For years, I have been saying that any new writers should be given a stack of the top 20 episodes of the soap opera that they intend to write for, even before hiring occurs, so they familiarize themselves with the history and DNA of their prospective show, make sure that they are capable of writing in the basic style of that show. Every popular daytime drama that has ever aired for more than two years has a particular style of storytelling. Any writer worth their salt should be able to replicate that style—that is Writing for the Stage & Screen 101.
