AMC: Lifetime TV Movie Franchise Announced
If this isn't tied to Ripa and Consuelos I might be more likely to watch, although I wish Agnes Nixon were here to navigate. I mainly hope, if this happens, they can get Susan Lucci as this would be the perfect format to finish Erica's story. If only P&G gave a damn about doing anything with their soaps as this could be a good format for them too.

The Media/Journalism Thread
CNN wants Trump to win. MSNBC wants Trump to win. He made them a lot of money. He made them stars. He made them feel special. He had people working for him who'd get on the phone or text chains and have a good ol' bitchfest they could cackle along with. They just can't admit it outright. Speaking of which, the narrative is already starting to form, which is another reason I am hesitant about how much impact the debate will have.

Very sad news. Joy and Pain is a wonderful song, among so many classics.

If we get to November and Harris wins, I'll agree. Until then I generally just wish the debate hadn't happened.

I think this is another case of us vs the target audience (and the spinmeisters paid to help Trump). The same was said about him in the 2016 debates. What may seem off is a clarion call to the disturbed who flock to him.

They really did come up with this [!@#$%^&*] about eating cats and ducks just to try to help him in the debate. I can't believe we've fallen so low in this country that his insane lies, the same stuff used to demonize immigrants for centuries, are treated as the gospel. One of the most dangerous things about Trump as a candidate is he can say and do whatever he wants in a debate - lie, overtalk, bully, threaten - and if you argue back against him, you will seem defensive. Yet if you just try to take the high road, you look weak. He wins either way. Debating him is just enabling him.

The usual ecosystem filtered out through hatemonger social media, which everyone else then has to react to. I saw Eric Swalwell going on about it today in Congress.

Eric is so offputting here. No wonder fans rejected his return.

I often tell myself their lies and games don't have an effect, even with all the control they have over the media, but when that NYT poll was going around saying that the public saw Trump as more moderate and saw Harris (who has painstakingly tried to be in the middle ground even to the point of likely losing some support) as further to an extreme, I was reminded of how powerful their framing still is. Even the last few days they have gotten people to move focus from Trump with all their sick smears and lies about Haitian immigrants eating cats.

GH: AMC actress as the New Lulu Spencer
I had no idea Justin Bruening was on a Netflix show that is nearing four seasons. I hope his hair doesn't look like that all the time.

Not to us, but in the echo chamber, and in some of these polls results of late (if they are accurate), I think it worked.

GH: AMC actress as the New Lulu Spencer
Lulu has always been a failed character so I wish her luck. I remember her being OK on AMC but Babe was so hard to watch.

The narrative from the Beltway has incessantly been that any support for Harris has just been a "honeymoon" and people would reject her once they woke up and they saw she wasn't answering questions. I don't agree, but this has been drummed into the heads of the public for a month now. Add in the rampant racism and sexism that is the core of this country, and glowing media coverage of Trump (including treating his clear lies about paying for IVF, supporting abortion rights, marijuana, what have you), and I'm not surprised. The media has a way of building up every moment for Harris in a way where even if she succeeds, they can spin it as a failure. Her VP pick. The convention. Her CNN interview. And now, the debate. I also think many people in this country have always liked Trump (a byproduct of 30-40 years of fawning profiles), who shares their bigotries and cruelties and makes them "fun" or "honest," and they can be more open now, especially after his alleged assassination attempt. There's a chance Harris can win, but it's likely going to be very very close if she does.

I mostly noticed as she put it out in New York. Supposedly respectable publications just keep supporting her.

I keep trying to post less Twitter here because I know they are so hard to read now but @Vee might be able to describe Olivia Nuzzi's latest turd better than I can anyway. Let's just say it contains passages gushing over Trump now having a permanently awed face like a newborn, and that "an ear had never before been so important, so burdened."

This is part of a promo made for the syndication of the show. The longer promo is in poorer quality but worth posting.

That makes sense. I tuned out a lot of Brian and Justin as they bored me to tears. I'd forgotten they recast Reed in the last season. Glad I never saw most of that.

That's so funny. Yet somehow very '80s. Something about these '80s serial killer stories on soaps just leave me uneasy, as they often go out of their way to make the women weak, and we need to watch them cowering and suffering. I don't believe Maree Cheatham's Stephanie would have been so weak. I know seeing her look at a photo of a young Wendy was meant to be touching, which I guess it was in some way, but it also felt like completely reducing Stephanie to helplessness. SFT really did suffer with the recasts on their young heroines, although I can't remember if the last Suzi was well-received. Cagney is the most I've liked Matt Ashford in any of his soap roles.

Makes sense, given how much hype he got when he played Sonny the first time around. I wonder if that rejection is why he went back to daytime for good.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

These are already around in various forms, probably, but they seem to be fresh uploads from this person rather than just reuploads, so I thought I'd post them. A clip from an episode I don't think is up.- GH: Classic Thread
