DAYS: November 2024 Discussion Thread

I read that when DAYS moved to Peacock, they brought 2 million subscribers to Peacock & the account I was reading thought that was an excellent number. I was thinking, also, that it meant that 2 million viewers LEFT NBC!!! Couldn't have happened to a more deserving network, at least as far as daytime soaps go!! Surely it's clear that of the broadcast networks from the POV of daytime soaps, that NBC was ALWAYS #3 for a reason!

Too bad we didn’t get any follow up with Belle, Paul and Andrew today.

Philip/Sarah/Xander was actually the best part of today, probably because Philip wasn’t being written as a campy clown, for most of it anyway lol his final scene with Kate kinda messed that up a little bit. But I liked his scenes with Sarah and that he let her know that Xander was gonna kill him. Having all this cause problems for Xander and Sarah’s marriage, and possibly giving a Philip/Sarah/Xander triangle could be really good. Weaving in Stephanie/Alex/Chanel/Johnny/Joy could be good as well. And I hope the secret of Victor’s letter being fake is dragged out for a while.

Btw, I would totally be down for Xander buying the streaming service and canceling Body&Soul

Kristen is just annoying, and the whole serum thing was pointless, especially now that it looks like it’s over. She’s so stuck in that corner with Brady that I don’t even see what else they could do with her character.

As for Chad, I’ve already said how I feel about his crappy storyline lol

I feel like Kristen/Brady have some variation of this same conversation every few months.  In six months they'll be discussing a different serum, flower, computer chip, etc and Brady still won't want Kristen lol.  I wish the show would ditch Kristen or at least ditch this Brady/Kristen relationship.  It's never been viable and it hasn't been interesting in years.  Also, I know Brady's jacket is supposed to have that crinkled leather, but it just looks dirty on camera.

The whole Steve/Roman conversation would have been much better with John, but such is life.  I am glad Roman gets something to do outside the pub though I guess.

Xander really just needs to stop trying to randomly kill his relatives lol.  Sarah really puts up with a lot of sh*t from Xander lol.  JPL seems like a nice guy and would probably be great fun in real life to hang out with, but he is so wrong for Phillip I can't even deal with it.  I am still so confused what he's going for.  Has he ever seen clips of JKJ's Phillip?  Even clips of KB's Phillip?

This is a pretty filler episode where half the characters spend the entire episode talking about people that aren't in the episode (Clyde, Cat)

McGarry, M., & Hinsey, C. (Eds.) (2024 December) SOAPS' 50 GREATEST COUPLES: Soap Opera Digest Collector’s Edition.

DAYS Doug & Julie #19

My objection: Doug & Julie should always be in Top 10.

"Suddenly Bill Bell turned her plot around & threw it away & turned my plot around & threw it away & started making a plot for Julie & Doug. It was a big day!" Bill Hayes Digest 2015

According to the mag Doug's memorial is set for the show's 15,000th episode in December.
DAYS John & Marlena #12
My objection: John & Marlena should always be in Top 5.
The mag has lots of quotes from Drake. It also gives the history of all 5 of their marriages & also their divorces.
My compliment overall. The pictures are good.

It's amazing that Kristen gave up her John obsession so quickly.  I mean, I get it was a lot of hijinks for a lot of years, but with Kristen's personality it is almost strange she moved on to Brady and it's lasted this long.

SOD has always been more pro Bo/Hope than John/Marlena and then every other Days super couple sort of falls in line after those two for whatever reason.  Days has a lot of couples to choose from I suppose.  Plus, SOD always ranks GH couples super high-even ones that haven't been together for eons.

You have to hand to Roman, because he pulled the guess that “go to hell” was a code word straight from his tush.   I know he worked for the ISA, but that was an interesting, and rather sudden, solution.  However, if Roman is getting a little smarter as the result of the loss of John, that is a good thing to come out of this grief.

I am in the minority, but Kristen tears as she pled with Brady felt real.  She seems to know how alone she is in the world after visiting Marlena and being ignored.  And I felt for her that she is longing for a family after loosing her brother and her mother.  People (including the board of DI) underestimate Kristen, and I think that is an intriguing part of her character.  I mean, Brady's not exactly a catch (dumb, unemployed, bad dye job on his beard), so she must be motivated by more than an obsession with him specifically.

I wonder if Xander buying the streaming service will be the eventual end of the B&S story?  The payoff of Xander shooting the gun was silly, and could've been better used

Also, did we not get a promo for this week?

Also, Kate telling Alex and Stefanie that they can't date is the exact same story as Paulina telling Rafe and Jada that they couldn't date.

And, not for nothing, but both stories are a complete misrepresentation of workplace sexual harassment policies (which is no surprise given the production).  A job site can recommend that people not date, or that they should inform HR, but it would be illegal to have a written policy that two consenting adults can't have a romance.

I mean, it doesn't take a psychoanalytic scholar to call out the projection onto female power sources who misuse their power to tamper down the libidinal urges of their underlings.

Yes, I believe you are correct.  The Day of Days promo is the promo for as long as I recall.

Raping Eric was the big nope for me, but Brady/Eric had been at odds on and off.  I still need someone to explain to me why Kristen would even want Brady at this point.  He's not exactly a catch.   Not that Kristen is either, but I assume she can find a 50 year that has a house and a job lol.

I would posit it is more of a Marlena thing.  Given that she was just ignored while Marlena basked in the glory of family.  I think Kristen wants what Marlena has, but she lacks the character to get it.

Arguably, Marlena has committed more crimes, and worse offenses, than Kristen, but people still love and respect her.  I mean, compare rape, identity theft, and kidnapping to being a serial murderer and a desecrating a church.

I feel like Kristen's central conflict has always been with Marlena, and the question of what has she got that Kristen lacks...

    • I've watched more episodes, but I wanted to make one short comment before I made my longer post. Someone on the show loves dressing men in ways where they have plunging necklines and show lots of chest hair. Not complaining but I think Chief Marceau (sp?) and Logan are the only two who have not shown their chest hair at this point. I have now watched episodes 6077 to 6090. I'm up to September 11, 1979. Nancy and Mike have returned from their vacation. Ann Flood is another wonderful presence. She's only had a few scenes, but I already like her. They're worrying about Draper and his lost job offer in New York. The truth is slowly coming out. I can't say that I'm invested all that much. I still don't care all that much about Draper, but he's no longer bellowing and whining so it's all good. He has had some nice scenes with April and there was an uncomfortable confrontation with Margo. Draper and Logan's scenes are where I like him the best. The two actors play well off each other. Also, Draper and Raven have an interesting thing in scenes. I wonder if they hook up at some point. They always give each other weird looks during scenes. Is this foreshadowing? Hmmm. The Raven of it all. MY word Sharon Gabet is amazing. How did she not win the Emmy? Was this going on during the Judith Light time? Gabet owns every scene. Raven and Eliot's scenes crack me up. Gabet and Lois Kibee are giving masterclass acting scenes in their moments together. I never wanted their confrontations to end. Kibbee's Geraldine has discovered Raven doing something she should not be doing and that confrontation was pitch perfect. The later scene with Logan was shocking. He does something that I've rarely seen on soaps. Such good storytelling and acting. I also liked how April and Draper were drawn into the madness.  Paige/Tobias/kidnapping/Steve: This is the one storyline that suffers because I came into the show late. I'm not connecting to it as much although I enjoy it. Steve and his low cut shirt amuse me. Calvin is such a cute and bright presence. I thought they were writing him off, but he's back  so apparently not. Marceau seems to be leaving but I hope not. The actor is wonderful. Deborah has come back in the episode I just started so Frances Fisher is here. I will say the actor playing Tobias is excellent. I think he was on another ABC show I watched but I'm not googling.  Nora/Owen/Eddie/Brian/Paige: After a week of non-stop Nora, the movie storyline has not started full force yet. It's more about Nora's drinking and Brian and Paige's feelings for each other. Nora is becoming more manipulative as she lies to all of them so they will make the movie. Owen revealed Brian's secret which I accidentally guess from the first episode, but I actually don't think it's true. Eliot/Margo: Margo had a fantastic scene with April where April confronted her about the real relationship she has with Eliot. Mario admitted the truth. It's so refreshing when characters are intelligent and honest. It makes their mistakes even more heartbreaking. They're not idiots. Eliot is such a fabulous character. He's an absolute slime and yet he's one of the most compelling characters on the show. So nice to be hooked into a soap opera again.

    • I was under the impression that it is always wrong to post private email unless there is some threat of bodily harm. But I think your doing so brings up an interesting point since it shows that I had known about the illness/disease since the prior April if I am wrong & you are right & my point was to break the news why didn't I post it ages ago? My reply is that my point was never about scoop or breaking news.  Somewhere in this onslaught you've said I posted about some actors having an affair. I have zero idea what or who you're talking about.  You mention a cast member's medical condition which about a dozen people discussed & someone NOT ME began the discussion at least a month before I joined it.  Is everyone who took part in that conversation based on having concern for the actress in trouble or just me? There are definitely things that are not true ... and they are not lies told by me. Probably they are things being misremembered.
    • Lol.  I still believe there is a place for Joss on the canvas.  This just isn't it and I am not sure Eden McCoy is the right choice for the role.
    • I haven't read it since high school--but it has stuck with me and is a pretty important book (as a kid I did always assumed it was related to the Wells work too

    • I am entertained by the Duprees.
    • This would be a weird comment to make about the face of the show if it wasn't damn accurate. In the 90s she was mostly confined to her own orbit with her daughters and Cass, aside from a few stories. Her relationship with Rachel was pretty weird too. A case of tell not show. They seemed to be there for each other at big moments (weddings, funerals, etc.) and proclaim how close they were, but rarely interacted outside of those. I only remember one storyline they had together - the Lucas lookalike - but that was more about their significant others' animosity if I'm remembering correctly. In hindsight, it was pretty strange how little Rachel, Felicia & Donna - all around the same age give or take - had to do with each other for the last decade. The actresses were all top-10 in longevity for the entire show and made it to the finish line, but never meaningfully mixed it up at the end. Even Donna dating Rachel's son didn't lead to many interactions between those 2. I can understand JFP's reasoning for getting rid of Donna, even if I didn't agree with it (she was my favorite of the 3).
    • The people of Genova should all be 300lb. All they do is hangout and restaurants
    • It's called being pro-active.. something that soap operas have failed to do in the last twenty to twenty five years. The Duprees are not a compelling family.. .a lot of telling and not showing.  I'm actually more invested in the non-Dupree characters then the Duprees right now.
