, what's the Tennis Network? Is that supposed to be The Tennis Channel? There seems to be some other channels missing from the list, what does that mean?

Todd finally felt that fire under his feet and decided to come up with this bullsh*t narrative about naivete. Again, as I always ask, why is he even in that job? It's obvious that he's incompetent. And the big dumb jerk attributed a Maya Angelou quote to Toni Morrison. NBC looks even dumber for hiring him in the first place.

Didn't I once mention how injury-prone she was/is? I also mentioned that I believed it would impact her character as she ages, as she is still only a teenager. She's having physical problems that I would associate with players who have been in the grind of the Tour for a much longer period of years. It reminds me of Ana Konjuh unfortunately.

By the way, IMDB streaming seems to have taken off, with new titles being added every few weeks. And because it's owned by Amazon, you best believe Amazon places ads for their various products and services before and during running times for these shows. Like I said, if P&G had any sense...

For many years, whenever anyone asked Eddie Murphy about Bill Cosby he demurred, out of a sense of obligation until he remembered how critical Cosby had always been of Murphy in his career. If anyone saw that interview Eddie Murphy did with Jerry Seinfeld on his Netflix show Comedians In Cars... it's very clear as to why Murphy no longer felt that sense of obligation, being that Cosby never felt a sense of obligation toward him or any other comedians. Turnabout is fair play. Cosby neglects to see how he's mocked, berated and joked about anyone that didn't fit his ideal of how an entertainer should act or comport him/herself. He was an absolute control freak with Lisa Bonet and he practically made a second career out of chiding low-income black people during his speaking engagements, while holding himself to exception based on fraudulent criteria. Now, he wants to be all 'power to the people' with the same communities he once mocked and derided? Oh puh-lease, Bill.

That's really fascinating, it seems like a really good idea and I can imagine other production companies being interested in this. The idea of advertisements being tailored can sound somewhat invasive but years ago, early Hulu used to do interactive commercials, and I imagine individually curated ads will be the next step. I mention this because although Disney's streaming service has been an unmitigated success, the jury is still out on Apple+ and there will come a time very soon where the amount of people willing to subscribe to paid streaming services will reach a saturation point and ad-sponsored streaming will be seen as an attractive option, especially for shows that are not first-time run shows. Also, right now, ads geared toward streaming command less revenue than those aired on broadcast television (thus, it's cheaper to run an ad via online streaming than broadcast therefore the profits from it are less) but as viewing habits continue to change and ratings decline for broadcast and streaming numbers ascend, I expect that the costs of running an ad online will climb and eventually reach parity with those aired on broadcast television, increasing the value of running ads via streaming.

At least he seems to have a bit of self-awareness because, the thing is, he knows they were shitty movies. At least in interviews that I've seen lately. His attitude these days seems to be that he's not denying it and what's done is done, lol, so why regret it?

I've only seen a handful of episodes over the last, what five years? And last night's show was one of the better paced shows (yes, it's true) and at the very least, this episode overall didn't drag like it normally has whenever I've watched it over the years. I agree that Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood (and I knew that gentrification would be included but it was still funny), The Family Christmas Toast sketch were the funniest overall. I also think the Gumby riff was pretty funny, especially when Gumby bitterly complained that he rescued the show from the gutter and didn't get thanks and then proceeded to say "Shame on you, Lorne Michaels! Shame on you!", I felt some subtext there. I know a lot of people really liked the final sketch about global warming hitting the North Pole. It got some chuckles from me, especially the reference to the real life incident of the man who helped rescue those young women in Cleveland. I don't understand why they had Maya Rudolph with a martini glass but the bit with Kamala Harris quoting Lizzo with saying she was taking her fine aS$ self out of the presidential race and how America missed out and could've had a "bad b*tch" made me laugh. Eddie Murphy slipped and said sh*t but I don't know if people caught that Maya Rudolph actually said what sounded like the F word, as in 'that's f*cked up' or something to that extent. I don't think that was in the script and people had various interpretations on what it meant but it was pretty obvious that Rudolph ad-libbed that part. Someone said the humor was milder (but still funny) than what it would've been when Murphy was in the cast in the '80s and I tend to agree. Then again, the humor on this show was a lot sharper in the 80s overall, I think. I bet it's been forever since SNL could be described as 'appointment viewing'. Last night was definitely one of those moments. I just had a thought that the only thing that would've boosted that row of comedians during the opening monologue even more would've been to have Garrett Morris there. Hope he's alright wherever he is.

If the showrunner is going to give her perspective, then the NDA really should be dropped so that the actress will also be free to tell her perspective. Also, why is it not surprising that CBS is the parent company? What a mess. Again. I haven't seen enough of this series to judge whether the showrunner avoids being the chauvinist and misogynist that she claims not to be. She is right however, to assert that women indeed can be misogynist and exhibit chauvinistic tendencies that bend toward favoring male chauvinism. From what I read of the character Alison's arc and who seems to take on the 'blame' for the character's end though, I found somewhat disturbing but again, I haven't seen the entire series so perhaps I'm jumping to a judgement, a bit? As a writer myself, I don't want to make assumptions without watching or at least reading the script.

Is this a surprise to anyone though?

I posted this article in the Media/Journalism thread but I decided to post here too because 1.) I really think it's a fascinating article and 2.) I think this is something that web based soaps and even soaps that would think about reboots or revivals should think about as a possibility, especially as it really seems like a high-tech digital twist on an aspect of the early days of television soaps-- the product placement. Could you imagine if the PP/TOLN soaps would have been able to do this? Procter & Gamble could easily do this if they were able to get their collective heads out of their as$es and to a reboot of As The World Turns and/or Guiding Light. These individual accounts of people victimized by criminals that Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has just chosen to pardon are enraging. Reading about the mother of a girl who had been sexually assaulted when she was 9, collapsing to the floor upon hearing the news that the perpetrator had just left prison on a pardon is making the anger boil within me. Awful.

Oh my! Was that intentional? Did they rehearse that? I know that Jimmy Walker's tomfoolery over the years would cause many to slam a door in his face if given the opportunity.

I missed both shows. This was the only thing I saw and honestly, I'm fine with that.
