NBC is reporting the major holdup on a contract is about AI:

"Hollywood writers and producers have made "major progress" in negotiations to end the strike that has gone on for 145 days, but a major sticking point has been language over the use of artificial intelligence, two sources familiar with the negotiations said Saturday."

They are going to use AI to eventually put everyone out of work - writers and actors, and many others. AI will be used to make many obsolete even outside of the industry. I hope if it is financially feasible the guild holds out as long as possible to help spare us that desolate future.

(the talking point is often that there's no point in fighting, it's the future...all I have to say to that is - how much are those NFTs worth today?)

And it was about darned time, too, as she was the entire reason that the Dobsons & New World went to war. The Dobsons had been told they would have 100% freedom in creating this new soap. So, when Bridget determined they could not work together & wanted to fire AHB imagine her shock that she could not do so. AHB had it written into her contract that no one could fire her but NBC. I have never understood why NBC didn't just fire her & solve the situation before it became a ridiculous war!

"It was impossible for Anne Howard Bailey to get inside my head, and I could not get in her head. She has a darker view of life than I do; I think she thinks of me as Pollyanna, and I think of her as Darth Vader." - Bridget Dobson, about SB

AI is not to be trusted.. and I see all loopholes being closed when it comes to that... from both the WGA and SAG unions before deals are finalized.

Though I think for SAG unions, I'm guessing they wouldn't mind AI being used as much if they're compensated anytime AI images of performers is used vs just a one time payout.

So it looks as though even though evil Ron C plotted out the holidays that perhaps the scab writers will be the ones to work on the scripts for those episodes.  To me, day to day is just as important as the actual storyline.

It seems that the writer’s guild got just about all of their demands met. Keep in mind that this will still need to get approval by members who have yet to vote. As for the AI provision, while no one can completely anticipate the future and the direction of AI, it does seem as if this tentative agreement respects compensation terms for the writers regardless of how/if AI is implemented. Also, people need to know that at this time, AI is pretty terrible at doing what a screenwriter does, and even worse at doing what a playwright does. Perhaps because those programming AI are not good at that type of writing. I can’t speak to twenty years from now, but at this present moment, AI is pretty atrocious at producing this type of work.

By the way, the A.M.P.T.P. is not too happy about having to accede to this agreement but judging by their statement, they realize they have no choice. Read between the lines.

Also, keep in mind that the actors are still on strike and, believe it or not, they have more and more complicated demands than the writers did.

The only shows that can restart right now are talk shows, game shows and ones that don’t require actors.

I read it this morning in the NYT this morning.

Did you check the AMPTP’s website? It may be on their website as a press release.

It was a very trite abrupt statement anyway, not sure it’s worth the effort to search for it.

    • You're probably right. They may have just wanted edits of certain characters. Hopefully the rest is around.
    • Of course!

I'm wondering if there were bits cut from this footage, because to me it seems that may be the case. At 11:23, Laurie tells her psychiatrist that the bar phoned and told her Mark got into a fight and needs to be picked up. It starts to fade to the next scene, you hear some different music begin and get cut off between the static, and where you'd expect to see the aftermath of the fight, we cut back to a later scene of Laurie in bed worrying about what's happening. The credits at the end also show that more than Mark, Laurie and Dr. Northcote should have been in this episode. Another character, Brody, played by Ed Setrakian, is mentioned but not shown. If this is the case, perhaps the original fan who saved this episode has the additional scenes.
    • Anyway… It’s a shame that the video that depicted Leticia’s death was removed from YT.

I've never seen a trainwreck like this in my entire life. 5 pencils and 3 dolls?!!!!!!!!!!! (this little moment starts close to the 7th minute) WOW. THIS IS HAPPENING IN AMERICA?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Ms. Phelps holds a BFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University, awarded in 1972. At a time when women were underrepresented in directing programs, she was one of the few women in her graduating class. To suggest that she possessed no further talents than completely changing the style of music used on soaps seems like a vast underestimate when one reads her online biography through an objective lens. I guess that I should be more clever than to constantly blame misogyny for these misguided interpretations of her management style.  But, I'll never comprehend why fans unquestionably align their opinions even years after fact. Post-modernism, and the ability to reinterpret context through the study of history, seems to elude this conversation.

    • This is 100% correct.  It was even on the nightly news where the US Government would not let the cast and crew travel to Egypt because it was deemed not safe.  The Achille Lauro hijacking took place on October 7, 1985, when the Italian ocean liner MS Achille Lauro was hijacked by four men representing the Palestine Liberation Front off the coast of Egypt, as she was sailing from Alexandria to Ashdod, Israel. The location shoot was probably scheduled to be filmed in mid-October to air throughout November with a two week tape to air date.  Remember on the show they did some in studio scenes doubling for Egypt before shifting the action to Arizona.  It was an awkward end to a truly bizarre storyline.

New episode from late 1973 or early 1974!
    • Coronation Street had a very good story where one of the characters befriended a man who she later learned had been involved in her husband's death - when told right it can be very powerful (not like AMC trying to make it a romance). ATWT almost had a big fire in mid-1994, so this seemed to be a "thing" with P&G at the time. I guess it fits the disaster backstage atmosphere.
    •   @jmgaw did not refer to Luke and Laura. Throughout 78 GH's ratings continued to rise as AW's fell. That turnaround was getting a lot of attention in the soap press with Scotty/Laura, Rick/Leslie/Monica etc . So the 90 min decision was a reaction to that. I guess the thinking was that 60 min expansion had worked so starting AW a half hour before might keep viewers from switching to GH at 3pm. I don't think anybody really thought it would work. The most sensible solution would have been to expand The Doctors and hope for a GH like turnaround, but for reasons unknown TD never went to an hour.
