DAYS: January 2024 Discussion Thread

On the one hand, I liked that Chanel and Jada were given the opportunity to discuss racism from their perspective.  So often we see racism and homophobia stories that are only about becoming empowered in the face of being victimized.  However, both women talked about enduring issues that aren't simply resolved by punishing a single evil or ignorant person.

Yet, I think what rings hollow about today's script is that they only seem to discuss race once a year.

I agree.

I love how we've turned Johnny into a quintessential himbo, lol.

Ron Carlivati needs to lean into that more and make Johnny basically the Chrissy Snow of Salem.

Today was a strange one.

I’m not really sure about the way Sloan was written. It almost seemed out of character for her. Her guilt over what’s happened makes sense but she’s never seemed like the type to be intimidated by anyone, not even Marlena. And what was this implication that John and Marlena could be judgmental all about? Maybe this was written around the time that the BTS troubles were reaching their fever pitch.

I wouldn’t mind Sloan’s guilt driving her to become an alcoholic. Even though I still would have preferred her guilt driving her to sleep with Dimitri

And I’m not sure about Harris either. His anti-Dimera attitude seemed to come out of nowhere. Were his feelings for Ava really that deep already?

I’m glad that Alex finally apologized to Justin though. I hope we get some more insight into the way he’s been feeling.

I’m still wondering when he even got his law degree

I always get a kick out of seeing especially actresses play drunk & this was in no way a disappointment. Sloan totally got snockered in record time & made an absolute & utter fool of herself. It made perfect sense to me that she worked herself up ahead of time worrying about the kind of impression she'd be making with Marlena & John, although, perhaps it was really just Marlena that she was worried about. She wouldn't be the first woman to be afraid of her husband's mother disapproving of her. For her part in things Marlena is just well put together & calm & unruffled & on top of all that, she's a shrink to practically the entire community. And, of course, we know that Sloan is suffering under the weight of a huge guilty conscience. She clearly was puzzled at Sloan's behavior but then so was Eric!

I was discussing Fired Guy still being in the closing credits with someone & trying to compute. Alarr was fired on Aug. 4th & they keep 6 months of show in the can, so, counting on my fingers, that comes to Feb. 4th. @JAS0N47 does that sound right?

Yep, we could easily see Sloan slugging down wine at every opportunity! But, you've gotta give up on this Dimitri dream with him gone with no sign of a return.

I guess I didn't take it as an anti-DiMera attitude. Don't you figure they conducted the raid based on a tip?!! They'd have had to have something like that to be able to get a search warrant.

Absolutely! And, how brilliant of Justin to get him out of that adult jail. Rehab & group therapy & all of that is gonna be very hard on Tate but it's still so much better than the danger of his being in an adult jail.

I figure he got a law degree to go along with an MBA, from a business point of view.

Well, I thought today was another good DAYS

    • I agree.  Of course, I haven't seen any of her work on DAYS or LIAMST, but I have seen her stuff on other shows (SFT, GH, LOL, FC and KL) and I think she was very, very good.
    • Yup, i thought it was Adamson. Backtracking...I love that Kristina knows now. Her smug disrespectful attitude toward Alexis was pissing me off. If not for the blackmailing Alexis part I would be rooting for Ric. This a been a decent sweeps period for GH, I'm liking the stories right now. Good thing I can watch third party GH clips online to keep up because Beyond The Gates is keeping attention at 2PM. It's making me miss my days of living in a 3pm GH market.
    • I always thought it was a bit odd that they brought in the brother and sister of a character who had been killed off ages before, and who was the wife of a character no longer on the show (Jeff). They were really dull. I would think the reason he hated playing Dan was that he was Brooke's plaything while she was waiting around for a more exciting lover. Just like Wally, he was portrayed as a dullard and a bust in the bedroom. Many, many moons ago, I saw Kelly on Broadway in the play Deathtrap. He played the role Christopher Reeve played in the movie. I remember recognizing him from the show and thinking, wow, he's a way better actor than I thought he was! He probably had a good theatrical career after soaps.
    • This. The 1994 telecast had some of my favorite winners with Zaslow finally getting his due, Melissa Hayden, and all three major players in the Marty rape storyline getting recognized (HBS, Haskell, Howarth).
    • You thought it was Adamson? He read but apparently he had no chance. He felt disrespected by the show's reaction to him, according to his tweet.
    • I suspected the actor who played Noah Newman would become the new Michael, but I didn't expect it was the recasted Noah Newman who would become Michael!
    • I didnt mean that I thought he would kill her; just that he gave off the impression that he had the capacity to do so. The original Ted portrayed him with more of a dark side when they were together. Its the switch up I see in True Crime stories when an upstanding pillar of the community ends up doing heinous things under people's noise whom would never beleive  he'd do when in actuality, he's a covert monster. Thats a dichotomy in the character as portrayed by Maurice that I dont see anymore
    • I think one mistake that later writers made with Gail was to make her either Lee's angelic wife or the therapist that was an easy dupe for evil characters that required treatment.  Under Marland, there was a series of scenes where Tracy goaded Lee to drink, Jessie witnessed it and spilled the beans about what she saw to Gail.  Gail, then, in turn, ripped Tracy a new one.  I wish that Gail and Tracy scene still existed on YouTube.  It was glorious not only to see evil Tracy be put in her place, but to see some real fire from Gail.
    • I won't be. We all know that the shelf life of a villainess isn't very long. Trisha Mann-Grant is the breakout star of BtG and she is destined for bigger and better things.
    • I feel CBS/P&G got really shaken by 1978-1982 ABC huge rise and domination, thus the changes to the shows. Considering Capitol showed no growth, I wonder if CBS ever regretting cancelling Search for Tomorrow. From the 1980s Ratings thread, Capitol pretty much inherited Search for Tomorrow audience but Capitol ratings were impacted when One Life to Live rebounded in 1985 with Andrea Evans return. Remember Capitol was head-to-head with the second half of One Life to Live. Even if CBS kept Search for Tomorrow, I think it would've ended as soon as Bill Bell had a second show ready. Funny thing is Search for Tomorrow NBC run was only three months shorter that Capitol run.
