  1. He has always creeped me the hell out.
  2. Didn't Jenny and her doctor husband go somewhere?
  3. Maybe it is Joe. It was just the way he was standing so close to Nikki, and how much he wanted to do more photos with her. Just seemed off to me. I kept hoping they would mention Stuart, as Liz was obviously alone and mostly just getting by (I wonder if that's why she went back to working for Katherine a bit after this - didn't she?). You'd think marriage to Stuart would have helped her. Was Eric friendly with Terry and that was one of the reasons he had issues with Peter? I can never remember.
  4. Phony Bill Maher trying to grandstand to Geraldo Rivera about how he looked up to him until recent years. He looked up to him after things like what Bette Midler claims he did to her? Given how slimy Maher is I guess I can't be surprised. http://deadline.com/2018/04/bill-maher-geraldo-rivera-hbo-real-time-i-looked-up-to-you-1202360153/
  5. "You're a powerful man...but so are we Abbotts." If only that had turned out to be the case, the show might not have gone to hell. The Amy and Tyrone scene when he told her who he was was such a beauty. Really enjoyed it. They had such good chemistry and Amy is such a special character. Bell was smart to contrast such sweet love amidst darker plots. I didn't know Betty Corday was involved with Y&R...
  6. Does anyone else think Amy Gibson (Alana) looks like Faye Resnick ( @Cat @DaytimeFan ) I had only ever seen Alana in photos or a clip of the whiteface reveal. She looks somewhat biracial to me here. I did laugh at Jazz thinking the other girl was Alana, mostly because they didn't mock the girl - she got the last reaction. I really like Jazz. And I am always glad to see more of Amy (the character). She brightens up the show. I wish Bill Bell had held onto these characters. Jack saying Dina isn't thinking clearly at the moment made me feel sad, even though that wasn't what Bell say intending obviously. I guess this was the start of the Victor/Jack feud. I was shocked to see the Foster home at this point. I wonder if this was the last time we ever saw it. Love love love getting to see more of Liz and Jill. Hard to believe it hadn't even been 5 years from the touching Jill/Liz scene with Bond Gideon to Brenda's Jill being so deluded and selfish she actually asked Liz to mortgage her home! I think this may be the earliest Miguel I've seen (was he in the 1984 episodes put up a few months ago?).
  7. Damn, Katherine's fantasy of hurting Jill was terrifying - only veering into complete lolcamp near the very end. The makeup people did a fantastic job on Katherine's scarred face (I guess they were at their peak with the Tyrone story) and Jeanne Cooper's screams and wails were just right. That reminds me more of the audio of the whole Suzanne story. It was weird seeing it on Y&R by 1985. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE that darkly lit shot of Katherine smoking with her holder (whatever you call those things). Just a gorgeous, atmospheric shot - says so much. I love the darker Katherine before she became so cleaned up and a it more dull. Bill Bell really did love using Katherine for some of his gothic and extreme writing impulses, didn't he? When Jazz asked Tyrone about what it was like being white I thought he might actually talk about things like white privilege. I guess that was way too on the nose for 1985. Eww Nikki has some kind of mullet/soccer mom style. Is that photographer supposed to be a pervert? He looks familiar to me. For once I actually like Ashley's look here, even if it looks like she should be on Kate & Allie.
  8. Thanks!!! What a weekend treat.
  9. Sheree is extremely lucky to have gotten another few years on the show, but it's sad to see her likely end the way she did the first time - petering out, just kind of pathetic. And this time around there wasn't even some of the sparks of entertainment and life like her feud with Marlo. I don't get the Eva hype. I never have - not even when she was on Top Model.
  10. I don't think they ever could have done much with Luke with or without the "Nuke" story because Van Hansis was a very limited actor. Even the story that some fans said would have been superior was basically just another variation of a violent straight man that Luke was in love with (if they had become a couple it would have just been another self-hating gay story and yet another Snyder love story built on abuse). I think that the initial story with Noah was genuinely praised because it truly was new for soaps to see kissing and an idea of passion between men. Everything after that was a copout. They clearly did not want to do more with Luke and Noah once the backlash hit, and the half-hearted nature of what they did was just a slog and a waste of time. Luke was mostly just interesting when he was written as a selfish brat, which they could have done something with (especially building up his relationship with Lucinda), but by that time the show had no idea what to do with any of their younger characters. Exactly. Maybe Goutman is right about ATWT never having a chance. He probably is. That doesn't take away from what a soulless vanity project his work was or what a piss-poor ending he gave the show. ATWT was dying for 15 years before that last episode. He took the job likely knowing the show was dying. If he was that bothered, he should have let someone who gave a damn let ATWT go out true to itself.
  11. "Sam's Club" Republican T-Paw is back! Chris Cilizza must be weeping tears of joy right now. http://www.startribune.com/tim-pawlenty-makes-it-official-he-s-running-for-governor-again/478905653/
  12. Thanks for sharing those with us. That last shot is really the eternal statement on Nikki and Victor, isn't it.
  13. I read that Faux News is against the pullout. I guess we know there are some topics even they hold no sway over. He'll probably try to dump the troops at the border. (does anyone else wonder if the whole "caravan" story was cooked up by the media with Trump?) Speaking of awful people:
  14. I knew I was different from a very young age. I didn't fully process what until I was in my teens. Sometimes it is an awareness from early on but it's much more complicated than that. I find people who say things like "I knew so and so was gay from kindergarten" to be incredibly patronizing and I think people who push and push for litmus tests at very young ages will create changes in society that they will regret (I feel the same way about "born this way" but that's a whole other can of worms).
  15. Good for her. I hope she enjoys it.
  16. Rebecca Dallet, the Democratic candidate for an open Wisconsin Supreme Court seat, won resoundingly, narrowing the far right majority to 4-3. She was pretty liberal, as she ran anti-Trump ads even though he won the state. The state has also seemingly voted down the plan Scott Walker was pushing to abolish the office of the treasurer. https://www.vox.com/2018/4/3/17195062/wisconsin-supreme-court-election-results https://www.thenation.com/article/incredible-now-scott-walker-wants-to-abolish-a-statewide-elected-office/ This likely won't do much to tamp down the rumors that Paul Ryan is going to retire this year.
  17. I probably liked Sonja's best... I know Kenya is polarizing but I was disappointed at how many people were defending and supporting Michael Rappaport for his attacks against her. He has a history of these comments about black women.
  18. Aren't we so glad that we have a President who is so good for our economy? http://fortune.com/2018/04/02/stock-market-nyse-worst-second-quarter-depression/
  19. And they'll vote for him again.
  20. If Macleod wanted to reunite Rhona and Paddy I imagine he would have, rather than a random writer talking him out of it. I imagine they will be reunited after the Chas pregnancy plot is over. I hope they aren't. Tracy's father was just on last week. I don't think he's ever added to the show, mostly because they only brought him in for the sake of one story (Tracy's poor me routine). They've never had any other role for him, outside of the aborted Megan/Charity triangle. I'm surprised Michael Praed has stayed but I guess he needs the money. To be honest I'm not even sure why Megan is still on the show. Oates ended the character with yet another of her short-sighted failures by killing off Robbie. Everything else has felt like biding time and not wanting to admit reality. The stuff with Jai cheating and her having his baby was interesting, but probably should have been her exit plot. If Gaynor Faye weren't a respected actress with a respected TV writer for a mother, I think she would be long gone. I loved Steph, she's one of my favorite characters, but if I were a new viewer I can't imagine having much of a reaction, because outside of her return I thought the whole thing was extremely flat, with no suggestion of what Alan actually meant to the canvas. Edna's funeral also lacked some heart, although there was a bit thanks to Sandy. Emmerdale lost its heart years ago and it now just comes in random fits and starts, depending on the actor or scriptwriter. There's no attempt to properly tell a story or give motivations, so nothing feels real. I think killing Emma off was the right decision. Taking Moses would have been a cloud hanging over the heads of the characters and if they weren't upset every minute of every day, people would have said it was unrealistic, as they do with Moira ever being happy while Adam was on the run. And I doubt Ross will be around much longer so if he'd just left to go find his son it would have been seen as a flat ending. The problem was having Moira as her killer and having Adam take the blame. It was done for a "moment" and in the long term was a very damaging idea. Meandering is a good word for the show, although I'd say it's the case no matter who is producing in recent years. Some hide it better than others. Kate Oates was good at getting publicity for herself and throwing things at the screen, but by her last year the seams were showing and the characters had become truly unlikeable, bar a select few who didn't get any airtime. There is a lack of focus or cohesion at the heart of Emmerdale that just eats away at any good left over from the last strong years of the show (2008, 2009). A part of that is that ITV likely doesn't have any interest in the show Emmerdale once was. You can see that with the treatment of the older characters. The last new older permanent character brought in was Declan's father, and they did nothing with him, in spite of being played by a beloved actor (Frank Kelly). Since then it's just been a very morbid waiting game where the show lets its elder cast retire or die out.
