  1. Was it every Friday they'd show them? Or every other Friday? I can't remember. I remember I'd watch the photos and name off who I liked and who I couldn't stand. And sometimes I'd notice how old some were compared to others (I think Maureen Garrett or Jerry ver Dorn had the same one for all the years they did the crawl). I always remember how gorgeous the shot of Vince Williams was. That shot represents so much of what made the GL of that era special.
  2. I am watching some, not every day but sometimes. The Maya and Jacob story is interesting, although I'm wary of them doing the topic justice. Still, this story is an example of one of the strengths of allowing child actors to stay in the roles as they get older, instead of recasting over and over. The pain that Jacob and Noah are going through has more weight because we've seen the actors for a decade now. Did you hear that ?
  3. I'm very happy for PAS. Now I just wish he was on a show I watch, as he is a superb actor. I read that he was on the FBI, which also had Dorothy Lyman. Whoever their casting director is has good taste.
  4. Thanks. I wish I could see this story. I've seen so little of Grandpa Hughes. What I've seen is a good contrast to Nancy, and he had a nice, warm scene with Tom as a boy. That's about it. I remember Marlena de la Croix calling him a bore in her SPW column and getting a negative response. Compared to the other P&G soaps ATWT seemed more willing to let their older widowed characters find love again.
  5. What was the relationship with Grandpa and Irma like? Did they explore the reactions of Nancy or Chris? Did Chris have a problem with his father being with another woman?
  6. She left in 1968. Rosemary did sort of recur from 1985-1988. I wonder if no more would have happened as Penny had been gone such a long time.
  7. A long thread on the voter fraud in NC-09. You will be shocked to learn the media has turned a blind eye.
  8. A Dorothy Lyman interview from a few months ago.
  9. Thanks for finding that channel. I'd never heard of it. Speaking of Harvey Korman, someone claiming to be one of his children left a comment on this upload of Eunice.
  10. I've been watching a lot of these the last few hours. This one is one of the more true to life, in how Mama can't stop going on and on about the same details, retelling them in different ways to suit her feeling at the time. I notice that some of the later sketches are more and more serious, and darker, leading up to the bleak and heartbreaking TV-movie. I know this was based on Carol's mother and grandmother but I wonder if as she got older she started using Eunice more and more to deal with some of her psychological baggage/attempts at healing. She must have felt hurt at the show and characters sort of being taken away from her with Mama's Family becoming popular in syndication.
  11. I think the song is meant to be written from a teenager's point of view (I don't know). I really thought it was a great song...until I saw the video.
  12. I just can't separate the winter holidays and ATWT/GL in my head, especially ATWT, as that was the soap which for me best showcased family and tradition. I miss it so much. I am glad they did at least have Bob give one last Thanksgiving speech in 2009.
  13. I think some of the soap magazines back then alluded the same.
  14. Thanks @Max. I went on a binge watching some of these a while back. There are others here, some that I had never seen before. My father, at the time, felt Clinton was a bad choice, and would have gone for Bush (he didn't vote that year). I think overall that Clinton was a better President, but even then I thought he was slippery, and that hasn't changed. I notice that 88 video has talk about how the Republicans were sure they'd win a Senate seat in New Jersey. Deja vu all over again. What a shocker that the media is talking about itself at the start of that first video. Always their favorite topic. They hate America but they love themselves.
  15. I've felt this way all season. They really do not write her as a couple with DJ. I don't have a problem with Geena, but I think if she was put into a role beyond just the same two lines it would help. I think he's alright, and I understand what you mean about him - I just don't entirely know how well he fits into the current show. I kind of wonder if he might have fit the idea of the show more when Roseanne was still there, as he would have been a contrast to her.
  16. A very respectful criticism of GHWB's legacy. I won't be surprised if there is backlash, although it's pretty sedate compared to some I've seen (especially those who are still, rightfully, deeply angry about the Reagan and Bush treatment of AIDS). https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/12/01/george-hw-bush-legacy-222730
  17. Was this the first of the let's-not-talk-about-this-oncamera-while-talking-about-this-oncamera saga for BH? I know they had a lot of rockiness and ugliness beforehand with Taylor and Russell but I always thought this whole thing was one of the moments/stories that really put the show on the wrong path.
  18. I found that clip on Youtube - I'd never seen it. I can't imagine a Republican going on MTV now (then again would anyone go on MTV now?). I think my first real memories of Bush are Dana Carvey's impression on SNL.
  19. RIP George HW Bush.
  20. Remember when Paul Ryan was pushed (for years and years) as the superbrain of the GOP? https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2018/11/29/paul-ryan-isnt-saying-there-was-voter-fraud-california/?utm_term=.4de51f48d4b9
  21. Thanks. That was a very interesting read. I wonder how Eva la Rue feels about being called a B-lister...
  22. The only role she has is to say she was in the military and is a Christian. There is nothing to play. I still don't think they are that much of a burden to the show. If we're talking about characters to write out, I'd probably go with Mark and Harris.
