I really wouldn't expect much 70's stuff to come out. It's always possible, but they were wiping stuff until the late 70's and it's likely gone. I'd expect mostly everything from 1980 on to exist in a studio vault though.

I find it interesting how poorly soaps are preserved for the most part. I'm from the wrestling world. Soaps were like 20x more popular than wrestling yet the preservation is so much worse. The NFL is maybe similar to soaps popularity wise and was also preserved much better. I think it would make for some good research to figure out why it is. My guess is because there were so many soaps that people just took them for granted and I think the male and female audiences are just different when it comes to that. Almost every guy collects something.

I'll never understand why soaps haven't been re-run as much or why they aren't on the big VOD services. You'd think they would be able to bring in some cash and would provide content.

Soaps aired five days a week and were looked down on (and still are), so there was never the care or effort to keep them. And some of the moments that were kept were destroyed in fires.

They aren't usually that successful when repeated, although Dark Shadows did well, probably due to only being on about five years and being seen as more of a horror/fantasy show.

I agree.  IIRC, too, they even discovered (or RE-discovered) taped footage of Super Bowl I, decades after all the footage had been deemed "lost."

March gifts.

Mitch S has added some snippets from ATWT 79 and SFT 79/77 including a brief scene with Stephanie and husband Walter Pace (Jennifer's father) who I have never seen before.

Also a grainy B/W BTS of GL 1980

And Tom Lisanti's book on Texas has been released.

After reading Megan McTavish's memoir, I think someone needs to upload Irna Phillips' unfinished memoir as a sort of palate cleanser, lol?

I've still got my DVDs but I converted them to digital so they're just being stored, basically. Although a weird thing happened & I cannot find CarJack so I am sans it/them.

Really? The last year? I began to be disenchanted when they (1) got rid of Scott Holroyd, (2) when they drastically foreshortened the umbrella story & killed off Rose, (3) Goutman threw Martha under the bus, (4) Goutman said he knew what was best for the show & he did not want or need to hear from fans.

Anything for me is game since I never Watched ATWT when it was originally on

But I know the final years were of inferior quality entertainment wise, but if I can bear to watch all the currents soaps as long as they're in HD I think I could do the same with ATWT

Very interesting. What is your soap history in real time? I mean, if you don't mind saying. Me, I began watching in 1970 with DAYS & AW & ATWT being my first soaps because they were my mother's soaps. When the shows expanded to an hour, we gave up ATWT & then I was a traditional full schedule NBC baby for a long time. Now I say my favorite soaps are 1-AW, 2-GL and 3-Santa Barbara with Honorable Mention to some of AMC & some of PC & GH since 1993.

    • Ted has been icky and giving off bad guy vibe from the first moment I saw him. I have a sensor for that and it was beeping! So...don't put all the blame on Silkpress. The woman needs a good psychiatrist, true... but Leslie is just one of the skeletons in HIS closet. Ted is even a bigger monster, because he's hidden.  IT WAS A PERFECT REVEAL. Perfect, because in the beginning of the show... Dani was envying her sister's marriage... In these first few messy weeks... her own misery and life spiraling was contrasted to the picture-perfect marriage Nicole and Ted seemed to have. (on first glance). What happened now... is very very smart writing. THIS IS THE MOMENT THE MASKS ARE FALLING! The message it delivers to me is this. It says - no matter how things look... they are not what they seem. You can't judge a marriage by how it appears to be. Aaaand in the long run... maybe the messiest-looking people (Dani Dupree, I'm talking about you!) HAVE less issues and problems than the ones that seem to have it all. The ones with the MOST skeletons in the closets and the dirty pasts.   It was an AHA moment for the whole family and the viewers and a way forward for Dani and Nicole to bond even more and realize they are MORE alike than they are different. Now it will be quite a different dynamic, because Dani will have to SUPPORT someone and not be the one getting her wounds licked always. And also another lesson. Some men are dogs. Not all of them. But a lot of them are. The difference is... some can't be easily recognized. These creeps have put very impressive masks. The show is doing this perfectly. Beat by beat. Exploring classic soap opera themes and stories. Real-life characters and situations, that are relatable and make you think... Hmm... maybe I need to dig a little deeper next time I say "these people are perfect" or otherwise. Maybe I need to think MORE. That type of storytelling. It's not easy to do that.  Brava BTG.  B-R-A-V-A!
    • I speculate that Nicole will go through cycles of numbness/grief/rage.  At some point later on, regardless of DNA results (or faked results), whether there was a baby swap or not, I think Nicole will forgive Eva, and eventually love her someday.  Nicole will come to understand that Leslie gaslighted/manipulated Eva.  Nicole will be her loving self, although more guarded than before.   Just my thoughts.
    • Lol. That comment was just silly.  I feel like The Guiding Light started it when they made me love Roger Thorpe. Leslie is pussycat in comparison and there is a lot of story to go  for her and Eva.
    • Your posts continue to amuse me. I don't know anyone else who thinks Leslie and Eva should "hightail it out of town."  And listen, soaps have been FOR DECADES keeping around villains who we know would be jailed in real life. So is it crazy to think "they are just going to let this slide"? No. It's kind of hilarious to watch you take everything that happens on this show and distort it or lead me to think, "Huh???"
    • I can't even count the amount of magazine covers and photoshoots KKL has been in the past few months. Shame that the show is not mirroring the success she's having. It would have been so great to see both KKL and Brooke be on top.  I'm still holding a grudge that Brad rewrote the company take-over to a nothing... and then nulled Brooke to being a romance beggar again.
    • I'm also getting an error that I haven't seen before, but there's been a couple of different variations, so not going to worry about it for now.
    • Finally got to sit down and watch. Wow!  When LesDanLuAnn said to Ted, this your daughter. I started tearing up...... Eva got me.  I felt like I was watching a soap opera.

    • The drag was when Tad and Edmund went to Budapest (?) in 1997 to get Maddie back from Dimitri.
    • I know it's not happening but on the surface, there's nothing left for Leslie and Eva to do but to hightail it out of town, if they value their lives. Leslie has destroyed Ted's image, embarrassed and humiliated his wife and children, and unearthed the wrath of the entire Dupree family. She's crazier than I thought if she thinks they are just going to let this slide.
