Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Oklahoma City is, or was, one of those instances where a big city in a state is actually more conservative than the rest of the state, so I wonder how that will come across.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
January 1994 episode. A good example of the show's doldrums at the time (Courtney's sanctimony makes me particularly angry), but watchable. Iva's return and the John scenes are my favorite parts, along with Lucinda and Jessica talking. Oh, and Lucinda asking Holden where his son is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXA9iUPUD8I First half of a November 2005 episode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo1OYLpiPQw

The Politics Thread
There is no longer any attempt at rational debate of this issue because how can you debate with something like this? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/18/michael-burgess-abortion_n_3459108.html The dialogue has just become so unflinching and insane.

The Politics Thread
I talked about those in the status bar yesterday. Most people don't go to this thread anymore. I assume it's because the thread scares them off (or maybe my posts do). Here's Chris Christie, whose consistent homophobia always seems to be overlooked when the media and some Democrats give him a big bear hug and anoint him President, again pushing anti-gay views. No comment on whether he is also upset with the court for getting rid of the VRA, a bill also passed, repeatedly, by Congress. This is what makes me roll my eyes the most at the bigots. They are just whining up a storm over Kennedy's remarks and how mean they were (when these attacks have been made for years and years - the same attacks Kennedy is addressing), and how you should never overrule Congress, but they did not make a peep about the VRA decision. http://www.politico.com/story/2013/06/chris-christie-doma-reaction-93483.html?hp=l10

Edge of Night (EON) (No spoilers please)
I mentioned this in the videobash thread, but it's a good little episode from the late 50s, one I hadn't seen before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZeDhGJcrO4

Love of Life Discussion Thread
Some of us discussed this in the videobash thread where the last episode was uploaded, and some here. I thought the episodes were not too good and were dated (even by 1980) and melodramatic, and it sounds like it wasn't going to get better if the show had stayed on. But there were some bright spots too.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I like Dennis too, I just think if you bring him back, let's have some exploration of who he was and where he was. The woman who played his sister Linda is still alive, and presumably is still healthy enough to act if she wants to. Bring her back for a visit. Bring in her sons, or grandsons. It's sad that the show never even really did anything with the friendship Ken and Dennis had in the 60s. I'm not sure if you've watched any of the 60s episodes Dennis was in, but he's so vibrant and alive. While I know that was fifty years ago, I wish we had some writing along those lines now for the character.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
The efforts to find another Blanche are a great example of Corrie's redundancies and their decisions to concentrate on the wrong parts of their past. Pointless nostalgia is never a good thing. There was zero reason to make Tommy a Duckworth, other than a poorly written and acted drug mole story with Terry. And while I will always hope to see more of the Tanners, there was no apparent reason to bring back Dennis either. Blanche worked because she was Blanche. Not because of a character type. If you look at Corrie after Ena, Annie, and Elsie left, there were no attempts to replace them. Some say that Bet was like Elsie, but that was mostly just in bad luck with men, not in any specific characteristics. Phyllis Pearce was called the new Ena, but again, they actually had very little in common. I've seen talk about how Deirdre should be the new Blanche, but I don't think that works either. She just comes across as abrasive and incredibly stupid when she behaves that way. It's not naughty fun like it was with Blanche. When she says that Joe McIntire was "crazy", or when she works hard to get Tyrone convicted and then never shows any remorse, it just makes her seem like a hypocritical bitch. Deirdre should be written as a very serious character. As for the baby, I've heard people say they're "Team Put In Care."

Tyler Perry's 'Haves and Have Nots' on OWN
I think Parros had some grey in his hair when he popped up on ATWT again briefly in 2009. I used to think he was wooden, and part of me still does, but I think he's a good stalwart partirach/leading man, like an Eric Forrester figure. If I were writing a soap that's where I would cast him.

All My Children Tribute Thread
The whole "everything is great now" timing of the article is a little interesting, since, aside from the Erica/Jack/Travis/Barbara quad, I don't know if anything on AMC at this time was very popular. I guess maybe Tad/Dixie. I guess anniversary articles will always be like that though. I'm trying to remember if any of the big anniversary years were good for AMC.
