The interesting thing is to me that most of Days demos were the same but the overall went up, so I suppose that it was a small increment in each demo that didn't change much each demo group but culmatively was a small bump upward.

Were there preemptions for ATWT and GL last Friday? It seems they both fell a few points on that last day while doing strongly the other 4 days. Would've been nice to see GL back at a 2.4. Maybe next week now that Reva's story is kicking in.

No preemptions last Friday that have been reported anywhere. The preemptions in several major areas (Baltimore and Chicago) were the Friday before when every show but 1 or 2 had much lower ratings on Friday than usual. I know Y&R was not affected by that preemption but just about all the other shows were.

What's your definition of spin? Mine is trying to make something good out of a bad situation. DAYS at 2.5 isn't anything to be proud of considering the show was up to a 2.8 just 6 weeks ago. DAYS could be #3 next week if a bunch of things happen, but thats in a world of what ifs....

I read an article recently that stated that advertisers are now starting to look at the total viewership and households when it comes to ratings. It's starting to cost them too much money just focusing on demos.

They have always looked at total viewership, but there are certain products that are not going to do well advertised to all groups. Specific products advertisers do look at the demos.

Miss Lucinda stated that Tums advertised during ATWT yesterday. I hardly ever notice what is advertising so I used hers as an example. I know that some younger people do use them from time to time, but not as often as older people. The makers of Tums are going to look at shows that have a larger older audience.

If condoms are ever allowed to advertise on TV more widely you better believe they are going to target shows that primarily younger.

Viagra, Cialis and all those do advertise on many different programs but they are going to want to advertise to an older audience too. I have never seen one of those commercials when I was watching MTV. They are not going to waste their money there.

Most advertisers want to look at specific audiences. And the majority of shoppers are younger and they are going to target those shows that have a larger younger audience.

I agree with everything you said, but you are missing my point. Passions has a low viewership period. Now it may be high in a few key demos. But there are probably ten different demos and Passions only does well in like two demos when compared to the other soaps which probably have more range when it comes to demos. And then you have your products that cater to multiple demos, like food, electronics, movies....those shows that have the higher overall ratings will get the higher pay for these types of ads.

Nice to see ATWT have a huge jump because it has been great the past two weeks with the Emily story coming to its climax. Really exciting and suspenseful and of course nice to see AMC holding steady and beat GH two straight weeks in total viewers!
