With the exception of “The Young and the Restless” (3.308 million) and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.515 million), every other daytime broadcast series was down compared to one week earlier among Total Viewers, according to Nielsen figures released for the week of January 22-26, 2024.

News shows were the hardest hit, particularly NBC’s lineup consisting of TODAY 3rd Hour” (2.047 million; down -386,000 viewers),  “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” (1.478 million; down -291,000 viewers) and “NBC News Daily” (1.223 million; down -216,000 viewers).

Among Women 18-49, “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.761 million) and “The Talk” (1.354 million) were the only shows to see some improvement in either the rounded or unrounded category week-to-week. Meanwhile, in Women 25-54, “The Talk” and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” were the only shows to see week-to-week improvement in rounded or unrounded.

Compared to the same week last year, “The View” (2.461 million) was up +64,000 viewers, and for the week remained the most watched and highest rated among all network and syndicated daytime talk shows and news programs, including “Live with Kelly and Mark” (2.416 million).

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of January 22-26, 2024 in Women 18-49 Rating, Women 25-54 Rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performances in 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020 (pre-pandemic), which provides readers with a clearer picture of how the shows are performing overall during a five-year period and/or the basis for an overall trend. The numbers above are calculated using Live+Same Day viewing and DVR playback, defined as 3:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m. and are courtesy of Nielsen. Household ratings are the percentage of TV homes in the U.S. tuned into television, each of which represents 1,250,000 homes as of the 2023-2024 television season.

Note*: Officially, the demo ratings are sorted by the rounded figures released by Nielsen. “NBC News Daily” 2022, 2021 and 2020 figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives,” which moved to Peacock exclusively beginning September 12, 2022. “GMA3: What You Need to Know” 2020 (pre-pandemic) figures are compared to “GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke.”

Year-to-year comparisons (2024 vs. 2023) for most daytime broadcast shows among Households and Total Viewers will be unavailable for the foreseeable future due to figures being unavailable to Soap Opera Network during that period.

**Notable Preemptions/Schedule Changes

  • Nielsen reported no preemptions and/or schedule changes during the week of January 22-26, 2024.

    • Erwin Nicholson's last episode as SFT ep was 11/21. Whitesell started 11/22/85. Erwin was on board from March 8, 1985 so less than 9 months. Whitesell lasts six months (approximately) before P&G moved him to AW for two years where he primarily worked with DePriest. Whitesell was replaced on Search by no daytime experience David Lawrence who closed out the show's last six months.

    • I assume in name only?  One Stormy Night wasn't exactly steamy.  If it's a literal throwback then Stephanie's writing about sexy times her own Uncle was having lol. Since I am going to surmise it's just a throwback to the name, Night Sins and Winter Heat both sound sexier.  Just saying.  I swear Jamey (and Ron) just google things and land on the first thing they like and decide it's a good throwback to history without watching it.

    • Thanks!   Was anyone watching during this time? Wondering how Peggy’s rape played out onscreen. It just seems cruel to subject the Brooks family to this trauma a 2nd time.   Feels like the writers have already given up on the character of Jennifer, even though she sticks around another year-plus. She should be a passionate and fierce protective mother, but instead she seems just reactionary (and not even mentioned in this recap) This was also the case in ‘73 when Chris was raped. The writers are definitely more invested Stuart as the Brooks parent.
    • BTG got another SNL reference at 00:50  CONTEXT (so it isn't misconstrued) in this joke swap segment, Michael Che frequently makes his white cohost Colin Jost read racist jokes written by Che.
