  1. And when they let poor Barbara Rodell go in 1980 it was on her birthday. They really were awful at ATWT in the early '80s... Wow. I didn't know that.
  2. Didn't they also kind of have Ann as quasi-psycho and causing problems for Paul and Ellen?
  3. I didn't know that. I didn't even know their parents were on the show.
  4. That sounds so embarrassing, especially since Texas didn't even given him anything to do. Judith's stories on AMC always sound a bit draining to me, but I do wish they were available, especially the story about Ann's baby.
  5. I'm glad you got to see it. I know you probably saw her work on AW (I wish I could see more of it outside of that one episode). She always seems like such an intelligent actress to me. And this is such a classy promo, without trying to be cute, the way the '80s crossover actor promos were. You can see how much respect they had for the intelligence of viewers back then. The material around this seems to be August or early September 1971 - I'm not sure when she joined AMC.
  6. This is such a rare, rare promo - it was on Rick Thomas' channel, in a longer package. He said you could clip as long as you post a link to his original video, so I did. I hope you guys enjoy it.
  7. Wasn't there one of the failed pairings where he and Stuart didn't get along?
  8. @vetsoapfan I can't remember if you mentioned this interview before or not but I was looking at a Lynne Adams interview from not long after she left GL for good. The article described her first Leslie run as somewhat of a "villain" - would you agree with that? Adams went on to talk about how much the character had changed under Barbara Rodell and how when she returned she was playing, in so many words, a boring housewife, which is why she decided to leave again. She was especially critical of dialogue Hope and Leslie had about Hope thinking about pre-marital sex, as she felt Leslie was talking in an absurd way. If you haven't seen that one I'll try to find it and scan it.
  9. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Eric in Montreal, who uploaded it, used to be a regular poster here - always very intelligent and insightful. I think it may have been on Soapnet before but I hadn't seen it in ages. I really do feel so impressed with Agnes Nixon as a writer when I watch this material - it all feels natural, even with potentially absurd elements. And I just love Lillian Hayman and Doris Belack together. You can believe they are longtime friends.
  10. I love the Viki and Gabrielle scene in that one - Viki just grinding her down to nothing. It was also nice to see the show still remembered the Jon and Dorian relationship by this point. I wasn't sure if they did.
  11. Thanks. Was she really Travis' sister or was that all a scam from Helene? Helene is so hammy...the Rhoda fortune teller garb is a look though...
  12. Renata was killed in a fire, wasn't she, the night of her wedding to David? Was that from Helene's hand? This is all so Dark Shadows, but it really works - at least these clips do. I wonder how SFT fans felt though. Anita Keal is luminous. At first I was disappointed at not seeing more of Sherry, but Anita took me away. She looks a lot like the woman who played the wife on Allo Allo.
  13. I think most here were probably heavily involved in politics long before I was - even now I'm not as involved as many people. I think it was around 2002 or 2003 that I started following politics more, as I just hated the debate over Iraq and how people were being blacklisted for even questioning the need to go to war. And the anti-gay stuff kicked up in 2003, with so many states as well as the government, mostly for vote-getting reasons, pushing and passing laws that would ban any legal contracts between same-sex/unmarried couples. Meanwhile the media would repeatedly print articles like, "President Bush has many gay friends and doesn't hate anyone," just to make sure we remembered how statesmanlike he was even as he endorsed hate. There were also ads against Democrats back then that would literally put them on the screen with Osama and Sadamm, and they would win. They'd be rewarded for this type of bile. I don't mean to overplay that era to try to make today sound better - it's not - but I do wonder what would have happened if the bottom hadn't fallen out for Bush, Rove and the GOP in 2005 and 2006. (that led to the GOP we have now, so if anything similar happens this year I dread to think what GOP we'll get next)
  14. Much of that criticism ramped up through the propaganda surrounding the Iraq War and the vicious smearing of Democrats. There was surgical precision of these types of games from Karl Rove. Then the anti-equality legislation and the anti-abortion legislation started. I remember one of the big controversies surrounding W and Hitler was when Move On had ads comparing them (I think someone submitted the ads for a contest). There's one on Youtube but it's on a far right channel.
  15. On an international level I don't think our reputation will ever recover (as it never recovered after the Iraq fiasco). Many Americans, and many in the press, will be happy to put all of these things on Trump. If another Republican replaces Trump, many in the media will bend over backwards to remind us he isn't like Trump and he's a true conservative/Republican, etc. Many people have to believe that Trump is an outlier and is not a representation of things that have built in this country, and around the world, for years. It's easier to just focus on Trump as the same "just like Hitler" posts pop up (as they did for W, who is now seen as a dignified and noble man by many), or say things like, "Where is the UN to save us," even though the UN can't even save itself.
  16. https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/behind-the-scenes-of-harvey-weinsteins-impending-arrest I saw that People had an article on their "source" from Harvey Weinstein's camp. That magazine really has gone down the shitter. The most ludicrous bit was when they said "He still has his sense of humor." I'm so glad to know that. How incredible.
  17. I read about that earlier. I have a feeling people will say, "That's why they shouldn't come here!" but it's so much more, and so terrifying to think of is happening to these kids.

  19. I love Catherine Coulson and the Log Lady but that Kickstarter is just too high. I hope it works out for them though. Anyway, this is great: Today is Dana Ashbrook's birthday, so I have a reason to post this again:
  20. So shocking. So, so shocking. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/05/24/trump-calls-off-historic-meeting-with-kim-jong-un-607126 The only parts of this that do anything but terrify me are my amusement that the NK spokeswoman called Pence a "dummy" and seeing the people on the right who went on and on about how his tough guy diplomacy was getting us results unlike appeaser Obama now having to chew on their cheeks.
  21. Meredith Phillips, who was the second Bachelorette, has revealed she was drugged and sexually assaulted by a masseuse during filming of her season. http://www.vulture.com/2018/05/bachelorette-meredith-phillips-claims-she-was-drugged-on-set.html
  22. I have too, to be honest (I thought maybe it was because of the sleazy movies he's starred in). The thing with Jason is that he's a golden child in the industry - he was headlining major sitcoms when he was still in his early teens, and he also got a heavy push on "Valerie's Family" - so much so that Valerie Harper got pushed right out the door. I'd be lying if I said I was a huge fan of Arrested Development, but the times I've watched have been because of Jessica Walter. I've been a fan of her work since she was on Knots Landing. She was luminous. If she, at her age and with her experience, is treated this way by male cast members, it tells you just how hard life is for women in Hollywood.
  23. Blaming Trump for the reactions of the NFL owners, as that tweet does, mostly gives them a free pass for their own greed and cowardice.
  24. Thank you for finding that. What a wonder to get to see more of Sherry - luminous as ever.
