GH had so many in the early '80s too. Given Frank's budget magic it shouldn't be as difficult for him. The writing and interest just aren't there.

Exactly. And Frank will not step back from the writing or creative process to let a new set of writers he has less control over in. He's become JFP in certain ways.

ATWT and AMC both eventually collapsed from the weight of that many people, but they did manage for a long time. GH had so many in the early '80s too. Given Frank's budget magic it shouldn't be as difficult for him. The writing and interest just aren't there.

Yep. Frank's gotta Frank. Cuz yes given his ability to budget, it shouldn't be that hard for him at all.

Keep JFP away from GH at all cost!!!!! She traumatized me from Santa Barbara to GL and then the final nail in the coffin for me at AW. I avoided OLTL and GH when was at the helm.

Look at 1992 Guiding Light. Just the women! Vanessa, Maureen, Holly, Alexandra, Gilly, Mindy, Jenna, Blake, Bridget, Nadine, Harley, Julie, Eleni, Lillian. I’m sure I have forgotten somebody, and they were not all on at the same time but in one year all those women had something to contribute to the show and many of them were in lead stories.

You would think they would work with the schedule and rotate stories better. I get this is hard to do and I don’t just want to slam this team all the time. It’s hard to juggle and they have been better in the last couple of years rotating people into stories. But too much is still dropped or missing because they don’t let any story except the umbrella one have any consistent screen time.

Loved GL in 1991-92 and was written by the fantastic Head Writer James E. Reilly and Co-Head Writers Stephen Demorest & Lorraine Broderick. It was truly great until JFP started inching herself in the writers’ room during 1993-95 as it went downhill fast with her bringing her friends like Tangie (Marcy Walker), losing Beverly McKinsey and killing off the character of Maureen.

I’ll take Frankie over JFP any day.

Don’t forget Nancy Curlee, considering by all accounts she was the leader of that team. She was only gone during the time around the Blackout for maternity leave.

I'd take Jill back in a split second. Her GH was never boring.

No thanks, I think she is a toxic EP who has the worst tendencies. She does more damage than she brings positive things, and I don’t think GH would survive another tenure with her.

I don't think JFP's tenure was a massive failure or anything. She dropped the ball with women-ie Vanessa and Genie, but the show moved at a quick pace and looked good. She's definitely not here for the women, but she was also mostly sidelined by Guza by the end of her run and a de-facto figure.

I just don’t think she brings enough benefit to deal with the problems. The show will look good, certainly the lighting will have some variety. She used to have mostly good instincts with casting. But at what cost? All she likes is misery. Not drama, misery. She had more to do with Stuart Damon’s firing than Guza did. For me, every storytelling instinct she has is bad.

I agree!

At this point, I don't know who could assume the reins. I'd love to see Shelley Curtis given a try, since I think she (and Al Rabin) were responsible for a lot of what made DAYS so heartfelt in the '80's, but she's likely retired and unwilling to get back into the grind.
