Not much of a surprise for Texas. I've never thought the Democrats were going to have a big year this year so that doesn't surprise me either, but I can see the media, which will want to push a GOP comeback and give them some good news, push this heavily as a sign of their revival. I was more interested in some of the primary races that their awful governor, Abbott, was trying to meddle in. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/columnists/falkenberg/article/Abbott-settles-scores-but-the-GOP-could-pay-the-12724398.php https://www.texastribune.org/2018/03/06/texas-primary-state-house-incumbents/

After the last few months I have a feeling she's burned every last bridge she had left.

I grew to loathe Laura after they had Brooke adopt her - she became so sanctimonious and bitter. I remember when they even had her being bitter toward Santa Claus. It almost felt like a parody by that point. The best thing about her was her sweet chemistry with Shane McDermott's Scott - so of course he was "hunkified" with the bland Daniel Cosgrove. I grew to like Laura more again when she went back to her roots in late 1997 - unfortunately that was just done for the disgusting Jim storyline, and she was carted off. I could not stand anything about Bobby. That role was badly miscast. It's a shame they only cast Christian Campbell (who could have been perfect) years later, by which point they only had Bobby on as a filler.

The ratings weren't all that fantastic at this time, I believe, which is one of the reasons that FMB was let go early in 1996. Kelsey was a part of that group. Later in 1996 or in 1997, Soap Opera Weekly had some article which had someone at ABC Daytime saying the teens weren't really that popular and that viewers felt they had been forced into the show (which they were).

It sounds like he had more when people like Rob Porter (who didn't want the tariffs) were around. I guess he really does just care unless someone he's chummy with is saying the words. That's very very dangerous.

So the extreme right will have even more sway in the White House - and the tariffs will be even more likely to be implemented. Will Republicans in Congress act? Good luck with that. The new implementer of Title X funding: https://www.politico.com/story/2018/03/06/abstinence-advocate-family-planning-dollars-389453 @marceline was 2004-2007 Bob Taft or was it someone else? I assume this woman is very bad news...

I know he was a big Housewives fan. He is always a bit fake to me, although he has his moments. Any time I watched Wendy's show in the last year or so it was always so tense. The audience would be on tenterhooks. I wonder if he will change that.

I've always thought Garner was so hollow - the epitome of the safe and focus-group tested "star" (likely one of the reasons none of her work was ever a tenth as successful as it was supposed to be). It was odd seeing her almost human. (I don't know if you saw it but I put a Twitter link to part of an old Hart to Hart comic strip in the nightly thoughts thread)- Film Awards Thread
I think she's kind of funny, but the media push for her lately feels more and more like tokenism and is very patronizing. The various (white) columnists saying she should have hosted this year and must host next year - if she does, they will rip her to shreds.- Your daily (or nightly) thought
I never knew there was a Hart to Hart comic strip. (just one page) @Khan- Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
This isn't the first time they've been compared to Jack and Vera by the press. Pathetic.- The Joan Collins Fan Club
Joan to be on a Ryan Murphy production (good luck to her if so...)? https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2018/03/vanity-fair-oscar-party-report-2018 Joan Collins, the 84-year-old author, had an intimate conversation with Ryan Murphy while a constellation of his FX stars circled around him: Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, and Evan Peters. Paulson’s girlfriend, Holland Taylor, took a breather to expertly re-apply her lipliner, sans mirror, while Emily Ratajkowski locked lips with new husband Sebastian Bear-McClard.- One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I only saw a few clips, but I thought it was regressive and made Dorian look bad (as it did when they revived the feud for no good reason in 1996). Was this the time she had Viki put in a car trunk or something, or was that another one?- One Life to Live Tribute Thread
She did get it back. I think when she lost it again she blamed Viki again and it led to another revival of their feud. Under Higley I think.- One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I remember that oft-used publicity photo of TLJ with Nancy Pinkerton - very hot, yes.- Film Awards Thread
What a wonderful, wonderful speech from Frances McDormand. One of the most powerful I've ever seen on the Oscars.- Film Awards Thread
It's very sweet that he actually thinks most of the people who vote care about what's in the movie (or even watch the movie) or that those who do care would magically change their mind over one clip out of an entire film. I guess if it makes him feel better. (I've always liked Laurie Metcalf but I didn't think she was that great in the clip, to be honest - she's been giving that performance for many many years) Anyway, I generally always find Jane Fonda tense to watch as herself, so maybe it's just me, but what an oddly tense atmosphere there was in the room when she and Helen Mirren were presenting (and it was also a bit odd to see Helen talking about views and society changing given some of her past comments). Gary Oldman....zzz. The only interesting thing about that is getting to see the social justice warriors who yet again put too much importance on an archaic awards ceremony to validate them seething over him winning and Sam Rockwell winning. If Frances Macdormand wins I imagine Twitter and tumblr will open a vein. And post the pictures in graphic detail.- Film Awards Thread
I'd forgotten she passed away. I loved her as Abuela.- Knots Landing
I always had a soft spot for Eric but I never thought Steve Shaw (RIP) was much of an actor. Pat Peterson got very hot by this point and was a decent enough actor, but I can see why the show decided to focus elsewhere, and especially why Linda was moved elsewhere. Sibling triangles are always more interesting on paper than in execution. That season had a lot of stories that likely seemed better on paper, especially Harold and Olivia (which mostly felt like they still had the actors under contract and needed to pad out episodes - for me Olivia lost all purpose as a character when they made her relationship with Abby so one-note in Abby's last seasons), and the trashy Danny saga. He was just grafted onto the canvas, and it showed. I did think the season was watchable, which I can't say about seasons 13 and 14.- Film Awards Thread
I've never seen I Tonya and I doubt I ever will but I can see where it just comes off as camp. I'm so happy for Allison though because I loved her on GL and look where she is now. And she looked amazing. Between that and Sam Rockwell (now I can feel less ashamed about perving over him for most of the early '00s) I'm pleased.- Film Awards Thread

I guess his involvement with the Kardashians has brought them a lot of money (the network). He has always been a negative presence oncamera.- Film Awards Thread
