I love SOAPDISH but I think TOOTSIE is better. Generally I am quite fond of gender-benders. VICTOR, VICTORIA, most favorite.

I tend to have two minds about Tawny (Kathy Najimy) fainting during Soapdish's big reveal. You're the costume designer, if anything, you should have known the whole time. I guess it's an application of what TV Tropes calls the "Rule of Funny."

I found Soapdish very funny. The cast is great. Delirious with John Candy and Mariel Hemingway (and Emma Samms!) came out the same year and I had expected to prefer Delirious, but Soapdish is one that I can watch repeatedly.

Every time I watch Delirious, I always want the genuine romance in John and Mariel's reunion at the deli counter to last longer.

Her assessment would be true for recent decades, but 1991 was arguably the last period a number of soaps were well-written (better written than her film work by that point).

Film critics had their knives out for Sally in this period. I'll start a separate thread on the movies page.

I have very detailed synopses of all 1976 storylines for the soaps from the Daytime Serial Newsletter.

Please let me know if you are interested in a particular show and I will post it in the appropriate thread.

As I stated they are very detailed, so I don't want to clutter up threads if posters are not interested.

My favorite moment in SOAPDISH is the HW taking the star to the mall in NJ to improve "morale"!!

Paul, as for me, in general I am VERY interested in reading these. So, from my POV, you could post one every week & I would be all smiles. As for what shows I would be interested in: everything but Valiant Lady, Portia/Life, 5 Daughters, Another Life, that's it.

I'm requesting Love of Life, please.

I just edited a DAYS episode 8-27-90 with Eve, Nick, Julie, John, Izzy, Victor, Bo, Carly, some young guy named Chad, Johnny Corelli, business men/thugs from a movie that is going to be made & from a construction company, little kid friend of ShawnD's, ShawnD although he is at the bottom of a long narrow hole & is either asleep or unconscious. Full closing credits with voiceover: Next on Another World: Vicky, posing as Marley, will she be able to fool Jamie? Then, on Santa Barbara something about Mack & Gretchen, whoever they are.

Jason47's episode summaries clarify everything.
https://daytimeroyaltyonline.com/days-daily-summaries-1990-1999-t14806-s150.html

The construction company is "AJ Construction" (AJ = Adrienne+Justin).
Jencon Oil was building an oil refinery at the construction site.  This was adjacent to the park.
Kirk Geiger played the character Chad Webster.
The character Chad was an actor in the movie being made.

The child friend with Shawn-Douglas is his cousin Andrew Donovan.

A few episodes prior, Andrew and Shawn-Douglas were at the park playing hide-and-seek. They wandered off where they shouldn't have gone, by slipping through the gate onto the construction site.  Shawn-D fell into the hole at the oil refinery.

There were several episodes of trying to rescue Shawn-D.  Finally Carly rescued Shawn-D, but he was discovered to be deaf.  Andrew felt bad, but Bo and Shane both understood that it was an accident.  Carly later taught Shawn-D sign language.

Shawn-D was played by Scott Groff.
Andrew was played by Bradley Michael Pierce.

Oh, I see! You posted this on the general retro soap thread because of the voiceover.

Thanks for the info. I could tell this was going to be a big thing with ShawnD in this danger! Especially love that the little guy is Andrew!

Edit to ADD: Carly & Bo did not know each other before this event. And, it seems that right now Hope is dead. Carly is thin enough & she volunteers to go down in this hole. She gets all the way down, and to ShawnD. She can tell from his breathing that that is okay & whether he is asleep from trauma & exhaustion or if he is unconscious, either way, he is okay, or as okay as is possible in these fairly dire circumstances. Up above, besides Bo, there are guys who know what they are doing. So, with their help, Carly secures ShawnD in this kind of a sling thing & they slowly bring it up, up, up, till he reaches the surface. A crowd has gathered. A shout goes up. ShawnD is rushed to the hospital. Carly is with him every step of the way & at the hospital she examines him. He is okay! Nothing is broken. There are not any internal injuries. Only one problem: he can't hear.

I believe this is the list of soaps on the air that year: AMC, ATWT, AW, DAYS, DOC, EON, GL, LOL, OLTL, RH, SFT, SOM, Y&R

Edit to Add: Paul, I would ask for AW & after that, RH. (I marked those already, or in process.)
