With production currently taking place in Florida, soap veteran Vincent Irizarry (“All My Children,” “Guiding Light,” et al.) has been cast as one of the leads in the historical short film “His Name is John.”
Produced by screenwriter Amber Karlins, who is also making her directorial debut, the short is set in the time immediately after World War II, with the story exploring the emotional aftermath of a family’s impossible decision in the face of unimaginable danger, as well as the complex meanings of family, identity, and survival.
“This story looks at what happens after the danger passes – when ordinary people must live with the choices they made to survive,” said Karlins, who has won several international writing awards for their work. “It’s about the emotional cost of war and the complicated meaning of family.”
Co-producers on the project, which also stars Kelen Coleman (“The Office,” “Big Little Lies”), include Michelle Romano and JC Conklin.
Upon its completion, “His Name is John” is expected to make the rounds at the international film festival circuit, with submissions beginning later this year, producers said.
