Members DramatistDreamer
Did anyone else feel that this morning? And after marveling at the preparedness of Taiwan, we get rumbling here with a scattershot alert system here, with some in NYC getting alerts 30 minutes late and the rest, nada. Get it together, USA.

Members Faulkner
I thought my building was collapsing. And, yes, the alerts were very late.
Members DramatistDreamer
Lebanon, NJ was said to have been the epicenter but that tectonic activity was felt all over the NYC metropolitan area, the tri-state (including CT) and down the Atlantic to Philadelphia. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/04/05/us/earthquake-new-york
Members DramatistDreamer
Do you live in a pre-war building? I used to live in one and I loved the high ceilings but I doubt many pre-war buildings are reinforced structurally.
Members Faulkner
I do, yeah. In Washington Heights. And it was super frightening for that very reason. I jumped into a doorway, but I doubt that would have been helpful if the building was crumbling.

I didnt know what it was at first, but then when I heard my coworkers talking about it, I knew what was going on. Actually, as I type this, I think we just had an aftershock.
Members Faulkner
Yeah, people are saying on Twitter they felt it. I am traveling now so I’m not there to witness it like this morning.
Members AbcNbc247
Luckily, it didn’t happen while I was on the train going home lol
Members Soapsuds
@AbcNbc247 Glad to hear you are ok. Be careful with those aftershocks. Can't believe an earthquake in NJ of all places. Of course we had one in Texas a while back. I remember sitting in my chair and it moving around on me. Later I found out I live close to a fault line.
