  1. Unless he's from Russia, I'm not sure...
  2. To the surprise of no one, even the Trump picks who actually have a brain in their head have been stymied because he is fighting tooth and nail against anyone they want to hire who doesn't toe the line. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/02/trump-cabinet-hiring-clash-235250
  3. Given the CW's track record with gay characters, I wouldn't expect much.
  4. By this time Nina was definitely a supporting character. She'd mostly react about Tricia and Ryan. By the time of the book story with Tomas and the unflattering haircut I'd started to phase out of watching. Brett Hadley still had credits as of 2015. It was never the literal ending of the Carl return story that bothered me as much as the way it was written it just felt dropped. I was never a big fan of Gareis but she was better in these years, before she became Donna Duck.
  5. http://www.vulture.com/2017/01/schneider-one-day-at-a-time-is-better-than-the-old-one.html Sigh... I never thought Schneider "looked" like a child molester because of his mustache, and I would assume most viewers didn't. I also thought, for whatever faults the original ODAAT had, they never made themselves into the Schneider Show, and actually worked to avoid the most obvious cliches, like pairing him off with Ann. I wasn't even really that much of a fan of the character, and the new Schneider is alright (although he's a tad one-dimensional and other characters work better in the foil role, like Ann's doctor boss), but it's a shame hipper-than-thou critics always need to remind us of the inferiority of old shows so we'll remember how precious and discerning they are.
  6. Thanks for taking all the time to type that out. It's a good read. Very detailed. I wonder if they kept watching to the end.

  8. One of Roya Megnot's episodes when she briefly returned as Ava while Lisa Peluso had to take a break. You have to love that she has a fantasy scene with the second actor to play Alex, when she's the first Ava filling in for the second. The power of soaps...
  9. Ilene Kristen on Loving.
  10. Thanks. This is a real gift - not only is Ilene Kristen in this, but it's one of Roya Megnot's episodes when she briefly returned as Ava while Lisa Peluso had to take a break. You have to love that she has a fantasy scene with the second actor to play Alex, when she's the first Ava filling in for the second. The power of soaps... Oh and look - therapy sessions on soaps, and ones that are actually productive. How rare. Trisha's style here is very "rich lady tries to show she's one of the normal people." It looks like something Shelley Long would have worn in Troop Beverly Hills for a PTA meeting...
  11. Hell, I'd take him over most of the male cast. Unwashed and unpleasant.
  12. Joni Ernst - yet another media darling. It's funny how many of those prove to be worthless, isn't it?
  13. Caulfield never could act but he was hot enough at this point... (the closeup of his bicep cracks me up)
  14. I wasn't going to talk about that person anymore but this post really sums it all up so well: http://newwavefeminism.tumblr.com/post/157485812892/so-for-the-longest-time-black-feminists-and
  15. It is. There is one part that confused me - I couldn't figure out if the woman Alice calls was Sharon and she was lying about Cassie because she didn't want her to be at risk. I could swear it was SC's voice...
  16. That story had some of Heather Tom's best performances. 1998 was one of the times I watched the show daily because I thought the pacing and buildup deserved it, and I felt that coming back during the episode, especially during the parts like Alice and her mother. Of course now I know that this was a variation of Sheila and Molly, but at the time I didn't. Still, even now, it's a good watch. I thought the story with Carl Williams was pretty good too, at least until they just ended it.

  18. I hope some of you may enjoy this.
  19. It doesn't help that the person who wrote that episode (Carey Andrews) is one of their worst writers. I have a feeling they just see America as lawless. Last year they had "Mark Fowler Jr" leering at his 15-year old cousin, and when Shakil questioned him, he said that's just what they do in America. I do see what @TimWil is saying. I feel like I've been zeroing in on this story and maybe I should give it more time, maybe I should give the show a chance, maybe it's too easy to complain. I don't know. I just hate seeing Michelle this way...she's such a confused character at this point that I see people seriously suggest that either Jay or Tina will be her next love interest, and it could very well be true. Could you see Martin hooking up with Ben? (although I wouldn't say no) Yet that is where we are with her.
  20. If it's on her record to where it's costing her jobs, then she would have been charged. If she made it out of the country before his family found out, she likely would have been extradited - a pretty white boy taken advantage of by a female teacher (and with a name like Preston he comes from money)? It would have been a huge thing. Again I don't think the show bothered to check about age of consent in Florida until after those early episodes had already aired. The biggest problem with this Michelle is how weak and aimless she is. If you watch any old material with her you will see that just was not the case.
  21. So are any Syrian refugees being let into the US now or are they still barred? I'd say they wouldn't even want to come here now but I guess many would still need to come here, even as so much of America has all but spit on them.
  22. Michelle having a lengthy relationship with an underage student and then planning to abandon everyone in her life and run away with him was a bridge too far for me, especially when the only reason given was "bingo wings" and having a fat ass. Michelle may have been needy and impulsive, but this goes beyond that level of behavior. I also came away thinking the show had no idea of the laws in Florida, and just assumed the age of consent in Florida is the same as in the UK, which is very sloppy writing - I had expected better from the show than that. I think the only reason they had him that young is because they wanted a love triangle with Bex. The problem is that any time Michelle is in a scene with any boy around 16 years old, people are going to assume she's on the prowl. Was this the best writing choice? The show tried to add some sort of quasi-social content to it by having her say if she were a man, everyone would be thrilled, but how many male characters on this show near 50 years old are bedding down 16 year old girls? The story mostly just seems like another one of those old songs and dances about the sad pathetic middle-aged woman who has given up on everything, rather than anything the show takes seriously. Michelle was always more than that. Fowler women were always more than that. If the show needs a pathetic middle-aged woman who has given up, they already have Sharon for that. No. He seems to think he's playing a Russian.
  23. Yes. It was Jenny O'Hara (Thelma). I'm not sure about the daughter.
