You could tell whatever may have been wanted with Gio and Trina was dumped by Frank or whoever immediately as Gio was mooning over Joss (no idea if that is still a thing).

The worst part is I remain convinced we will hear of a Spencer recast about a week after Trina leaves.

I do think there were a lot of plans percolating over Gio early on - the constant mentions of his being an orphan, of his secret dead hero dad, etc. I suspect there was some creative tug of war over the character, over maybe testing him with Joss instead of Trina, etc. and then once Mulcahey was gone they seemed to toss most of it period and move on to other things. Their attention span seems extremely erratic even for this team lately. I can't tell if they've actually dropped or even concluded the Wagger saga.

I do wonder if the Dante/BLQ secret child hints around Gio will actually return, which wouldn't shock me though I'd hate that for all of them.

Me too, at this point.

She also initiated the sex, not him.

I agree that Gio was intended for a romance with Trina. When they began to get more heavily involved in this "hard reset" for some unknown reason they apparently changed their minds & decided not to go forward with Romantic Trio.

I am dubious about them setting her up with a jock. But, we'll see.

Of course, my bias could be a part of my thoughts because I was frankly enamored of this idea of her dating a son or a grandson (or greatgranson?) of Justus Ward's.

They're an example of systemic organizational racism. Wait, I'm sorry, I answered the question as if it was about Trina but you're asking about Sprina. More complicated. Half is Spencer, a Cassadine & as far as I can tell the Cassadine moratorium is still on.  Then, with Trina, we're back to the institutionalized racism.

It's very depressing; the only changes we've received this year are a writing change, and then a half-reversal of that change. I cannot recall a same-year writing change, or a change like that in recent years. As hands-in as I fully believe Disney-ABC Television are... I also question where their hands are. It should be starting at the top, with Frank Valentini & Nathan Varni, and then at the entire writing staff. This should be goal for 2025 at this point.

Thank you. Like I said yesterday, FV is petty enough to do something like that. I just find it shocking how all the storylines that dominated the spring/summer either vanished...understandable with a writing change...or took a turn that went in a 180 direction (at most) from the direction it appeared to be going. Now it seems like any interesting/controversial idea that made it through that time period is being choked out honestly.

Hmmm...perhaps...to throw out another theory...the ideas were approved for a writer capable of giving them nuances and good story ideas? But alas.

And THAT is part of the problem.

Back during Shelly Altman's time, I remember her exit interview, where she said there were "sensitivity issues" to some storylines (ie: Aiden's sexuality) that caused [some] things to be paused and nixed.

❝ Digest: Are there stories you wish you had another crack at?

Altman: Oh, yes, for sure. What I regret most are the stories that we aborted because of some trepidation, stories that may have been controversial and because of pressure that came from various places, we put a pin in them. For example, I feel we did not do justice to the story of Aiden’s sexuality. There were many sensitivity issues there. I do feel that was a story we did not see to its fullest realization, and I regret that. Similarly, there was a story that we pitched and we started when Julian was in prison. He was beaten up; we saw someone with tattoos all over him. We were going to tell a story about Julian and others having to fight against a white supremacy group. That was all that was on the air, and then it was never told. Again, there were questions, there were concerns, which I understand, but I personally regret not fighting more for stories I believed in that I thought were important to tell. ❞

Where whose hands are? What does that even mean?

And, BTW, I don't agree with you, but it's on a question maybe you'd call degrees. I don't think this "hard reset" is coming out of Frank's pettiness. (Please note I am not saying that he's not petty at times.) No, I think it's coming out of unmitigated anger, more the kind of red hot, sizzling stuff rather than elevated snark. That is all. A small point.

    • I 100% agree but I think this is due to how the show is structured. It's a one family show which means there are no people in her age range that could be used as friends or contemporaries of her. The show definitely needs a second main family. I am glad someone finally said this. Especially now that the cast is gelling in their roles, he stands out like a sore thumb. No energy, no chemistry with anybody. He is just there.  I thought that was odd as well! The previous scene would've worked better as a tag for the credits.
    • That's the one and only Carrie Nye (Mrs. Dick Cavett) as Susan Piper, a deadly realtor. I don't want to spoil a lot if you ever want to see those episodes. She returns as another character in 2003. I think Grant has aged well and he always did a good job at being ripped without going too far, but he was never entirely my cup of tea either. I did think John Bolger was hot.
    • Totally agree. KKL looks great! It makes the Widge groveling so bizarre. Brooke needs to leave FC and with $B's/Liam's funding launch a rival fashion house with Hope, Rick, Katie and a secret designer. The best scenario is that Rick has been absent because he's been with very much alive C2, who is revealed on the runway as the secret designer. It'll never happen because B&B is comfortable just focusing on FC and the Forresters Marones v. Logans. But it'd been so much more interesting if the Spencers/Logans united.

    • Haha that scarf thing did go on a bit too long, very odd. And what a young Rick!  I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I just never got the physical appeal of Grant Aleksander, but he's definitely a great actor. Who is the older lady around the 8:30 mark, and also ends the episode, alone and in pain? She seems like a really interesting character. I love the smoky voice and sultry, snaky vibe she seems to have.
    • I can't remember exactly but I think she lives in or is part of the cottage story with Carrie. Carrie poisons her in this episode.  I forgot Teresa was on the show. (I see that AI is insisting she wasn't - well they're wrong) Poor Maeve. I can how even she had her limits.
    • It pisses me off that the other Duprees are making this incident all about them as well. They are playing a family of victims, acting as if Ted cheated on all of them. They should be supportive, but not like this. I have a family that makes anything that happens to me personally all about them, and seeing the same thing on TV is rage-inducing.
    • There are the makings of good Emmy reels in these past couple of episodes, but the industry is still going to favor even the most mediocre stories and performances on the older soaps. And with the pressure from the government over race I can see the academy shutting out Beyond The Gates to avoid criticism from the administration and the far right media.
    • oh, definitely! It's too bad she hit the start of a rough transition period for the show. She shines, but she's stuck with bad story and some (if not exactly bad) not great co-stars.  Uh, who did Maureen O'Sullivan play? (Sigh--and only if I'd understood exactly who and how wonderful Teresa Wright was in '86) God, the summer of '84 was literally one event after another. Kim's outfit alone must've been worth a small fortune. And poor Maeve. She looks so uncomfortable. Rebecca Hollen told a story on Locher Room where Maeve dropped the f-bomb during the shooting of it. For some reason, she wasn't being listened to, and had just had enough. As a producer, I would've been holding my breath as my pregnant actress kept walking around strange and undoubtably uneven sets in that long skirt.
