I never thought bringing Nathan back was necessary under any circumstances, but I am especially bummed for Spinelli.  I really like Spixie and all the years he helped raised James will be wiped away because his "real" father is back.

With Storms out and BA's minimal appearances Spinelli will probably get two days of perspective about this and we won't seem him for months lol.

I feel the same. Spixie won me over again in the last year-plus and it's weird yet typical how they've sort of tossed Spinelli aside in this already. Like Mac, he has raised these children for most of their lives.

I highly doubt Paevey can play a villain, but there is also just no story in the old Nathan returning from the dead. He never had much of a personality beyond his pecs. It all feels like a weird excursion grown out of their desperate need to find a workable romance and bigger story for Steve (with KT/Britt), which in turn has led this team back to indulging some of their favorite pastimes - the Obrecht clan, FV's clear lust for Paevey, etc. I'm sure CVE is in hog heaven with these characters, but it's already weighing the show down.

They have a vocal but IMO pretty small fanbase. There was never much compelling about Nathan (or Chase) but some people love a Prince Charming and are happy with literal plastic.

And yeah. Twitter would make you think every pointless character or couple on the show (Jordan, Nina despite my enjoyment of Watros, Michael/Willow, Dex/Joss, Brennan/Carly) has a massive fanbase. But with most of the more recent characters or couples on modern GH, it's usually not much of one. just small handfuls of loud people, I wouldn't even say Sonny and Nina had a big one either. If Guza was here he'd have smoked them without hesitation.

I love the more mature version of Spixie.  I know a lot of it's on Bradford's schedule and whatever Storms is doing, but the couple finally wasn't bouncing off walls with hyperactivity and weird nicknames and it basically became a D story lol.  Spinelli is finally acting like a responsible adult and father and the show cares nothing about it.

To me having Britt come back and then Nathan in a matter of weeks kills the impact, if that makes sense?  Sure, I assume it's connected, but it such a small group people reacting to it that it lessens the importance.  Great for Liesel that she has both her dead kids back, but have we seen her since she broke up with Scott a few years ago?

Thanks!  I remember people being sad about him dying, but outside of Storms doing some decent work with Nathan's death, I barely recall any of it.

I swear some strange characters have large fanbases that I don't understand at all.

Again, Nathan and Chase are the same person to me so what do I know?

I remember them being pretty popular. I too didn't mind them too much. Goodness knows they got a lot of story. Mind you, I did drop out of regular viewing mid-RC GH run which is roughly around the time they started to take off.

Same.

And on that, we also agree. I remember finding out Nathan died and about Chase. Observing that they were one and the same really. Both handsome though at the time, I felt RP edge CS out for me, but I have seen my type change over the last few years lol.

I do love that I am not the only one with disdain for CVE since I've come back to regular viewing BTW.

Same. Another great thing from PM was the slowly coming together of those two and so much more mature than they have ever been. And organic to boot.

You sound like how I feel yesterday about how momentum seems to be getting lost with these returns because I'm afraid the writers...who have done a great job of keeping their momentum through their shifting focus from interesting story to interesting story...might jump back into their annoying writing tics. So it makes sense to me. :) Titan mentioned similar as well. And yes...before the resurrection of the O clan, Dr. O's airtime steadily vanished after broking up with Scotty and then she vanished. If I remember correctly, it was months later that we got a one-liner that she was gone.

I blame it on SOD's knowledge. 😜

Yes, so we agree on all lol.

I think GH could have done a better job building more of Britt's secret, held Nathan until KS was able to return, or even worked out block filming for her.

I have accused GH of being boring and having no cliffhangers fairly recently (mostly pre-Drew's villain turn), but now it's like GH has so many "big" things happening everything is getting lost in the shuffle.  There's a real pacing problem.  It's either too much or too little.

It's more a serious of events than organic story telling, but most soaps have this issue currently.

Britt's return had a solid start for me, but it has been let down by how they have her acting since she landed in PC. And using other characters to make her comic relief that isn't good comic relief did not help her case. And right when the Monica's death arc started was just stupid. BTG also had a similar situation in the same time period where a serious storyline was going down that included a death that had a counterbalance of comedy going on with a couple (and a drag queen) that did the technique much better with better acting so it stood out even more and worse due to it.

I've been saying the same thing about the Nathan storyline. They could have saved his return until Maxie returned. And doing it during the start of the Monica's death arc made it stick out like a sore thumb in a BAD way. I did like it was pivoted the second week (and making it more intriguing for me) by adding people who I care about and would be affected. KW's scenes as Felicia laid eyes on Nathan was a highlight for me. But the storyline is just unnecessary when you have Britt in Wacka Wacka Land, the story of Who Shot Drew on a simmer, messiness started with Curtis/Portia/Isaiah, etc. If anything, I'm surprised knowing RP that they did not do block filming for KS. Cuz Frank loves them block filmings.

Wow, really? I feel like GH has grown surprisingly good at putting cliffhangers in their episodes. It has made my binging to catch-up extremely fun because I do want to find out what happens next. But I guess it helped there were a lot of stories going on that I loved and wanted to get into with characters that I was liking not named Jacinta. lol. But like I mentioned, I felt the writers have managed to do a lot, but still keep the momentum going, shifting nicely. Now it feels like they are about to shift into silliness or stupid stories, but fingers cross they do another shift.

So it's B&B? jk!!!

Yeah.

Ryan Quan picked up some bad habits from all those years under Ron Carlivati

Who even knows what's going on with KS?  Lol.  I was getting confused with them switching her and the pinch hitter Maxie out at different times.

GH is awful at Friday cliffhangers.  So it you are binge watching it's probably okay.  If you are live watching I would question why they ended with something memorable on Tuesday, but Jason's staring out a window on Friday lol.

The jury is still out on Ryan Quan for me. But I hope not. I'm finding Jamey Gidden's breakdowns so far, so good for me on BTG in spite of what I've heard of his writing.

But is that any difference than what was going on with Kelly and Lindsay, the Year of a 1000 Mollys, and JJ and Older Will Number 2? Still I have wondered loosely if the reason they went ahead with the Nathan storyline is the fact that they are not even sure when KS will be back. Echoing the situation mentioned a few pages back about GF and the stalling of the Cassadine story back in the day.

Friday cliffhangers...I can see. Now cliffhangers...I would disagree. I know there was a Friday cliffhanger I didn't like where Jason is being comforted by Danny which would have been a nice Friday coda and Monica coded. The show instead wanted to use Nathan as the cliffhanger/coda and I was like WHY? Monica is more important than Nathan and even then...outside of Dante (sorry, Anna)...there was no one majorly important involved to make him that important over Monica.

I would say KS's many absences are a bigger issue than the others.  Kelly, Pullos, and JJ are gone and they were more isolated incidents as far as time off regardless of reasons.  Kirsten has taken years off.  She owes me no explanation, but when she openly says I am getting 6-7 months to move and staying on contract while doing so it does look like preferential treatment. -especially when there is a story happening where she is quite relevant.

Idk, Genie stalling the Cassadine story was annoying.  But she is Laura.  Maxie can be recast.  And Genie was very transparent about her extended maternity leave.  I am not saying it's right, but it's a lot more believable than I need a year off for endometriosis, weeks off for psoriasis, and half a year to move across the country.

I do wish Kirsten the best and it's not my place to judge.  I personally would have ditched her years ago even if Maxie did have a great renaissance these last few years.   I could just be a very mean and cynical person though lol.

I don’t have any ill will towards any parent wanting more time with their kids, especially newborns. And considering how much of a troubled time she had as a young woman, I assume this was a wonderful time for her. But I do remember Guza’s Michael Logan return interview in 1998, and when asked about her he said he would practically beg to get her back to the show. And the return at the ball was spectacular.

Add me to the list of folks that are kind of sad for Spinelli with this Nathan stuff. He was one of my favorite parts of the Britt nonsense last week, when he confronted her at the hospital. I like when they use his brain. I was already seeing the writing on the wall when James said he wished Cody was his father. Which is fine if they were going to explore it in any way. But I would like him to show a depth of feeling for Spinelli too. And as far as Chase or Nathan, Chase is at least more charming and engaged.

My fear with the sudden shift is that we are getting a classic Valentini interference reset. Lots of stuff is working but not for him or some other exec, and they derail it. It’s usually noticeable because stories just stop, couples they have been forcing on us for years suddenly break up, etc. Time will tell I guess!
