I'm trying to remember - did Kristina leave during this period because her contract talks had broken down? I know at the time there was a lot of talk of how she was barely used. Then she came back in the summer for the doll story that was abandoned.

I wonder if someone wanted to try to recreate Kristen/Susan/etc. with Ashley and Eileen went along. This would be more powerful if the show hadn't killed off Dina (although I'm not sure if Marla Adams is still able to work). I suppose anyone who was hooked on Y&R and SB in the '80s might have another string to draw Eden and Ashley together. Nick and Lily...I know this happens all the time on soaps (and in real life) and it's not like they ever had major story together then, but all I can think is that when Josh Morrow was first brought on the show, Lily hadn't even been born. Josh Morrow may look very good for his age, but surely Nick has to grow up at some point.

There is video going around from the "free Palestine" protests at the Biden/Obama/Clinton fundraiser - violently shoving and attacking a (presumably) Jewish man who was trying to get through to see his mother, the usual anti-US chants and saying they want to bring Hamas to run the US, and one with a man shouting misogynist ("c") and anti-Semitic ("k") slurs at a woman. In none of these is there any sense of doubt or hesitation, and none of this is about Palestine. Whatever this movement was meant to be is long co-opted. I'm seeing some on the left who are angry over Biden trying to get Haley supporters. I would agree it's likely pointless, but when you have such proud bigots who make it clear they will never support Biden and are just fine with Trump, he has little choice. Most of them genuinely like Trump, and always have. They just don't want to admit it - yet.

@Contessa Donatella (from the AW thread) I know there's been some...speculation here about whatever went down with Martha and Goutman. Others may know better than I do.

The ATWT ending was pure ego. I blame that partly on his running ATWT for a decade and seemingly seeing it as his show. I will never get past how disappointing that finale was.

That's wonderful news. I thought the character was dead. It will be great to see Steven back on soaps, even just for a few days.

As someone who always wanted more of the Burton/Brown era Jason and Carly, at least until it became clear how virulently Burton disagreed, their current relationship is so bittersweet to try to watch. I saw the scene where Anna was telling Jason about Britt. I can't claim I was a Britt fan (I barely saw her last years on the show anyway) but it was a touch you don't get very often now on soaps. I especially liked Anna politely saying those weren't her experiences with Britt. The whole Jason's harem aspect has long been one of the most draining aspects of his tenure. The show doesn't seem to be playing into it yet, which has gotten some backlash from certain fan groups (like Liz/Jason fans), but I'm sure we'll get a lot more soon enough. I was never that into Liz either, but I can see why her fans would be unhappy at her being stuck with Easton or Howarth year in and year out.

80-82, when I try to watch that era, often seems incredibly dull to me - just lifeless, with an influx of dull new characters or iffy recasts. I can see where Swajeski's is worse, and certainly lacks many of the best of the early '80s, but the overall ensemble, at least up to mid 91 (I haven't watched a lot past that point), helps keep me more entertained, especially the spark plugs like Carmen Duncan, Anna Stuart, or Anne Heche.

As I get older I try very hard to not put bad energy out there when people pass away, unless they are truly the scum of the earth, so I am going to just keep many of my thoughts on Lieberman to myself and say I wish his family grace and strength.

That's what it is all about, in spite of all the blather from people about hypocrisy over criticizing her hiring, or the importance of being fair and balanced. It's all about access, wanting to still cling to the GOP for dear life those book deals and dinner party invitations. They thought they could get away with anything.

Based on all the propaganda going out lately about how anyone who is hired at a job is unqualified unless they're white, it's probably worse now than it has been in a long time. I saw earlier today people attacking the mayor of Baltimore as a "DEI mayor." Complete mask off racism.

The response is often that special elections are different because more motivated voters come out and Democrats often won them in years where they ultimately lost in November (like 2004), but this happening in Alabama is a better sign, especially as this was a very red area, apparently.
