Y&R: May 2025 Discussion Thread

@Paul Raven @ranger1rg

Well the average age of Y&R viewer is almost 70yo so these references like the Cola Wars would resonate with the audience. To be fair - Audra and Kyle did talk about social media being the focus of the campaign.

I'd rather Audra and Kyle have clothes-less video go viral than to listen to outdated business concepts. As if, Audra could launch even one product without any hires, R&D, etc. Skip this nonsense and hit the sheets.

Any doubts about Nikki's business prowess at running Chancellor were forever extinguished by the scene that played at the entrance to the GCAC where Claire detailed to Kyle  how her grandmother took down a cocky young exec over  a real estate deal.

Hayley Erin dug deep to channel Nikki's savvy business persona while Micheal Mealor remembered that the the best acting is reacting, as he stood wide eyed and open mouthed taking in Nikki's handling of the situation.

We can only imagine Melody Thomas Scott's commanding performance as Nikki took center stage in Lady Boss mode and how the newbie actor playing her scene partner rose to the challenge as sparkling dialogue ricocheted back and forth.

And a special shout out to Y&R's set designers who we sure would have created an office set that reflected Nikki's elegance and good taste.

To viewers  bothered by  Y&R's continued business focus, this scene that dealt with power dynamics, sexism in business and privilege put paid to that criticism once and for all.

Stars from all five U.S. soaps performing tonight May 29 in a benefit for St. Jude's Children's Hospital
https://michaelfairmantv.com/the-young-and-the-restless-lily-brooks-obriant-interview-daytime-at-night-benefit-st-jude/2025/05/15/

The event is being organized by Lily Brooks O'Briant who plays Lucy Romalotti.

Karla Mosley and Melissa Claire Egan grew up in the same area and happened to attend school together as teens in New York state, and did musical theater together way back then.  I think they'll do a number together tonight.

Groaning at Pietro the party planner raving about Nikki Newman, style icon. And then Nikki appears in the ghastly floral pantsuit. maybe if it was a jacket only... and a soft blouse underneath?

  • Nikki’s white floral suit on The Young and the Restless

Hate when the writers have the characters be well known to the general public and yet when the various kidnappings/long lost children etc occur it doesn't seem to get any publicity.

And Victor is simply intolerable. Any nuance that character had is long gone and he now is simply a pathetic, rambling old man who is about as threatening as a piece of wet toast. And still the family are under his thumb.

By now, they should laugh off his threats and leave him alone in his chair at the ranch.

Seems Traci and Julie on Days are both shopping at 'Granny's Garments'.

You just can't go wrong with a loose print long line jacket (hides those figure faults, gals), a comfy pair of slacks, a scoop neck T and some chunky accent jewelry. And don't forget your crowning glory-a wash 'n' go hair do.

    • I never liked Reva, either the first time around, or the second. My issue for the first go round was that Reva dominated the show, which was a shame because I didn't like the character.  Loud, insecure, narcissistic "look at me", "here I am, entertain me" individuals irritate me in real life.  It wouldn't have mattered to me who portrayed the character...Zimmer or someone else. Reva is a character inherently inimical to the idea of ensemble.   Post 1995, Reva was no longer a character, but a device.
    • I have no idea why Gio would go to Sonny first since he told Emma he thought Sonny knew about him all along. Maybe to clarify if Sonny knew?  Considering Sonny didn't know Dante was his son back then it doesn't really matter. I am sure Sonny will make some wise parallel about his father leaving and his mother dying or being lied to by Olivia and Gio will see the light.
    • I know I have heard Orpheus mention it, at least in passing.  I still don't know why exactly he hates John though.  It seems Orpheus was heavily leaning into a Stefano moment of Marlena obsession, but then he always wanted to murder her a bunch so it's unclear.
    • I always thought that whoever pitched his return story in 2016 just didn't do their homework, and didn't know that the real Roman was the one who killed Orpheus' wife.
    • Xander is Victor's son, but thought he was his nephew until Victor's will.  His mom is an alcoholic who ran Sarah down then left town.  He's got a kid with Sarah and then is related to the rest of the Kiriakis brood. I would argue Orpheus lost his purpose years ago.  I lost the plot with Orpheus when his entire beef was with John and not Roman.  The person who actually killed his wife. Too be kind I'll just say it looks like Chandler was a bit out of practice at the old acting game.  He's never stopped smirking.
    • He is Victor's son so Bo and Philip are his brothers and Brady and Shawn are his nephews. Justin has remained his first cousin

    • -- I didn't want to be the first person to mention it, because I've complained so much about Chandler Massey's smirking and grinning in the past. He just cannot get through a scene without breaking -- that grin broke through every time he ran into another character today. He looks young -- and good -- but I am not a fan of this acting. He's not trying. -- I agree with others here about this goodbye. The bandaged John is a throwback and a full circle moment, but it's gone on too many days already. I especially hate the "He's getting better" stuff. That doesn't work since we all know how this ends. -- I'm glad to see the return of all these characters and I love the flashbacks, but I think DAYS could have done all that without the bandaged exit.
    • That's the one thing I really dislike about all this. Orpheus should not be alive.  If anything, I hope he's erased from existence from here on. He has no purpose now that John is dead.
    • Yeah, it's so undignified. And looked it! But man, you can tell Stephen Nichols, etc. are not acting. They should've canned the fake voice guy at the very least. Great, now I have to try to remember who the fúck Xander is related to.
