Considering that a soap opera hasn't been launched in over 25 years, I think the show is doing well.

In 2025, you're not going to get a soap opera on the level of soaps you watched before the 1990s for a variety of reasons.

- All scenes are filmed out of order.  No longer do shows do the live to tape process.

- No longer are there rehearsals before filming the episodes.

- Most of the greats retired/passed away without teaching a lot of the new generation how to produce or write a soap opera in the pre 2000 way.

Also, this isn't filmed where soap operas were filmed so the show is using local talent that is hitting it out of the park.  It reminds me of the CBN soap Another life that used local talent in the Virginia beach area.

Lastly, soaps take several months to get going.. and I think the show is in good shape after 56 episodes (at least compared to other soaps that started in the late 80s and 90s like Generations, SunSet Beach, Passions, etc)

LOL!! Kat seems to be a better at putting things together than the actual police.  She's definitely more interesting like this compared to her real job, whatever it is.

Those Eva/Tomas could've been so much better with a better actor because their discussion about parents was pretty good.

Come on in! The water (and my comments which you know how I write from the HW Thread

) is fine!!! I am sure my comments should help you along nicely.

And I think you know better than most, I can be fair.  But I can't remember if you were for or against slow burns...cuz Month 2 is full of them. As for characters, I do feel you will love Eva and the SilkPress. And Nosy Nurse since you love Housewives. I feel it's done a good job of giving old school soap, but modernizing it at the same time. Beats ARE getting hit. There's A story (The SilkPress storyline being the best paced so far), B plots, and even C plots. The show is still finding its rhythm, but I don't out and out hate anyone and everyone has gotten time to shine. ANNNND it is having the best May Sweeps so far from what I've viewing (I am behind on DAYS though and GH and I are on break mostly).

But...I agree with others. It has been VERY subjective up in here so you should come in and make up your own mind. I of course, look forward to your thoughts.

Vanguard spent the year before the show aired declaring that BTG was anti-Black 'guaranteed trash' for not using his fanfiction ideas. (Ask him about it, he won't admit it though it's in his posting history across his multiple accounts of the same name.)

He now spends most of his posts spamming old clips pleading for them to hire people from bad Tyler Perry soaps. There is a lot to fix about BTG IMO, but there is also better, more valid and serious critical discussion to be had with other posters who are actually not furious that the show is renewed til at least the fall of next year.

Oh, let's click the blocked message for a moment and see what you have to say here. What are you right about re: Beyond the Gates? Be explicit with everyone here on the forum about what you mean. Is it guaranteed trash, like you said months before it first aired? Simple yes or no question. And if so, why other than 'I am not writing it'?

Ashley and Derek have to be some of the lamest 30-somethings around. How does Derek, a grown man, think it's reasonable to crash on his married friend's couch? You're too old for this.

Ashley claims to be Type A, but she's missing work for a minor fight? Also, the acting has been rough the past two days...and Andre out here with the flaring nostrils having a whole emotional moment because Jen is out here being dramatic. Andre you're crying like you're the one fighting with Derek. I like this man less and less. These three stay PMO.

I'm excited for this Articulette reunion. This girls better be carrying some bones about Anita and Vernon.

Not Tomas being mad at Kat because she's on track to figure out who ran down Laura. Tomas straight threw Kat under the bus too. He's playing both sides and wants the cake and to eat it too. Not to say, Kat hasn't been relentless about Eva, but she wasn't wrong to be suspicious and now with Leslie's manipulative lies why wouldn't Kat be suspicious.

-- Much better show than yesterday, although that was a low bar to surpass.

-- Kat as detective is fun, and I appreciate that Jacob isn't made to look like an idiot while Kat gets it all right.

-- The Anita/Tracy stuff was OK, although awfully cliched so far. I understand the Supremes stuff, but they need to do their own thing, too.

-- Tracy and Anita recited those lines about being together and finished in unison with "Articulettes strong." Sorry, that made no sense. The "________ strong" phrase didn't become a thing until the 2010's. No way were they saying it 25+ years ago.

-- Alex Alegria (Tomas) performs better with Eva than Kat.

-- Since Laura has an impeccable manicure while in the hospital, maybe she should take a couple minutes and do something with her hair. Why they're clearly styling her as "hospital patient," that doesn't jibe with those nails.

-- The Derek and Ashley stuff is SOOOO BAD that I'm captivated by it. Every scene is like watching a trainwreck. Are they letting middle schoolers write for that couple?

Ashley responds like a 12 year old to everything. It's embarrassing. When Jacob told her to text Derek, she said "What if he doesn't answer?" Jesus. Every response she has comes off like an emotional release from a teenager.

Derek continues to be the big lug who means well but just doesn't get it. He's written with zero depth. Still, I blame the writing for what we get from him more than I blame the writing for Ashley. Jen Jacob just isn't cutting it, and she's making a ton of wrong choices.

-- Any couple living in that 2x4 apartment would struggle. It's insane for Ashley to yell things like "It's MY place and these are all MY things." Girl, you live in a hole and don't even have a double bed.

I think at this point I'd rather see Ashley recast more than Derekt. They need someone more charismatic and authentic, who doesn't come off as "acting," especially if they have to carry this horrible writing.

Ashley's whole reaction has been embarrassing. To the point, I don't understand how Andre isn't completely put off by this behavior. But then again, Andre was out here breaking down with Ashley about this whole situation. *Screams into a pillow* It's so embarrassing!

Derek gives off dumb jock vibes. He seems so unaware and confused by everything. Like how at your big age don't you think scrubbing something like stainless steel with a scouring pad is a bad idea? And why would you think to ask a married buddy to sleep on his couch. Both this characters are insufferable. Andre right up there with them, but I think that's more a me thing.

    • No, you're totally correct, for whatever reason I was thinking of Cape Canaveral. Is the writing staff trying to use coded messaging ? Javi was very specific that he wasn't fired for being gay, but he was harassed into quitting. I wish Johnny was going to work at the paper, I'd like him with Chad. I hope there's no foreshadowing in Tate and Shawn feeling queasy…
    • The red carpet was so lame and cringworthy. The biggest fool in PC is the last to arrive. Wish everyone in PC would stand in line to slap Willow in the face for being so dumb. The best part of the episode was Alexis finally telling her psycho daughter Kristina that her days are numbered.

    • I think it's the next day, or nothing explicitly ties this one to the prior one, unless Shawn had on the same clothes as when he called in sick? So maybe I'm wrong. Did they acknowledge that Tate's little sister and babymama seem to have the same birthday? And why wasn't Tate invited to Rachel's tea party?? Javi trained to be an EMT (I thought it was in Corpus Christi, though). He revealed this after he saved Sarah from certain death -- by reminding her that she had an EpiPen -- and Leo questioned how he knew what to do.
    • Lol. For one...that jacket was off. For another...the costume designer went for comfortable BUT form fitting at the same time. For another...I guess JM is working out again cuz he looked yummy.    That said...yep. BtG suuuuuure do.
    • Same as me. So you already know what's coming as soon as I sit down to start watching this week.
    • 5-19   You know what? I actually didn't dislike it as much the second time around. But tbf, I didn't hate it the first time either. It's already been established so far that RC's breakdowns can be pretty hit or miss. And I would say his average so far on this show has been 50/50.   Outside of Jacob vs Silk Press Sheila, it was all B/C plots. However, I got the sense that there was plot movement...something for better or for worse, RC does know how to do. And even within those plots, I felt there were so good character development moments.   What really stood out for me was Doug and Vanessa's last scene. FINALLY, they stopped dancing around it. And we got more information on what their arrangement truly is in terms of their marriage. Given the building toward it through Vanessa's sexacapedes and Doug's gambling storyline, it felt earned. And lest we forget...he still didn't tell her about his addiction nor what's going on with Joey. Meanwhile, Dani is slowly getting clues from seeing Vanessa with Joey one episode to seeing Doug in the middle of the afternoon on this episode. I don't see it as them shoving her into a storyline unlike Carly on GH if an example is needed, but it wasn't exactly organic either. Then again, the Vanessa with Joey scene was organic. Not the gambling stuff.    I did like it though. It was a nice spotlight for the Dani/Pamela friendship. And I also liked the idea that was mentioned about a Pamela vs Vanessa feud. After all, regardless of what's written on the page, they both appear on screen to be close to Dani. And I find it relatable to see two friends have issues when they are close friends to the same person, but NOT to each other. And their scene with Diego was ripe with tension.   Just cuz...HEY, DIEGO, HEY!! lol.   I loved Jacob vs SilkPress. The web that girl stays weaving continues to be fascinating to watch. I know we have discussed at length about how long SilkPress can stay on the canvas. As soon as it's figured out what she's done with Laura and allegedly Eva/Kat, it's OVER. And such a soap find...it's fascinating to watch a crafty villainess worming her way around getting caught. Which is giving old school soap. I also love that in her worming her way out of the charges, no one is being dumbed down to keep her on the canvas. So this next turn in the story is great, refreshing, and probably should be studied by other soaps.   I enjoyed Dani and Andre. Again, it has had a build. And technically if we are going there, it's about to be three months. Usually three months is the perfect time to start having the 'what are we' conversation...whether someone is casually dating or just being a booty call. And that look Andre gave Dani when she said Bill's name...oooooo he's finally over her talking about him and showing a sign of possessiveness. It's also not lost on me that his reaction to her saying her reasons...was to leave. Big uh oh for them. Where will Dani/Andre go next?   Well...look who got comfortable enough in his role that he gave some good acting aka Tomas. I liked the scenes with Tomas and Kat on a second watch. But I don't think Kat's wrong with what she said. She's so busy and focused on Eva though, she's ignoring red signs with him I am afraid.   And speaking on comfortable...look at Derek trying to act. lol. Personally, I thought both actor and actress did good jobs. And again, it's had enough of a build, you knew it was coming. And I'm surprised to type it, but I was Team Derek for that argument. He was trying to make her feel better, and it just made things worse. And Ashley was being unsufferable. How was he to know about the curry? And of course, she runs right into Andre.    Decent cliffhanger though I'm a firm NO to Andre/Ashley versus me being open to it at the start of the show. Wow...how things have changed.
    • IMDB credited that episode to Bill Bell and Pat Falken Smith, too, so obviously way off!
    • Sonny and Carly look ridiculous with this child thats the same age as Michael’s children. Maurice literally looks like he’s babysitting a grandchild but instead she’s calling him daddy.
