I like these scenes with Smitty and Samantha. It's almost like the writers were aware of how the result might be once we got the reveal so they are showing all sides for those who don't get why Smitty would be mad regardless of why Martin did it. Well-played.

HAHAHAHAHA! ANITA, NOT A HOT TODDY!!!!

Hmmm...why would Jacob's Father want that footage?

Yeeeah I am liking it in and of itself. They are playing beats so that I can respect. But overall so far, it feels very much like a Thursday episode...and Thursday did a good job of that already.  So it's odd for a Friday.

Liking this reveal scene. I was shocked that Anita jumped when Nicole shot up. I jumped. And oh...we are going there by calling it what it is! Go 'head, BTG! It's been a minute since a soap here in the states have touched on something tropical. And now Anita is getting into it with Nicole. More for TT's Emmy reel.

Awwww not this rift between Smitty and Jacob. Oh, no! Samantha is eavesdropping.

I mean when Nicole says it like that. lol. THAT was a soapy moment.

Oh this dialogue!!! lol.

Jacob is these pants...MMMmmm. That said...it's sad watching everyone closing ranks and freezing Jacob out. Typical good guy hero stuff.

Aww. The pictures. The flashbacks...again seeing some of that pre-secret Martin. So BC is playing a little bit different.

Good coda.

And next week looks good since the synopsis for next week made it look like a good, but meh week outside of Nicole on a warpath.

I was coming here to say the same thing. A missed opportunity to show the mother/son dynamics we’ve been denied for five months.

To be fair, they showed more of Martin with his mama more than they ever do with his father.

Really enjoyed today. Loved Nicole going off on Anita. I’m excited to see her on the war path.

Same. So many layers going on in their confrontation.

the relationships within the richardsons have been lacking since the show began — especially when compared with the hamiltons. now that the shi* is hitting the fan, those gaps are glaring.

Exactly. Martin didn't have a true one-on-one with his mother, Nicole, until very recently. The writers do not write her character with the same care as the other core 4.

And like I said he STILL had more interactions with his mama than he did with his father. Yes, I'm aware that he saw her 2 times versus the 1 time he saw his dad, but still true. ;)

And it still doesn't change what Faulkner said.

You should be asking why and not focusing on semantics.

It's way too early for this show to be writing with bias and favoritism.

When the creator is one of the show runners/head writers... bias and favoritism is more likely a thing.  Especially if said creator has indicated that the characters have been playing in her mind for years.

Which is a shame. It's a horrible way to write a show.

What happened to fairness?

Anita was so busy justifying the cover up that she was missing the entire point of why Nicole was angry. If your child kills somebody it would be kind of nice to be clued in on it. Not sure if it's the writer's intention, but Vernon and Anita not having a son seems to have pushed them to overstep with Martin. I won't go as far as saying Vernon and Anita are bad parents, but they aren't the best.

Smitty is going on and on about Martin endangering the family when he is doing a lot of digging for his article that could expose them to danger. And his whole attitude with Jacob was uncalled for after he dragged Jacob into getting into his investigation.

Hopefully, Smitty & Jacob will kiss & make up, lol.

I think it's interesting that Vernon and Anita basically just took Sweet Baby away from Nicole & Ted and act like he's theirs since he's a politician.  I've always thought he should've been written as their son, but honestly, the way it's being handled makes better sense from a dramatic standpoint.  It reveals yet another "family flaw" hiding beneath the surface of a family that attempts to put on such a pretty facade.

Odd man out probably, but I thought Anita & Nicole's scenes were extremely good.

They are writing Vernon and Anita, realistic for "some" elders in the black community. They act quickly in the name of protecting the family, but in the process, they end up hurting even more people. In all that covering up, did anyone even attempt to get Martin some mental care? Hell, did Vernon get any?
