  1. JEOPARDY! will start rolling out reruns next week. Obviously, game show repeats aren't as exciting as soap repeats (especially for a show like J! that hasn't really had any huge changes over the years), but I'm looking forward to seeing the bookending 2004 episodes. I have noooo interest in watching James Holzhauer be obnoxious all throughout the GOAT tournament again. I really hate the fact that the possibility of TPIR rerunning some Bob episodes is most definitely less than zero.
  2. EJ Bonilla was not much to watch on GL, but god, I'd climb that man like a tree.
  3. I think the first episode is fabulous and a true testament to how soaps were written then. Even though Bill used Y&R to usher in many changes to how daytime looked and sounded (just compare this to Papa Bauer's death/funeral on GL from just under two months earlier), he was still a practitioner of slow-moving soap opera that was not at all about jumping up and grabbing a viewer out of his/her seat with the very episode. The idea is that if the viewer had patient and endurance, they would be rewarded beyond measure once a story hit its climax. The writer had to know just when to release the drama - not too soon and not too late. We'll never see anything like it ever again. It's always funny to see the show that would become the polished, elegant Y&R begin literally within the context of the mid-70s trucker obsession. That original premise, though, of a family of four grown-up daughters and the conflicts among them all was excellent. I'd do nearly anything to watch the first 7 years.
  4. It was, this is just a B&W kinescope. It's very hard to come across any copies of soaps from the late 60s and early 70s in their original color format (unless it's Days of Our Lives, Dark Shadows, or The Doctors). It's great to see that episode back on YouTube again.
  5. I was about to say lol He lives with her, was in soaps, and Alan worked with him. It'd be kinda rude to not extend the invitation to him.
  6. Her Stories touches a lot on the stylistic changes in daytime throughout the 1960s and 1970s. One of the major points made is that shows like GH, DAYS, and Y&R could experiment with bigger sets and more cinematic camera work due their benefit of being based in California. The New York soaps were produced in much smaller studios that had much less room for bigger and/or deeper sets. It's why Agnes's shows initially stood out because of their subject matter.
  7. I'm nearly halfway through The Yellow Rose and really enjoying it. I was always of the impression that it was a Dallas clone, and obviously it was inspired by the primetime soap trend of the time, but I would never compare it to any of the others. I would actually say that it's more akin to the classic family westerns of the 60s like The Big Valley and The High Chaparral. I'm sensing a soapier turn coming up, which I'm fine with it, but I hope they manage to blend the two genres well.
  8. I only learned how to pronounce Agim Kaba's name because of Cady McClain's odd but sorta endearing explosion of love for him and Peyton List at the end of her Emmy speech (made even more unintentionally hilarious because of the wrap-it-up music chiming in at just the right time. And yes, because I'm sure it'll be mentioned even though it's irrelevant, Chris Goutman is mentioned and seen during her speech. That's not why I embedded the video. I also feel as though you're not going to get anyone who was done with the show by the late 1990s or early 2000s. He's reuniting with the people he worked with and actually knows.
  9. I've only been watching these once they're done and posted because I despiseeeeeee live streams that are filled with technical difficulties.
  10. The Adam stuff was too much (though I did love Matthew Cavanaugh), but I was totally here for Casey Hughes being a sht. Some of the biggest assholes come from a good home, especially one like the Hughes home, where the illusion was that was they were always on the "right" side of the an issue. The problem is, of course, as always, ATWT had some great, domestic storylines just within reach and refused to jump up and grab them, especially with the teens. The Maddie/Noah/Luke triangle that could have been revolutionary was steamrolled because we needed Luke and Noah to be together Right Away God Dammit. Jade's interloping with Gwen and Will should have been played much better, and Casey as the [!@#$%^&*] Hughes who had a past with Gwen could have finally wiped the slate clean and worked with them to get Jade in check. The problem is that ATWT stories last for all of a month, maybe a month and a half, back then, unless it was some ridiculous, long, drawn-out, depressing Paul/Emily bullshit.
  11. That does look good! It's like a mix between SBTB and Welcome Back Kotter. I'm in.
  12. I like this group. If it's going to be a regular for the time being, it's a good idea to reach out to different cast members from different eras to get different perspectives.
  13. I never really bought this as anything more than just a caption for the picture. In the context of the photograph and the scene from the 2012-2014 series, the Ewings were "fighting back." Dallas without JR could work, IMO. In real life, JR Ewing would die, and the family would continue to succeed or fail.
  14. Yes, and I just found it, and the poster claimed that all of their gossip came from another poster at another message board who supposedly got it from Elena Goode. I'm calling 100% bullsh!t on that.
  15. Yes, thank you. The thought that anyone was fired because of an affair is foolish. It's not like TC's husband was also part of the ATWT company. I love Colleen, but it's really hard for me to look at her the same after the two DUIs.
  16. I think this is the second time CZ has gone on record to criticize the Barbara/Gunnar pairing, and it's funny, because I remember clear as day when they made a ton of videos for the show's 50th anniversary, she specifically said that her favorite storyline was "early Barbara, James, and Gunnar." This thread is the first I heard a lot about CZ not being the most pleasant person behind the scenes.
  17. I can't watch right now, but did Austin mention his (our) birthday yesterday?
  18. I thought it was terrible. I was no Vienna fan in any way (she did grow on me with time), but I hated how they turned her into a villain to support Henry getting with Barbara just so that they could do Ellen DeGeneres-style dance numbers each week. It was terrible. I get why CZ loved it on a personal level considering what she'd been going through at the time, but I wish they'd given her something else.
  19. Same. Eileen kept a fairly updated blog on her official website years ago when ATWT was still on the air, and her personality is as bubbly and fun as you'd expect. Her with no filter and no fear would be exciting. Throw Marie Masters in there as well.
  20. I'm with you on this 100%. I recall at the time there were people ready to not only condemn KZ but also Jake as homophobes because he vacated the role. The reason they gave was extremely legitimate - he was 15 and wanted to focus on finishing school and doing music, and, surprise, that's exactly what he did. Kim's a very smart woman. I would imagine she encouraged him to do ATWT as a summer job that would be a crash course into acting so that when he was ready to do it full-time, he wasn't entirely green.
  21. Kim Zimmer is a queen. Dames like her are always polarizing. Maureen Garrett referring to the show's decline in quality as when "it frumbled down" is my favorite thing.
  22. Brooke is notttttt letting Erica camp out at the mansion lol
  23. Wait - they FINALLY did a Betty Wright episode? That's the one I've always wanted, but I remember reading a few years back that Betty wasn't interested because she didn't want to be seen as a "has-been" Oh, okay, I see it premiered last night. I'm about to boot that sht up and watch it right NOW. Lord, I'm in my feelings off the strength of the teaser alone. Damn. I love this woman so much. Why is Trick Daddy slurring his ass through this? Okay, let me stop live posting this lol --- I finished, and what a wonderful episode. Not a lot of drama because Betty managed to avoid drug/alcohol abuse and also had/has a great team of people around her, mostly family. Her main problem seemed to be running to the altar with guys who looked and seemed good on the outside but were really not for her in the end. I teared up at the end with her daughters singing back-up and her just sitting in the backyard and enjoying her life. She's always been one of the most down-to-earth and realest singing stars, and one of the things mentioned (but I don't think they really explored it) was that she made a ton of choices to stay true to herself, maybe those choices kept her from blowing up in a bigger way, but she has definitely gotten her flowers while living, and she's still young - only 66. She still has a youthful mindset, and that's helped her continue to find success decade after decade. Great episode and story.
  24. Back then, they relied more on second-hand programming. Little House on the Prairie was a staple there for years - I remember every time they debuted a new schedule without it, they'd end up bringing it back a week or two later because it was a hit (and still is, it's never been off the air since it premiered in 1974), which connects to the topic since Maura brought it up as an example of the type of show that really doesn't exist anymore. I'm not sure I'd put ATWT in the same "family-friendly" category as LHOTP, but a network that was successful with Golden Girls before it became trendy to like Golden Girls could have had success with quarterly GL/ATWT movies. They still could, though maybe the ship has sailed. They'd have to find a way to sell it to the built-in audience while also making is accessible to people who never watched the original series. It could totally work. You woudn't have an entire soap-sized cast involved in each movie. With ATWT, you could focus half of your movies on the Snyders and half on the Hughes/Stewart group and alternate between the two, maybe present smaller stories so that you could have them all included in a Christmas special, etc. In 2017, Hallmark made 33 original movies just at Christmastime. They absolutely 100% have the resources to make this happen. It just takes interest on their part and willingness on P&G's part.
  25. Yes! I forgot all about that. It was like 2003 or 2004 when that first came out, and no one believed it for yeeeeeeeeeeears, and then here comes Retro. In a way, I'm glad because Hallmark would've never given the show the treatment it's gotten from Retro. It might've been different with GL and ATWT, but The Doctors would've last maybe two months before getting pulled.
