It was a line more suited to one of Nola's fanstasies, that's for sure. lol.

Right. We were used to Nola's skewered version of events.

A recast Allison just would not have happened in the original show. Recasts were used twice and only as temps due to illness.

Speaking of that, while I adored Dorothy Malone, I thought Lola Albright did a fine job as a temporary recast.

In RTPP a recast was acceptable because the cast was pretty much all new and recasts were part of the daytime genre.

I agree. We expected a bunch of new faces before the show even premiered. Viewers who didn't want to accept that, just wouldn't even watch in the first place.

I admit I wish that episodes from RTPP were available so I could see how Kathy Glass and Pamela Susan Shoop approached playing Allison.. since both actresses seem so opposite of one another.

I only know of Shoop from Halloween II and the gruesome way that her character was disposed of so seeing her playing Allison would have been interesting.

I agree. If any of the other primetime soaps proposed around that time went ahead, Lola Albright would have been great casting.

Thank you so much for the kind words.😚

I'm humbled and blushing.🫠

You know whom to come to, if you ever need a kidney!

I think your insightful commentaries are even better than a kidney.  ❤️

Well worth watching for the cinematography alone.

I plan to start the show tonight with my husband. I LOVE Mia Farrow, so I'm excited. 😊

Shoop showed more depth and versatility as Allison in RTPP than she ever did in the awful films she made. It was probably the material that made her (and most of her co-stars) look bad in those productions, but IMHO she was likeable on RTPP.

Lola Albright was a lovely woman and would have fit right on another soap if given a role of her own. I just found Dorothy Malone too likeable and charismatic to be replaced permanently. (She was also va-va-va-VOOM gorgeous.)

Ohh, be careful, don't jinx yourself! Never turn down a potential life-saving organ!😬

Like almost all soaps (Y&R being one major exception in my mind), PP had growing pains in the beginning. Some of the most intriguing characters were originally in the position of supporting players, while some other denizens of Peyton Place, whom I felt didn't "jell" well, got screen time which I really wanted to go elsewhere. One couple, in particular, bored me to the point of grating on my nerves. Still, TPTB worked out the kinks, and the show always boasted fine acting, nice sets, good direction and interesting camera work.

And it treated us to Dorothy Malone's awesome hair, LOL.🤣

I was instantly mesmerized by her intricate hairdo and marveled at how anyone could get her hair to hold in that style. (Mia Farrow, much later, said it was a wig.)

I thought I was such a weirdo for fixating on this woman's head, until I asked a friend if he had seen PP yet . He instantly exclaimed, "Of course! I had to watch that hair on Constance McKenzie!" (I suppose this only means that both my friend and I were nuts.)🤷‍♂️

That comment could be interpreted in some interesting ways.

Just sayin'.🫢

LOL. Well, she did start off hot. She just didn't end up that way. I guess the same could be said for all of us. Things just deteriorated for her more quickly in that scene.

Dorothy Malone was captivating, hair and all. So beautifully dresses in those chic suits. And in movement, she didn't as much walk as glide.

Yes, early PP was shaky. They soon realized and admitted that bringing in new characters not connected to the town was a mistake eg the Schusters.

There really was too much story for 2 half hours. So sometimes characters like Connie were not seen enough.

I guess I could see her take as Allison as having a sensuality that she wanted to keep a reign on since she was still reeling from finding out about how she was conceived and trying not to be like her mother...and/or trying to find a balance between childhood trauma and adult sexuality.

Also, don't be dissing the Halloween movies... Halloween II was a decent movie that really expanded the soap opera elements of the franchise.   I still marvel that some of my favorite horror movies were written by soap opera writers (Bob Guza Jr's Prom Night & Curtains... and Victor Miller's Friday the 13th).

You feel like that about Pamela Susan Shoop & hot tubs while I felt like that about Janet Leigh and showers LOL

Alas, most people's hotness quotient fades with time.🥺

That is the perfect way to describe her. What a dish, with real star appeal.

I loathed the Schusters. Particularly Doris. I wanted her killed off from day one.

I agree. At least TPTB realized the gold they had in the cast, and elevated several of the younger players to full leads.

Personally, I found Halloween II to be a major failure after the excellent original film. To me, the only good films in the franchise were Halloween and Halloween H20

I've never like anything Guza penned. Miller was at TGL from 1986-87 and 1995-97, IMHO two of the show's weakest periods.

I don't know about you guys, but personally, if I am going to daydream about anyone in water, I'll stick with cutie Chris Evans.

But that's just me.🙃

Hers went quickly in that scene. Although one could argue she got "hotter". Sorry. Dad jokes.

TBH, it seemed like they early on would struggle to bring in people outside the "core" group, so all these characters would ultimately be jettisoned off sooner or later. The Schusters were just the first ones after the first storyline resolution, but then you had all the Chernaks, Fowlers, Webbers, Winters, Jills and Rachels that only seemed to pass through the show. Maybe more episodes per week could've eased more characters into staying (though I do like how broken so many characters that pass through end up getting).

Unfortunately, losing Allison that early really did a trick on the show - Rachel was sort of working, but then Leigh Taylor-Young got pregnant and they wrote her out, leaving the Carsons without much to do again. I do wonder if the show should've just recast Allison and been done with it, then again, once Jill enters the scene the show is so obviously old hat with the changing 60s. The endless droning about the scandal of her being a single mom while they're also doing more "modern" teen storylines / "race" politics was an interesting contrast at least.
