  1. Did The Atlantic get new owners in the last year or two? They seem to have more and more hard right voices.
  2. If they'd had a nuanced rivalry then I could have enjoyed it but they just focused on the most histrionic stuff (like blaming her for Chris dying), likely because they didn't want the Dingles to look bad. To me the feud with Robert and having Liv sent to youth offenders did a lot of damage to the character, and they seemed to spend most of their time after that backpedaling.
  3. The set has looked that way since, I think, the Wyldes or the Maceys moved in. I assume it's budget cuts. It's another reason I wish they would just get rid of Home Farm. Joe wasn't a bad character, and I think he could have become more if Ned Porteous hadn't left, but they clearly never knew what to do with him.
  4. When did you stop watching? Emmerdale hasn't really been the same since about 2009. The quality ebbs and flows. Mostly ebbs.
  5. I think Kanye was hospitalized a year or two ago. Sometimes I wonder if this is the best he's going to let himself be.
  6. I remember this. Hilarious.
  7. Thanks. There are a lot of good photos on there with GL alum. I miss GL so much.
  8. Which races are big in the Midwest? I guess Indiana Senate, and some House races, or Iowa governor?
  9. Oh that economy. I hope people will have the sense to vote in a check for Trump before it's too late. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/10/a-rare-and-worrisome-thing-happened-during-wednesdays-stock-market-slaughter-bonds-fell-too.html https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/10/investing/stock-market-today-techs-falling/index.html
  10. I think if I'd been watching back then I would share your reaction more. As it is what happened with Deena and Billy bothers me more than just about anything on Emmerdale. Anyway, at least this is happy (not the right word) news for Leah Bracknell. http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emmerdale/news/a868144/emmerdale-leah-bracknell-cancer-thriver-terminal-diagnosis/
  11. You're right about the plot holes. I figured, if I'm being generous, Graham and Kim told him about Charity to give him a reason to want to buy Home Farm. I agree Kim > Debbie, although honestly I think Debbie has always been more popular than people think she is. If they did use Kim to try to wave away Debbie's acid attack plot then that is pretty sad (I figure the Sarah heart saga is used more for that purpose). I also wonder how much of this was rushed around if the guy who plays Joe decided to leave unexpectedly.
  12. I understand what you mean. I guess, for me, just her putting him in a boarding school and their losing contact is less of a destruction than something I could have seen happening, especially given her mental health. If they'd had him saying that she had disowned him and said he was a loser like his father, and so on, it would have bothered me. I can see why people are unhappy though.
  13. I didn't think it was a big leap from the Zoe of her last 5-6 years on the show. She was much colder. She'd had two mental breakdowns and in her last year on the show tried to kill someone and then blew up Home Farm. She also had never been that close to Joe. I can believe that Jean would have been her main priority. The problem is we aren't actually seeing Zoe to explain her actions, and the writing is vague and half-hearted, so she looks worse.
  14. I don't think Kerry or Biden will get the nomination. Kerry in particular will probably languish far back in the pack. Biden missed his chance in 2016. I think there are younger and more vital Democrats but the problem is there are so many, it will be a messy primary. The irony with Obama is that he was in many ways very traditional. He only became more assertive because he was viciously attacked and degraded for years on end. I do think we need someone with experience, but I think we also need someone who is willing to roll the dice and take drastic actions. Without them we're going to crash hard - if we aren't already anyway. Anyway, in more Republicans-showing-what-women-mean-to-them news:
  15. CNN is so embarrassing. They know that isn't going to happen, they just want attention.
  16. I thought she was their big hope. Is something coming in our joke of a foreign policy that would destroy her future political career, so she's leaving before it happens?
  17. I finally finished the premiere. Jodie Whittaker found her stride toward the end of the episode, when she calmed the Smith/Tennant impersonation and the OTT line readings. I hope we will see the more low-key performances in future. I liked the companions, especially Ryan, who felt like someone I'd never seen before as a companion. Yaz was fine - she reminded me more of a Torchwood character (minus the sex and being horribly murdered). I'm sure we'll learn more about her. I think Bradley Walsh is a good actor overall and has a warm screen presence, but I could see him "acting" a bit too much. I hope he'll settle down. I thought the woman who played Grace was very good and I wish she could have joined as well. The plot was the usual Chibnall - flat and needlessly choppy and confusing (why did we get nothing of the guy who was being hunted after the Doctor dressed him down; what exactly was Grace even doing, as she just seemed to have a death wish; did the bad guy die or did he just disappear, and is the threat even over...??). The ratings were great, and while they will of course fall, at least this shows a lot of people are still drawn to the program.
  18. One of his fellow bigots on the council claimed he just said this because someone in DC threw a coat hanger at him. I find that hilarious.
  19. Yes. I enjoy old commercials partly for that reason.
  20. What a wonderful mother this is. All to get liked in a sexist hashtag.
  21. I'm glad he isn't around to see what the state's become, honestly.
  22. Oh she was part of their gerrymandering plan. North Carolina Republicans are scum through and through. Hateful, awful people.
