EastEnders: Discussion Thread
He sounds like he truly does love her and wants to help her as best he can. The part where he explained to the producers, while still respecting her privacy, why she wanted to be killed off as Peggy, is just one example. Barbara always had a lot of respect for Eastenders and for its fans. That she kept this for as long as she did and did brilliant work (some of her best, as he says) in this period of her life is a testament to her work ethic and talent. I wish they hadn't had to splash the recent photo of her and her husband on their front page, as you can see she's not really there. I don't think people with Alzheimer's should be hidden, it just feels exploitative to me in this instance. But that's The Sun for you, and I hope the money will help go to making Barbara's last years safe and comfortable.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I think that was the biggest issue. Marland mostly just focused on one ingenue - he tried to recreate the Nola/Morgan dynamics with Meg/Lily but Lily then blew up into a bigger character than Morgan (maybe because Martha Byrne didn't bring the backstage issues that Kirsten Vigard did) while Meg was redirected. No woman could compete or contrast with Lily after that. I do think Pam worked as a B or C-character, there to fill out 5 days a week of 40 minutes of television. And I really liked Robin Morse's work in the role - she was a very intelligent actress. I think ATWT and GL had the most intelligent and natural acting of the soaps in these years and it made them stand out. I even liked her with Beau. Marland did try with her once she split with Dusty, but I think she was screwed by the transition period she was in. Brian Bloom, Jon Hensley and Martha Byrne all left. Marland was focusing more on Andy, Paul, Lien, all characters younger than her. Duke was coming and was in her age range, but he was her cousin. Her biggest solo stories had been during the strike, with Beau. I didn't mind Beau, but he was an odd fit for ATWT anyway (although I do wonder how Marland's original plans for the character would have worked out). She had that brief story where Trucker from Loving went psycho (another story I wonder what the original plans were) and not much else. Is Dennis Cooney in this Pontiac ad about 4 minutes in?

Is this Christine Jones in the Volvo ad? At first I thought it was Rose Alaio but she reminds me a little more of Christine. Or is she too old to be Christine? It's about 3 minutes in.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I know some fans feel that anything LVP does regarding Dorit runs through her relationship with PK and that may be why she tempers herself. It's odd watching the Potomac women (I don't watch any of the shows consistently, I should point out) in comparison to the Beverly Hills women, because other than Erika there isn't anyone I actually dislike on BH these days (the others I mostly just sort of go 'eh' about or like but don't love), whereas there are a few women on Potomac I find incredibly irritating, but Potomac has such an energy and life to it that BH just doesn't and hasn't in a long time. You can see the strings and also see just how tired those involved are. I'd say the same is true for Atlanta, but HWs like Cynthia and Kandi are kind of good at giving a gloss to cover the fatigue.

The Politics Thread
Thanks for the articles on Japan. I was/am mostly confused as I've read about how dependent they've been on the US in various areas, even as Trump has mostly just played golf with Shinzo and not given him much support. At least it sounds like they're trying to move forward, I guess - I'm not sure what we're doing in the US.

It's likely ending next season.

Hasn't Japan been seen as in something of a decline in recent years?

Love Is a Many Splendored Thing
I never knew about that. That's a shame. It would have been a nice ending for both characters.

Love Is a Many Splendored Thing
Bibi Besch tells a story about a rape scene she filmed on the show.

Primetime Soaps
At this time SNL was in a real mess so they were probably more lenient. Bibi Besch interview about The Hamptons.

Knots Landing
Thanks for finding that @SoapDope as I watch that channel but didn't see this one. Constance is so wonderful - how rare to see her interviewed. I wonder if Constance was joking about calling Ciji Laura's "possible lover" or if the show really did want people to see them as being that way. I wonder if viewers ever thought they were? To me that was just Richard being paranoid, although Constance and Lisa Hartman had a lot of chemistry (Lisa generally did not with most of the men on the show). This doesn't mention Knots but it's a Millie Perkins interview from around the time she was first on the show.

I'd still say W was nearly as bad if not worse, although that will likely change soon enough. It's just he had a less awful personality.

I wasn't trying to say that only men of one political persuasion are violent. I was just saying I no longer have any faith or ability to trust most media reporting, especially after the insanity against Obama and the Clintons.

I have to admit when I first read stories like these about liberal figures a part of me wonders if its a setup, but this was too detailed to ever give that impression. The duality of his actions - alleged actions I should say - with what he would say and do for the public is breathtaking. It was a very well-written piece. And deeply disturbing. I saw some meme with Ronan Farrow as Thanos, which probably is how some people feel at the moment... (not to take away from Jane Mayer)

Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread
@amybrickwallace I don't know if you're still in touch with Ann Williams' family but I think this is her in the Leggs commercial about 3 minutes into this video, if you think they'd want to see it. I'm also going to post a link to a site that stretches the video to the proper aspect ratio. http://www.stretch.site/?videoUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2F0qwYt0p1k1I&scaleFactor=0.747&zoomFactor=1.000

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I have to admit I like Liv, mostly because Isobel Steele is such a good actress, she makes me care. The Debbie/Joe stuff is crap. Aaron is such an inert character these days I just have no real reaction to him. I was glad to at least see him get called out, although Liv should have said more about Robert too. You can tell which half of Robron the outgoing producer preferred.

I don't think ATWT was coming back regardless of the ending, but I see your point. I just wish it had felt less cheap and empty. I will always be disappointed we got so few returns.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I never thought of Bob and Lisa that way. Lisa did love Bob but I felt like Bob had moved on, although he obviously had a lot of respect/fondness for her (even if she could still drive him crazy). The main issue with Jack and Carly I think was that the show trashed Carly's character with every breakup.

I think she got an SOD tribute. Not sure about an Emmy.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
It's a bit odd but a lot of the time unless the actor is going on a leave that doesn't happen very often on UK soaps.
