TBH I don't mind Martin and Smitty having older children

Do we know what age they adopted them, as? It's refreshing if they adopted them older given most people only want newborns

while i’ve certainly done my share of handwaving when it comes to soap ages that’s not to say that age doesn’t exist — or matter. as someone up thread noted, the show’s barely a week old.

if they’re serious, i can’t see them waiting three years. i find the whole idea insulting to my intelligence and hoping that someone (perhaps his grandfather) cautions patience.

i also think they missed a real opportunity with martin’s character (actor aside). the conflict between him and smitty would have a lot more depth if martin had just been elected and was feeling overwhelmed by his his new responsibilities, which was taking its toll on his marriage. the way this story is unfolding, martin just seems like a selfish, self-absorbed dick — a 25-year old whose self-absorption would have context.

Martin to me is a testament to the fact that no amount of handsomeness, sexiness, hotness etc... can substitute screen presence, charisma and talent. Get him on recurring and give Shanice her spot in the intro.

So is Vanessa's husband a recurring or contract player bc somehting tells me she is going to be a widow in the near future

they talked about reading them bedtime stories so that would imply young to me. Like 6-7 at the oldest

I agree. There were far fewer characters featured today which gave the stories room to breath. I liked how Jazmen Darnell Brown's script referenced actual media like TMZ and the Shade Room rather than trying to cute with made-up punny names. We are still getting some exposition-laden dialogue ("my favorite son-in-law") but there is less, and most of the exposition is more natural - the women gossiping at the diner or Vanessa showing Doug pictures of their kid on her phone.

I would just like one scene where Eva to interrogates Nicole about her past so we can get a sense of the ages and the timeline.

Doug is recurring

Find me a rich gay couple that looks as hot and as young... as Martin and Smitty are right now... that adopted children 10 years ago... While they were what?? In the mid to late 20s... And I'll admit that I'm wrong.

But I'm sorry... This is not that big of a deal... None of us are saying that this is some kind of a disaster... It's just absurd. Like many things in soap operas btw.

But it is strange and unrealistic.

Very refreshing to take a break from Dani/Bill and that storyline.

I like Kat, but damn she had no reason to be such a bitch out of nowhere to Eva.  I guess this will be her personality.  I loved seeing Eva meet Ted already!  That was impactful.

Great seeing a new day and other characters' storylines today!

Right lol . I could give a damn about ages on a fictional show especially an entertaining one.

I agree about the refreshing pause from the borderline personality stuff.

But I don't agree about Kat. If I see someone going through my mother's stuff like that and then that someone says to me... Why are you not with your mama... Like she is some type of authority... I'll be more than a bitch and probably call security. Lol.

That judgmental look from head to toe.
