Don't stop now. You're just getting started. But you're doing a simply marvelous job!

How low is this bar set?

April 23rd, 2025, a Wednesday. This day dawned bright & shining, The residents of SalemCyber awoke refreshed. Suddenly it dawned on them what day it was. DAYS could become a real soap again! The villagers rejoiced.

I don't know. Who?

At GH recurring drive story. Of course I wouldn't recommend it,

"We are liberated!" - exclaimed a voice from the crowd, igniting a wave of hysterical cheers that echoed so powerfully, the birds flew out from the tree branches.

It marked the initiation of a new beginning.

It's already broken. What we can do is... piece it together.

The first step is actually very predictable. I'm thinking of watching DAYS tomorrow.

Their best story was the hit and run last year. No secrets kept and they were a unified team throughout. I also liked Xander's emotional growth during the strike (which Ron abandoned immediately).

Cat wore a $300 blouse to paint kid's faces?  Seems like a poor candidate for a stepmom, because she's got some unrealistic expectations for children's behavior.

Also @Soaplovers @carolineg I really like your whole exploration of Stephanie and Kayla.  It is such a great reminder that a little character progress costs nothing, and would be so welcome.

Not a chance.

But there were some things that I liked: what’s happening onscreen right now for example.

Paul/Christopher Sean

Exactly.

Even if things aren’t perfect over the next few weeks/months, the guy who’s responsible for most of the problems is finally gone.

Yeah… I still can’t help but wonder if there was a reason why Ron’s run ended right in the middle of the hospital fundraiser.

And I don’t know if these are actual changes in the writing already but I noticed little differences from the very beginning, most notably in the Kayla/Maggie scene and with the music playing in Horton Town Square. There seemed to be more of an interest in Kayla, in general. She was used so much more effectively today. And I don’t think we’ve ever heard that music before either.

I also like that the interest in Kayla continued on in her scenes with JJ as well. Her being part of the EJ storyline is a good idea.

And Sarah/NuRachel having scenes together? That was a surprise too. I didn’t think Days even remembered that Sarah originally thought Rachel was Baby Mickey. Too soon to make any judgements about NuRachel though, but I will admit that for the first time in a long time, Rachel didn’t seem like a demon spawn.

Unfortunately, Kristen hasn’t changed at all but I think that might be more on Stacy Haiduk than the writing. She was exactly the same as she always was in her scenes with EJ today. Btw, I don’t buy that EJ is suddenly deciding to be a better person. The act could be interesting though.

But we did get a classic Ron moment, which I actually didn’t mind because Xander looked hot

All in all, today was an improvement over yesterday, but at the same time, I don’t think it’s solely because of the writer change. I’m sure we all know why yesterday was so lousy, and quite honestly, it’s a little sad that Ron went out that way.

But I am so looking forward to what happens next. It really is a brand new day.

There are two words to rain on the parade of excitement about the new writers: KEN CORDAY. As long as the production team is answering to him there's really no hope for this sad show. This is the man who kept Carlivati for 7 years, who fired the best head writing duo they had after Jim Reilly's mess (Cwicky/Brash who were replaced by Higley, the McTavish of Days, who Ken hired not once not twice but three times) who got rid of EPs who made the show look great (Noel Maxam and Ed Scott) who keeps his friends on staff even when they are completely incompetent or aged out of their jobs (costume "designer" Richard Bloore, actor Josh Taylor for instance).  I'm sure Paula and Jean love the show and will have some glimmers of humanity and old school soap in their storytelling but the show lives on fumes for a budget and so many of the characters have been damaged by horrid stories (they're either back from the dead, actors playing a different part when they spent years playing another part, characters who break laws even when they're not the villain and get away with it (Hope killing Stefano for which Josh Griffith should have been banned from soaps on this one story alone). I could go on.  It truly doesn't matter who's head writing this show. If Paula and Jean show promise they will be fired (unless Ken truly retires like Bill Bell did) or the show will be cancelled.

    • I loathed Duke and especially loathed Anna being with Duke.   I hated that the tango was one of their things.    I don't care about Chase one way or another.   I would have enjoyed finally Finola dancing as Anna without Duke.  But it wasn't that important to me.
    • Doug looked delicious in Thursday's episode. The episode wasn't as great as Wednesday's. I was a bit disappointed. It was nice seeing Paul again but I'm not thrilled at the way their writing John's exist.
    • ^ May 21, 2025, Skyy Sandifer scriptwriter for Days.   On May 22, 2025, Jamey Giddens posted a pic of himself with Skyy Sandifer https://www.instagram.com/p/DJ-ePraNBN9/ Caption:  From #Ambitions to #SistasOnBET and now #BeyondTheGates, @sincerelyskyy has been my ride-or-die. #Writers @atlgathers (atlgathers is "The Gathering Spot Atlanta")
    • Thanks again @Paul Raven .  With Denny we now get the arrival of Toni Bua. If the show had been renewed, I wonder if she would have stayed on. Given the influx of new female characters in her age range, I don't know.
    • Happy 40th anniversary, Bo and Hope!

And it was so great to see them again, and for the two of them to finally have scenes with both Shawn and Ciara, as a family. I especially enjoyed the first scene with Hope at Bo’s bedside and the flashback to their wedding. It was really sweet. Victoria Konefal did a really good job too. It really is a shame that things didn’t work out with her… and that her character was so disregarded by the previous writing team. And yeah, they really didn’t need to have Ciara mention her serial killer though. It was not necessary. I mean, Ron’s gone lol we don’t need to do this anymore. And I don’t know where she was going with those leather pants either. As for John, like I said yesterday, I just don’t know. I’m glad that he’s a part of trying to save Bo’s life, but to have him go out like this… As much as I disliked the whole Orpheus thing, maybe they should’ve continued on with that for John’s exit story. Like I said before, and have John sacrifice his own life to kill Orpheus once and for all. Because the fact that Orpheus is still gonna be alive while John isn’t kinda pisses me off. I can’t help but wonder if this was always planned or if Paula/Jeanne changed the story. But I think this whole thing is gonna be very divisive. Soap Twitter/social media will probably be explosive today.
    • It was interesting to peruse Twitter and seeing some fans who were very upset Anna didn't get to do a tango with Chase, while others were glad because they felt that was her special dance with Duke. A good reminder of how long-lasting soap fanbases can be, even as the show has tried to move Anna on. How any Duke/Anna fan did manage to stick with the show I don't know, but points for will power, I suppose.
    • It's probably a good thing most of us don't post here often now as the shameful conduct of the "legacy media" enabling the attention seeking and grudge holding of Tapper and Alex Thompson would probably have broken the servers. I avoid CNN as often as I can, so I had no idea that every anchor on CNN, probably even an AI Larry King, was plugging the book 24/7. The wagons truly are circling, as even some journalists who love to pretend they aren't like the rest, like Dave Weigel, have joined in. I am at the point where I have no use for any major reporters or media figures. I find it especially disgusting when I see reporters who talk about losing loved ones supporting this book after the reports you posted.
    • That wasn't an original song. That song is by ABC and was a huge hit in the 80's. As I was watching I was thinking he just ruined a great tune.

        Looking forward to that.
    • The Hollands obviously had long term story in place for Lee/Caroline/Bobby etc but when the Pollocks arrived they quickly wrapped it up with the new diagnosis and sent them packing. That could have been it for Lee but I think the Elmans brought Lee/Scotty back in their short stint.  Somebody must have regretted dumping Lee.I'm sure Peter Hansen was happy to get the call to return.
