@ranger1rg @DemetriKaneI was sure I was swimming upstream alone on this. I get that they are all proud to be Duprees, but the writers are just overplaying it. Ted's an ass, but presumably, he's been a model husband for the last 25 (?) years...but he just isn't good enough (or can handle or whatever..) a Dupree woman? *cough*

I guess the next "shocker" is whatever Vernon and Anita's secret is. I hope it's something a little more original than him cheating on Anita.

No it's alphabetical between the two openings - the A-whatever is opening 1 and whatever-Z is opening 2. So in theory, if his last name started with an A, he'd be first in opening 1 and they would have had to remove Maurice (who was in opening 2), which requires edits to both. Unless I'm going crazy haha

You might be going crazy and overthinking, because that's not how it goes.  Right now, it's the Hamiltons versus the Richardsons in the openings, with Alex Alegria/Buglioli/Ben Gavin with the Richardsons (Opening B), while Jen Jacob is with the Hamiltons (Opening A).

Opening A:

  • Brandon Claybon
  • Timon Kyle Durrett
  • Marquita Goings
  • Jibre Hordges
  • Jen Jacob
  • Mike Manning
  • RhonniRose Mantilla
  • Arielle Prepetit

Opening B:

  • Alex Alegria
  • Lauren Buglioli
  • Sean Freeman
  • Ben Gavin
  • Trisha Mann-Grant
  • Ambyr Michelle
  • Colby Muhammad
  • Keith D. Robinson

By your reasoning, the opening should be (and would make zero sense):

Opening A:

  • Alex Alegria
  • Lauren Buglioli
  • Brandon Claybon
  • Timon Kyle Durrett
  • Sean Freeman
  • Ben Gavin
  • Marquita Goings
  • Jibre Hordges

Opening B:

  • Jen Jacob
  • Trisha Mann-Grant
  • Mike Manning
  • RhonniRose Mantilla
  • Ambry Michelle
  • Colby Muhammad
  • Keith D. Robinson
  • Arielle Prepetit

@P.J. No, you are not alone in this. I agree, the writers have overused "I'm a Dupree." I get it, but if they could pace themselves and use the term at more pivotal moments, I believe it would have more impact. Right now, they turn me off. A part of it is that they went the opposite way I felt they should have with the core four, Anita should be our favorite character, and I am sorry she is at the bottom of my list. Why do I care more for Nicole, the daughter who has everything, over Dani, the underdog? Like I said, it's an odd setup that I am getting used to.

I look forward to the in-laws interacting more and bonding away from the Duprees. I already root for Bill and Bradley, I see myself warming up to New Ted soon.

I view the Duprees as being very insecure and paranoid about losing their status so they proclaim 'I'm a Dupree' just as much for themselves as their enemies.  I swear Nicole is the Marilyn Munster of the Duprees.

And the lack of in-law interactions on the show has always baffled me.  When my parents were alive and we would visit family... my mom had close ties with both of her sister in laws (i.e. she and two other women were all married to brothers) and my dad got along well with his brother in law (Both of them were married to sisters).

So I'm glad that we're starting to get some in law interactions because those relationships are just as valuable as the ones amongst the actual family members.  Jacob/Smitty/Bill/Ted should all have some history/interactions with one another... though I admit I wish there was a hetero Dupree male because than we could have a daughter/sister in law that might not gel/get along with the other Dupree women and is closer to the Dupree men/male in laws.

Running in late and a bit out of order cuz yesterday was a mess but since I'm here...

So far I am liking that there are a lot of hotties and bubbles on display. lol.

A lot of plot is moving and/or being touched on. Right down to ANOTHER of Vanessa's many men. He was cute and bubbled, too.

So far, I'm not feeling SilkPress vs NuTed.

I got the feeling she's always been slightly too flirty with him?  But this brings up a comment I've had whenever I see Vanessa with these weird men (or was this one we've seen before) who she has role play sex hijinks with...  They always just come off as plain bizarre.  This guy followed her in the middle of the day to a cafe?  The dialogue always seems like they want to push the boundaries too with what they can say but then just comes off as incredibly weird (something about what she did with her foot?)

And oh yes, let's go to an underground/backroom casino to try to raise money for our new upstart agency?

I hate to say it, and I didn't catch the writers for this episode, but I felt this was another episode like some past ones where the dialogue throughout sounded off and not natural--and too filled with references and metaphors that maybe looked nice on paper but not so much when people say them.

(Oh and random--why cast a day actor as a surgeon for a tiny scene and then reveal in the next hospital scene that he can't do it because of a family emergency?  Just... kinda weird.)

    • Major flaw! And that's why I said Dani would've been better of an screwed up kid (black sheep). Nicole got an award because she's doing important work. Depression is real, Mental illness is real. People are homeless and committing suicide in jails because they lack proper help. Yes, she modeled, but I mean, even Tyra pivoted into acting, talk shows, her own company, managing other models, etc.
    • I will admit to not liking John Bolger in the role of Phillip, but on rewatch, he has a really nice friend chemistry with Michael and Krista. And I think it's the only period of time where Phillip hasn't pulled Rick into some stupid scheme that ends up hurting the friendship.

You're right about everything! The casino needs to go and it's ugly! The ugliest set on BTG.
    • Jayne Bentzen is the actress who played Nicole at that point. She joined Edge the year before, replacing Maeve McGuire.
    • Wait.....Anita is an EGOT, Vernon was an important Senator, and Dani was an international model (no matter how brief, although I thought she said she was on par with Tyra Banks(or someone)...meanwhile, Nicole's some nice psychologist/psychiatrist with an award on her wall...but Dani's hasn't added to the Dupree mystique?  I don't think the writers considered ever having any Dupree be less than utterly fabulously successful  and that's actually flaw in the structure of the show.  Oh, I forgot to say...Smitty acts like she stumbled into Vanessa's Only Fans account and paid for a picture of her dirty undies before realizing it was her.
    • I watched another batch of episodes and I have a sense of dread. I fear they are setting up a murder storyline with one of my favorite characters as the victim. I don't know if that would be considered a spoiler so won't reveal the character. If that's so, i will be extremely disappointed as this person has done Emmy caliber work and would create such a void on the show.  If I'm right, I think I know who the suspect will be and I would rather the suspect be murdered.  Joel Crothers's Miles has had more of a presence with his wife Nicole and I enjoy both actors. Crothers is just so yummy and charismatic. Don't know who plays Nicole but I like their relationship.  Ann Williams has been phenomenal as Margo. Margo is desperate to keep Eliot and make April happy. Williams had a nice scene with Kibbee's Geraldine about Logan and the baby. Eliot has been so slimy and menacing but he's so watchable. April and Draper are still fighting over the baby and something has happened to April to land her in the hospital. I just keep hoping she'll kick Draper out. The man is such a pain. Raven needs to come back and sleep with him. She can liven him up. Ann Flood and Frances Fisher had a wonderfully written scene where Deborah confesses her feelings for Owen. The writing and acting for this scene was first-rate. I want more of Flood. It's good to see Fisher getting more to do. Steve and his low cut shirts have been sidelined lately. The writers are setting up a Deborah/Nola confrontation.  Paige and Brian are still pretty much an afterthought. The movie plot is coming along nicely and there was a great episode where Margo had a party for the movie at her penthouse. Still enjoying the show.
    • See, I imagine it as some kind of "private" room within a bigger casino.
    • I like Nicole for several reasons, she has all the good attributes and qualities of a good person. You have to be a huge hater to dislike someone like her. I consider Dani an underdog. She had a lot to live up to and she hasn't contributed to the family name imo. Naomi and Martin seem to had more flourishing careers than she has.  She might've had a long marriage, but Bill cheated on her left and right. I am sure they had some good times, but I wouldn't call it a great marriage or anything to brag about. She modeled for what 2/3 years? That's not that successful, especially if she didn't pivot to something more lucrative. And that is the real reason she plays momanger cause she is living through Chelsea. Dani is nothing without her family name. Nicole doesn't need the Dupree; she made her own mark! And that's what you should do when you're born with privilege, flip that [!@#$%^&*]! The opportunity is there for the writers to play up her insecurities and resentment issues, but will they? There must've been a reason for her to choose Bill over someone with more status, or coming from another wealthy family. Right?  I don't expect everyone to understand her, but I do, and probably would've made her a more screw up and didn't amount to much outside having some kids.  The lack of crossover from the in-laws always bothered me, too. I hope at some point we get some family dinners. I know it's not earth-shattering entertainment, but I'm a sucker for those scenes. And you can still move the story along, too! I forgot all about my boo Jacob, and he was on today. He, for some reason, reminds me of Garfield the cat!

You're right about that hetero bio son Dupree, though.
