  1. She's deluded. I saw that people were saying he was going to be supportive of things like marriage equality, which is insane if she actually believes this is true - he will be an extremist right down the line, as most of the Bushies that got packed onto the courts were. He calls birth control "abortion pills" - what more needs to be said? This is just like when she voted to repeal the ACA while claiming she only did so if they did what she wanted. They didn't. He won't either. She is one of those Republicans who cares about her legacy, and deep down she knows she just destroyed it, for all of history. When those far right rulings start pouring in (which they will), Maine will blame her. I just hope Manchin won't mess that up. I'm already seeing people say this proves Democrats are no better than Republicans.
  2. If Manchin does vote to confirm I won't be surprised if he switches parties. This latest quavering speech from Collins makes me think she knows she is done in 2020. The lecture circuit pays and they support Kavanaugh, presumably, as all of DC does.
  3. I'm not a big fan of the America = Nazi Germany stuff, mostly because I think it needlessly distracts from present-day perils for something that has become so meaningless through overuse over the last few decades, but at least these debates are now starting to point out more of McConnell's role in the breakdown: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/10/5/17940610/trump-hitler-history-historian
  4. She's just a phony. No wonder Olympia Snowe didn't like her (allegedly). She's gotten by with a lot in Maine because Maine is somewhat conservative and because she's seen as above politics, but I don't think she will have the same easy time now.
  5. There are a number of episodes and clips on Youtube with Rick.
  6. I see Jason in there. I'm going to spare you my long post about how Jason was an OLTL character through and through and how he should have been a much bigger presence than he was.
  7. I felt like we were getting close to that point with W, especially after he was reelected, and we got him bragging about having a mandate. This led into Terri Schiavo, to plans to gut Social Security, etc. It's just that a lot of terrible things happened for the GOP in 2005-2006 and they lost their footing with the public. I don't think that will happen now, so I do worry it's just going to get more and more extreme once the Republicans keep control of Congress this November, with nothing in place to stop it.
  8. Stevens is one of the justice they hated (along with Souter) because they saw him as a turncoat. As for why McConnell has pushed this confirmation so much, I think he sees it as a power grab - if they can do this then they will prove nothing can stop them, it will demoralize many on the left (as many on the left will blame Democrats and the FBI and the CIA and go into "why bother" mode, as they are already doing). Beyond that, this guy is also beloved by Bushies, who still have a lot of sway in DC. W personally called and lobbied to Jeff Flake.
  9. Richard Shoberg (probably closer to around the time he was on Somerset) in the PSA at the end of this.
  10. https://www.wsj.com/articles/i-am-an-independent-impartial-judge-1538695822 PR op-ed. Or as I call it: He has finished off the last shreds of respect anyone had for the SCOTUS.
  11. A 2011 documentary about the well-publicized 2009 incident where a woman drove up the wrong side of the road, killing herself, her nieces, daughter, and the three passengers in the other car. (this has some graphic crime scene photos)
  12. The media wants Republicans to win. It's easier and safer for them - it's a comfort blanket. They have declining influence but still too much. The far right always turns out the vote. I think in my lifetime as a voter they have only stayed home, sort of, once or twice, at most. This is one of the reasons I have assumed all along Republicans will keep Congress. It's going to be a kick in the stomach, but at least it's one I will expect. I'm sure you have also noticed the sharp increase in articles telling us over and over that Democrats will spend this and that amount of time investigating Trump if they win. This is a way to remind voters that Democrats have an agenda and don't care about the country.
  13. When I see the Kavanaugh stories on Twitter I keep seeing tweets from that Jedidiah woman who was canned from The View, who is a hardcore far right truth-teller now that she has a book to sell. I wonder if anyone told her that none of the clout she's chasing is ever going to stop for her - there are a million other interchangeable Fox News and lecture circuit ladies who already fill that slot.
  14. There are some decent elements (like Bianca's story, among others). Part of it is my Greenlee block. I associate her with the worst of AMC.
  15. There were some elements of that run I did really enjoy - much more than the supposed return to form afterward that actually made me quit watching the show - but it was ruined by McTavish veering wildly out of control, as per usual, with things like the Kit Fisher story (I almost typed Kit Fister, which would be another type of story entirely) and Adam tricking Liza into being impregnated with his sperm.
  16. I assume Sasse is voting yes and this is just clickbait.
  17. I read that Trump's favorite Faux and Friends show was chiding him about the way he spoke about Ford at his last rally, so I wonder if that may have buried this in the Senate even further.
  18. If this goes on much longer I think they will pause and then use this as a GOTV tool to motivate extremists and bigots and woman-haters. It's probably what their best move would have been all along.
  19. The best part to me was the song. It's terrific. I will say going from reminders of that era to my phone being corrupted by you know who was incredibly depressing synergy.
  20. The lovely Aisha Tyler was back on The Talk today and I saw the first minute or two, where they plugged the People cover story/interview with John, Laurie and Sara. They then cut to Sara and it really would break your heart - she looked so crushed inside. This year has turned into such a hell for her I don't know how she copes.
  21. I feel so old seeing this horrible, horrible era already pushed into movies. W did not deserve to have Sam Rockwell playing him. and I feel a bit ashamed for finding him hot even in that role...
  22. That doesn't really seem like Viki, but it was entertaining enough (and at least it gave Erika something to do). Who was the killer anyway?
  23. Exactly. Remember how the Tea Party were so new and different from your usual Republicans? And then they turned out to be the same (only even more insane)? It's just the same rotting fruitcake with different, ever-cheaper wrapping paper.
