Tricia was very pretty and attractive in an offbeat way before they started dressing her like a frump. I'm not a fan of catfights on soaps most of the time but when they're built up to they show the desolation in a character. Katherine was desolate here. Her resorting to violence showed how angry and hurt she was. Wonderful writing choice. When Brittany was throwing her hair around during that confrontation with Cassandra, she reminded me a lot of Jess in the 90s.

Now that I'm nearly through with the 3/2/90 episode, I can't help wondering if Bell originally planned for Amy to pose as a maid with Nathan as another member of staff, but something fell through. It makes no real sense that Adrian would have never seen Selena as a cop, and "oh he didn't get close to the investigation" doesn't make a ton of sense either. i had to pause at the scene where Cassandra told Selena she wouldn't have to cook, and Selena said yes, she did, to keep up the ruse. The whole thing screamed of Bill Bell realizing the questionable decision to have the two only black characters on the show working as servants. That whole scene with the limo driver bringing Katherine back and then Katherine being in complete shock and dissolving at the end - that hurt to watch. Jeanne knew how to wring out those emotions. It's one of her most powerful performances. Was this Brittany's exit? I wonder why they didn't let her in on the plan. Chase circling "foe" in the crossword puzzle after Danny's return was clever writing. I guess that story didn't last too long though. I didn't know Nina was hung up on Chase at this time. It's a shame the show didn't revisit this and instead wrote Chase out.

I get the feeling the show had no real idea what to do with Liza by that point.

I just watched the one where Katherine meets Marge. Danny's return was very sweet. I was never a fan of Danny's but he worked well in this group of people and this era of the show. David's disgusted face at Danny's return amused me. Nina Arvesen gives a real tour de force in those agonizing later scenes as she realizes she has to say yes to Adrian. So many emotions. At one time I would have been so wrapped up in all of Jack's angst over John but it's tough to care now. Great cliffhanger with not knowing whether Marge or Katherine escaped the cabin. (I assume Marge since I don't know if Katherine would have left Esther behind...well that and the story isn't over yet). The part where Marge does her "Katherine" voice and Katherine reacts with shock - wonderful work from Jeanne.- Coronation Street: Discussion Thread

Nothing anyone says to Barbara will make a difference. This is a woman who bearded for Roy Cohn. That tells everything of who she was and will always be.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread

I guess the most high-profile character to have temp recasts would be Viki Riley and Katherine Chancellor, then Jessie Brewer. (and then as years passed the shows were increasingly reluctant to recast high profile roles even briefly)- Y&R: Old Articles

I forgot to say how much I enjoyed that scene where Craig and Lucinda were talking and she made a dig at Iva and he made a cat noise. I don't think anyone understood their relationship the way Hubbard and Bryce did. Craig thought she was a pain in the ass, but he loved her anyway.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Nice to see Susan's first day back as a regular character. And what do you know, she's fighting with Ellen on the Very. First. Day. I love it. I have a feeling Lisa's lines about being so happy Shannon and Barbara were getting along were written as genuine, but Eileen wisely played them as somewhat sarcastic. Duncan is so smarmy and unlikeable at this time. You wouldn't think they had plans to keep him around long-term. I wonder if they were setting up a romance between Seth and Lyla. You wouldn't think they were about to write Heather out. Strange. Tonya Pinkins has such a lovely voice. Nella...not the best actress. John is so fooled by Meg. Then again he had a weakness for young blondes.- Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread
Sad news. She sounds like a wonderful lady. I'm glad WLS took the time to write so much about her, as many may not remember her or her run on SFT. Her work in some of this episode is really good, especially around 11 minutes in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEADBr9QXWs- Y&R: Old Articles

If anything I thought the early QAF stories were more ridiculous than some of the later ones (aside from nonsense like Emmett's affair with the football player). Gale and whoever played Justin started phoning it in long before the last season.- Degrassi: The Next Generation
I don't know if I ever mentioned it - the boy who played Cam was on Supernatural a few months ago. He had the main role in the episode (he was playing a younger version of one of the main characters). He was actually really, really good.- All My Children Tribute Thread
I'm glad they were branching Cecily out into other stories (I guess because they knew that Charlie was leaving the show). I didn't know Sofia Landon was on the show at this time. Who did she play? Chilling cliffhanger with Cindy. Another brief moment with Silver and Erica. I'm always a little surprised that Erica isn't more guarded with her or resentful of her being with Jeremy. Susan Lucci and Walt Willey had some serious chemistry here. - As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I didn't realize Nick Costello started this early. Is this the same actor? I wonder if they'd already intended him to be James' henchman. Watching here you'd think that Duncan had done something terrible to Beatrice, not that he was being manipulated and that he and Beatrice were both innocents. I wonder if they decided to make him more sympathetic later in the year. Love that scene where Bob tears into the DA. They usually didn't let Bob get into this much of a fury.- Degrassi: The Next Generation
