When Bill lit into Tomas today, I was hoping Tomas would go cast himself into the Potomac River. The actor is just HORRID.

As @Khan once said about the Generations EP change.

Yep. Whatever good ideas Sally Sussman had as HW/EP, nothing was clicking 'til someone (either Sally herself, or NBC) brought in Jorn Winther to tidy up the place. (Of course, NBC cancelled the show anyway, but I blame that decision more on their impatience with the ratings/demographics than I do on Winther).

Look, I think MVJ has done a masterful job setting up her show for greatness, but it's been over a year now, and I feel as if I'm still watching the first week. You've laid the groundwork, gal. Get on with it.

Haley was on one today and it was freaking hysterical. Loved Bill going off on Tomas as well as I’ll never like the character with AA in the role. And Tomas is not a good guy.

Lynette gave Kat the business and that was highly entertaining as well. Lynette has been an amazing addition to me. I hope she stays.

I need them to keep Dominique around and I don't care how and I don't care how they do it lol.

Make her Anita's niece..... anything.....something lol

960px-Beyond_the_Gates_%282025_logo%29.s

original release date: Tuesday, March 31, 2026 | writers: Michael Montgomery, Danielle Paige | director: Sonia Blangiardo-Goins

Thoughts:

  • I feel sorry that Tomas is having to compile his résumé and look for potential new employment. It might be time to use what he has over Hayley to his benefit.

  • Flavour bomb budget bars? Damn. Those semi-sound delicious, but it depends on what is actually in them.

  • DAMN! What in the Hell was Lynette charging at the Hotel?!?! That is an insane bill in such a short amount of time.

  • Out of everyone who Katherine has gone toe-to-toe with, I get the sense that Bill might be her biggest opponent yet.

  • Wow. Not only was the massage super relaxing-looking, but also also that story was very philosophical. I loved that. Damn. Andre truly does love Dani. I buy it now.

  • Good for Bill to remember everything and hopefully begin to connect the dots between Hayley and Lynette. It is sad it took a fraud alert charge, though.

  • BA-BAM! Not Donnell setting Deanna up and Vanessa just showing up and ambushing Deanna. She will not allow her to exit that booth. I know it.

  • Gag her, Tomas. Be direct with her and confront her for being exactly what you accused her of. Do it!

  • Bill, stop relying on Joey. You know you can do this yourself. Ugh.

  • The passive aggressiveness of Deanna is actually welcomed here. I appreciate Vanessa's honesty and transparency, but it is very clear she is still holding back, and Deanna knows it.

  • Poor Shanice. Comparing yourself to Nicole or anyone else is never helpful. It is only going to lead to your downfall.

  • Did Ted just casually mention the "L" word? Oh no.

Notes:

  • After yesterday's disappointment, Montgomery is here to save the day with an excellent breakdown.

Damn I hate that Tomas is involved in the Bill/Hayley/Lynette/Randy story. They are giving him a juicy part in this and Alex just isn't knocking it out.

Ashley and Derek seemed to work with their resets , but Alex still isn't cutting it.

I'm not holding out much hope that he ever will. He doesn't do anything with his lines except recite them like a poem he memorized to recite to the class, and he lacks the capability of adding any subtext at all.

-- Overall, I was bored today.

-- It's fine to have a Dani/Andre catch-up scene, but that went on too long, and the story had me yawning.

-- Bill is all over the place. He's tough and strong and smart, yet he's clueless when it comes to Hayley. He can be soft and compassionate, yet he threatens Kat with "You best not be insulting my wife."

-- Worst of all, Bill can perform miracles all over town, but he needs White Man Golden Corral Casino Mobster Joey to investigate Lynette??? Make it make sense.

-- This show keeps trying to explain and explain away Vanessa's marriage to Doug, but it is not working. There is NOTHING about her that says "Stay At Home Mom Whose Kids Are #1." I hope Deanna continues to treat her like the trash she is. Meanwhile, Donnell is clueless.

-- I still say Lauren Buglioli is bad with the emotional scenes. She comes off like a Real Housewife faking some tears.

-- I do not like hearing Shanice continually put herself down compared to Nicole. This has now happened multiple times, and it's sickening.

-- I do not buy Ted being in love already.

Honestly, I am getting frustrated with this show. Except for Anita's storyline, other storylines are either spinning the block or going in an illogical direction.

The writing is not great.

They are trying to force us to believe that Ted is already in love with Shanice, who just happened to tell us about her past with a boyfriend who cheated on her with his ex (foreshadowing?). If history repeats itself, it will only be to make Ted look terrible again, which will be unfortunate because we've already gotten an irredeemable serial cheater in Bill.

I think this show is using Dani & Andre to show us (Black) Love In The Afternoon but there ought to be layers to these two and the writing is not giving us any. What happened to Dani's career? We never see Andre taking pictures of anyone beside Dani or some Dupree family member. On Y&R when Malcolm was a photographer, we would see him take pictures of actual models. When Cricket was a model on Y&R, we almost saw too much of her being a model.

In fact, we have lawyers who are never in court, we never see meetings with with all the partners, junior partners, etc. at Bill's firm. We only see Naomi sulking on her phone. Izaiah isn't counseling any students, geez, we could at least have him run into the twins, maybe he knows Deanna had been struggling and asks how she's doing, which maybe Deanna has a bit of a crush...give us something for God's sake!! And Vanessa is clinging to Joey (who I'm also bored with) like a wet rag, it's ridiculous for someone who talks about having a real estate empire but never seems to spend any time running it. I remember Lucinda Walsh (the character that Cady McClain seems to be trying to imitate in Pamela's speech patterns?) ran an empire. Lucinda was amorous but the woman still worked and we saw her actively working, securing deals, trying to outdo the competition, Vanessa does nothing except sit on Joey's lap and plaster a phony look of concern on her face about her kids. I hope Deanna presses Vanessa to tell the truth (or at least let it slip) about when she started sleeping with other people.

Even in the hospital where we sort of see some activity, we never even see these doctors doing Telehealth appointments, let alone treating in person patients (paging Dr. Nicole Dupree-Richardson, Dr. Ted Richardson, and the rest?). I did have a Guiding Light flashback when someone mentioned Anita's doctor, a Dr. Bauer, not being on call when she had her infection and had to be hospitalized.

None of the doctors ever see patients, we never see other patients yet someone believes it's a good idea to add a clinic (that we'll probably never see) to the mix.

Also, I am getting tired of Hayley, maybe it's time for Lynette to get the drop on her. I'm starting think there is some colorist tendencies on this show because Hayley and Leslie-Dana are two of thee most insufferable characters on the show now, and Leslie, Hayley and Lynette are all people who are trying to force their way by manipulating others repeatedly (thus adding to the ranks of the irredeemable). I'm no fan of his but the way Hayley is forcing the sexual harassment issue onto Tomás, especially after practically defending the man who had actually been harassing women at the firm, is pretty low. Suddenly, this show seems to want to make him a victim?

I'm not in favor of MVJ handing off her show to the likes of Guza (so we can give Joey the "Sonny Corinthos" treatment? Hard pass on that one) but if she doesn't bring some fresh blood, who can actually bring some life to these stories (and create some new possibilities), this show may be looking at repeating the fate of Generations.

Lynette spending over $15,000 on Hayley's credit card was beyond ratchet, but Hayley is ratchet too so she should have known that was coming. And I was glad that Tomas pushed back a little bit against Hayley's antagonizing.

Shanice comes off as much better than Nicole. For one, Nicole was very nasty to Ted when he showed concern for Anita and second, she's quite self-centered at times whereas.

Deanna is not letting up off of Vanessa and I am here for it. Vanessa's passive aggressive blocking Deanna into the booth was enough for Deanna to go in even more than she did.

In regards to Andre/Dani - What the show is showing, without meaning to, is that Dani/Andre have no substance other than physical. I'm actually somebody that isn't big into love scenes at all, especially if there isn't any substance with them. I will say that I think Andre is more into Dani, than Dani isn't him. If Bill came to the door tomorrow and said he divorced Hayley and wanted a second chance... Dani would say 'Andre who?'

Vanessa is the 2026 version of an empowered woman that equates sex with power and empowerment, but I see it more as someone that actually isn't empowered whatsoever. I think the show should have had Donnell and Deanna on from the start and taken the place of Tyrrell & Samantha (two characters that really don't gel..imho). Had D & D been on from the start, we could have seen them interacting with Doug.. perhaps seem more of Vanessa trying to still be the societal version of a wife and mother, etc.

LB does much better when she reigns it in. She has an expressive face, and I think that should be used to express how she's truly feeling while putting on a brave face.

Sad to see that Shanice is following in the footsteps of past recurring characters that lose the very essence and elements of what made her character popular. Thank gosh the actress is able to maintain those elements despite the writing working against her.

While I agree with everything you're saying here, the problem is likely money. More sets would be needed, more extras and day players and recurring characters. That's why we don't see a lot of this stuff, and it's a problem. Naomi is an attorney who seems to work exclusively from Orphey Gene's. It's weird. Eva and Derek, same thing. All the clinic stuff seems to be happening there, too.

Soaps just aren't the cash cow they were 30 - 40 years ago, so sets and actors are kept to a minimum.

I wouldn't even care because way back in the 60s and 70s soaps had minimal sets and only a handful of characters (some were as short as 15 minutes long) but they still told compelling stories. So it's not just the lack of sets and actors, it's the writing, too.

For me, it's the lack of momentum to stories that bothers me the most. So many are stop and start, stop and start, oh, remember this thing that happened 8 months ago, let's deal with it again out of the blue.

It's just heartbreaking because IMO, the show has the bones to succeed. They need someone to come in here and take control of this.

All true. But what is puzzling is that they write the stories like those sets and actors would be available.

I was concerned at the outset when they announced realtor, fireman, politician, journalist etc as occupations but figured there would be a way to showcase it somehow. Instead it's all tell don't show which gets wearing after awhile.

Write the show to the budget. There was no point to Derek being a fireman, Vanessa being in real estate, Martin a politician when it is not explored or has much bearing on the characters.

They would have been better off having more characters work at the hospital, police station or Bill's office as these are pretty much the only workplaces shown.

Set design could revolve around what was needed for particular storylines with sets coming and going as needed. Some sets would be useful, but not all the time. EON would rotate sets in and then out based out based specifically on need and they most certainly on a budget in their later years.
