I don’t disagree. I think most of the OG vets that were there under Monty know how to imbue characterization in plot driven material. The writing overall was stronger back then, but there were rough times even when the show was solidly number one and the actors and energy of her show kept it there.

Even though I am enjoying the show much more since Michael was recast, the truth is it still suffers from a sameness and generic writing across the characters. Lucy stands out for better or worse (and I agree with the criticisms of FV Lucy) because Lynn doesn’t let her be generic.

I think even Anna and Laura have suffered from often just being there in this generic writing. Sonny and Carly have too, I don’t even recognize them anymore. They had an opportunity with the body in Laura’s trunk to tell a mini story for her about not letting that drive her back to a trauma driven catatonic state. But instead it’s just a plot device for Sidwell that gets dropped for weeks at a time.

I will harp on this probably until the show ends, but one thing Patrick Mulcahey absolutely got right was that the characters should have specific voices. Maxie being virtually revitalized in a handful of episodes is a great example. I shouldn’t be able to switch the dialogue easily between folks.

Bless Lynn for refusing to let Lucy be just another generic character on the show. So many of them are soulless, either by written word or they just can't fill in the spaces.

As for who Lucy's soulmate is, it's Kevin for me. I loved Lucy, Doc, and Sigmund. I hate that the writers broke them up and they barely interact. Laura deserved better than Luke, but she and Kevin do nothing for me.

Speaking of Luke, he and Lucy had great chemistry. They should've hooked up instead of him and Felicia.

What ever happened to Sigmund? Did he move over to PC too? Or did he escape? I am sure it was explained but I can't recall.

I remember Lucy paid tribute to Sigmund at CoeCoe Cosmetics with her "Golden Duck" sales tier or whatever it was. I think they may have brought in another duck to appear as Sigmund II or something in 2013 for the anniversary, but I don't remember at all.

Yeah, I don't remember at all either. I remember he found a mate or something on GH and I remember Lucy talking about the Golden Duck stuff, but I guess Sigmund disappeared. All I can remember is the stupid llama(s) Lucy keeps bringing to the Nurses Ball

I can understand some of Claire's animal stuff was trite like the Annabelle/Foster dog love story, but it was nice to have some levity on a show that was heavy most of the time.

I miss Sigmund.

I feel like Sigmund vanished and then got a mention from Lucy that he passed when she returned to GH under RC, but I could be wrong.

I agree with all of this. Especially the very first paragraph. One thing that I have loved has been even with the writing...the vets know their characters so well that the audience can still seem the character in them. Lucy, Tracy, and at one point even Anna comes to mind for me.

I will never not be in awe how much Sonny and Carly (shockingly with Carly to be honest) seem so much background now even though so much is going on that does effect them. Reactive over proactive.

ETA: Harp on Patrick Mulachey all you want. You know I do. Because you are right. And we are STILL dealing with the crumbs of stories he largely started.

I think you are right. Now that you mention that I have a vague memory of Lucy talking about Sigmund to Felix and Sabrina in her CoeCoe office.
