Ancient pros are not the answer. I'll just rehash what I told a couple friends earlier.
You are not going to replicate the Bill Bell house style, language or tone and make the clock roll back onscreen. And most of his proteges are now senior citizens, unable to safeguard the future. A lot of the remaining audience stands by the show in its decrepit state for its vets, #1 with a bullet still being ol' Victor, and their memories of old times.
You can't unmake the show into what it once was. Too much has changed. And you can neither broom out all the old folks who keep the show afloat nor totally reboot. But you can find someone out there (preferably someone under 50-60, preferable Black, who did grow up watching the show) with a bold new vision and voice to be HW, maybe backstopped by one of the proteges like Alden or Slater or whoever, and try to build from there. It's time to stop tinkering around the edges and do something big.
New blood would have to be less expensive than the longtimers like Carlivati, Pratt, etc. It's doable. They just don't seem to have any will to try at Sony or CBS, which is a shame.
