Viewers are going to wonder why Salem stopped pumping in gay men who want to rape straight men. That story was also hated by fans, which reminds you how much Ron and his clique respect viewers.

General Hospital: May 2023 Discussion Thread
On paper, I think Sonny/Emily was kind of an interesting idea. Jason had turned a blind eye to Sonny's selfishness and monstrous behavior for years, only to see this eventually point Sonny in the direction of his sister, one of the very few people Jason cared about. Sonny also had a history of exploiting younger women and abuse victims through his seedy club days, even if he was not intentionally exploiting Emily's vulnerability. (if you're asking what about Emily's integrity as a character, I'd say she never really had any in the first place) The show just wasn't willing to be that honest about what a predator and emotional parasite Sonny is and to do any real work on breaking down the Sonny/Jason relationship, which by that point was well past any point of interest anyway. (I remember some fans used to say Jason and Sonny were the characters truly in love, for years...I never saw it, and I'm someone who enjoys watching homoerotic male "friendships" that get away from the people who make them)

The first - many leftists rallied around Teixeira and called him a hero, like that loathsome baby talking grifter Krystal Ball. They don't even bother at this point to hide how much they hate us.

GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
These were the dying days of the big budgets, and Gloria put every dollar onscreen here. I'm impressed at the way they managed to make a soap location feel cavernous and suffocating all at once the way the auditorium does. The disorientation and mania of the way that Brock and Bobbie fighting and Terri racing to get help draws you in in a way attempts at these types of stories in later years rarely did. I knew that Monty excelled at this type of presentation in the GH of the late '70s, but hadn't expected to see it in 1985. And Ginny packing heat contrasted with the chilling and oh-so-'80s jumbo screen concerned conservative mom speechifying. The random cut to Frisco serenading Felicia (probably the type of material many associate this era with) makes it even more unnerving.

The song is pretty (although the closing theme is nicer), but I can't believe that's not Luther. I know this was early in his more mainstream career, but that soundalike is still jarring. Deborah Adair left Y&R for this? The credits are rough. It's like if the Love Boat cast starred in a Bond film made by the producers of the Days of the Week.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Seems to be up again now. I'd forgotten about all those famiy ties. Finn seems to have had a lot of problems in recent years. My thoughts go to her.- Edge of Night (EON) (No spoilers please)
I find her work acceptable enough, but I can also see that they had to generally write the character in a very limited way in order to help her. They may have already been going that route with Nicole even when Maeve was in the part, I have no idea, but Maeve was so chic and brought a chilly vibe to the part which helped her stand out.- Knots Landing
Yes, the idea of the story over Meg's fate was very sound. The execution, not so much.- 2023 Writers + Actors Strike Thread
@Vee They include a clip from the GH story. I didn't have the stomach to watch it but other fans may remember it more. If that's the best example they could come up with for the brilliance of daytime writers that scabs can't replicate, they aren't making much of a case to their readers. I am confused as to why there was no mention of Y&R firing most or all of its writers in preparation for a strike. Isn't that more relevant than giving Ron a long, sloppy one (presumably due to him being the only major writer who was willing to go on the record)? Still, at least they covered the topic.- Knots Landing
Constance's interview was riddled with horrible technical errors for the first 20 minutes but otherwise was worth watching, mostly just for her great vivacity. She didn't share that much about her time at Knots, beyond some of the obvious (she was shocked at being fired), but here are a few comments I remember: - she didn't have to audition for Laura, as she had worked with David Jacobs beforehand - the show was almost canceled in season 3...she was in the hospital post-delivery when David Jacobs called to tell her they'd been picked up again - she got a lot of inspiration for her performance in Laura's rape episode from a woman who worked in wardrobe and had been assaulted - Ava Gardner would call her up and looked out for her, and other people - she didn't ask for either of her pregnancies to be written in...she seemed to think Laura had Meg mostly just so viewers would be even more upset when Laura died - the main person she knew pre-Knots was Claudia Lonow - she was close to Julie Harris, to the point of Julie letting her stay in her house for a while after she gave birth to her first child as Julie was going to be away doing something for PBS - she recently had dinner with Bill Devane, John Pleshette, and their wives. - she also mentioned meeting up with Michele Lee recently (we saw that photo). She talked a little about the people she doesn't see anymore (like Lisa Hartman) but wishes she did. For the game show fans, she touched briefly on her appearances, telling a story about going to Spago one night and having some woman there pushing her chest out and reminding Constance that she had "paid for these" due to all the money she had won for her on a game show. For her talk about her personal life, when asked about grandchildren, she mentioned that her son (the one who played Jason) learned in recent years that he had had a daughter while in college. A reminder that those long lost kid stories do happen in real life, I suppose...- Knots Landing

@Vee Beneath the giggles I've often thought Anderson was elitist and sanctimonious (I never have gotten the image of him presenting from Katrina-ravaged New Orleans in perfectly pressed, crisp "everyday" attire out of my head) but he rarely puts it on display this much. It disgusts me, even if doesn't surprise me, that the media machine is still insisting we need to listen to the same voices that have gotten constant airtime for many years now. We know what they are telling us - they hate us, they want us gone, etc. And clearly so does CNN.- The Media/Journalism Thread
The media and their flacks have gone hogwild on the Feinstein story this week (I am guessing one reason is because they're seething that she finally did show back up, which doesn't fit the narrative).- GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
I liked Julian Stone, and didn't mind the pairing either, but I think it was where Bobbie started getting moved further and further out of a central role.- GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
Thanks. I watched those all through years ago but forgot they went far enough for early Bobbie. I think she may have called her "Mom" around the time she told her the truth, but I can't remember. The whole thing bothered me at the time because they threw Carly so much into just chasing Jason and never wanted to develop her relationships with the Spencers. This was also around the time the show decided to just focus on Bobbie having sex all the time with Jerry, then Roy - it never felt like the layered character Bobbie was all the way up to that point.- GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
The moment where she told Luke that Lucky was dead was extremely chilling. In the long run, that story, Luke lying about her child being dead, was a mistake, because the show had to quickly reconcile Luke and Bobbie, and the show had to get Bobbie and Carly involved with each other, but Guza didn't care about taking time with the proper beats. That one moment, however, I immediately thought of when remembering Bobbie's definitive moments. This has already been posted before, but I think it may be the earliest, or some of the earliest, existing available footage of Jackie as Bobbie. Her scene starts about 4 minutes in.- GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
I do get the feeling very few knew (reminds me of Elisabeth Sladen). I wasn't a big fan of any of the stories themselves but I'm tempted to look for the scenes where she lays into Laura for faking her death in early '97. GH may have been wrapping up, rather than bringing Bobbie's brother in, if not for the initial success of the Bobbie/Scotty/Laura triangle, along with other plots around then (especially the Heather saga, which powered the show for a number of years). L&L are just easier to write about, the "hook."- GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
Watching the Nurses' Ball tribute (not great, but better than it could have been, especially in clip selection), I wonder if they already knew. I guess they must have. I didn't notice how Jackie had to hug Laura Wright so tightly at the end due to emotions. Reminds me a bit of the incredibly poignant moments with Don McLaughlin in ATWT's 35th anniversary party for Nancy and Chris.- The Media/Journalism Thread
It's a shell game. It's bullshit. CNN loves to play this game, and they are amply rewarded for it. I wish they'd just admit it already and stop trying for respectability. This is who they used to help Trump win. And who the Beltway are now trying to make into a martyr, as her reward for 4 more years of carnage.- GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
At the time I felt like the show left so much unexplored with Bobbie and Carly, as well as Carly's dynamic with Virginia Benson. Sarah and Jackie were very dynamic and unique acting partners and I'll always wonder what might have been on a show with a proper headwriter.- GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
I missed this at the time. I'm glad Jackie was at least here for the 60th, to see what she helped sustain for all these years.- GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
I really hope they do all this, if possible, even if the show has no real interest in Lucas as a character. I imagine Tamara Braun (unless she is still at DAYS, I never remember) could return too. Jackie deserves all this and more. If Brad Maule or Sam Behrens are able I wish they could return in some capacity as well.- GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
I'm dumbfounded. Even in recent times, with all the changes, Jackie still had such presence, and still seemed to be appearing fairly regularly. There would be no GH on the air today without Bobbie. There may not have even been a GH on 40 years ago if not for Bobbie. Bobbie's desperate, raw scheming for Scotty and loathing of Laura helped turn around a deeply moribund show out of step with the current audience. Then when GH was in just as helpless a place in the early '90s, Bobbie and Tiffany fighting over the custody of baby Lucas kept viewers gripped until things could turn around. The story of Carly, however damaging it became to GH in the long run, helped give GH a long run in the first place. And through it all, Jackie gave so many great performances, comedy and drama, but above all else, just had such a dynamic energy. One no one else ever had, or will have. No matter how much the show tried to phase Bobbie out, one producer in particular, she never let go, and viewers never let her go. Until the very end. Thank you, Jackie. - Primetime Soaps
