Ahead of the show’s fourth season finale airing later this month, Freeform has given a green light to a fifth season of drama series “Good Trouble.” The announcement came during Tuesday’s virtual TCA press tour session.

“Freeform is evolving with young adults because we are not about an age — Freeform is an attitude,” said the network’s president Tara Duncan during opening remarks. “Series like ‘Good Trouble’ — which I am happy to announce today is being picked up for its fifth season — and our flagship series ‘Grown-ish’ and more recently ‘Cruel Summer,’ ‘Single Drunk Female,’ ‘Everything’s Trash’ and ‘The Come Up,’ our newest series which we are paneling today.”

“Good Trouble” follows the residents of Downtown Los Angeles’ The Coterie as they juggle career, love and the 20-something growing pains at a time in your life where your friends are your family.

“General Hospital” alum Bryan Craig joined the cast during season four as a series regular, playing the role of Joaquin, an independent investigative journalist with a mysterious background.

Created by Joanna Johnson (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg, the series, a spinoff of “The Fosters,” stars Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez, Tommy Martinez, Emma Hunton, Sherry Cola, Zuri Adele, Beau Mirchoff, Josh Pence and Priscilla Quintana along with the aforementioned Craig. Johnson serves as showrunner and executive producer. Christine Sacani, Greg Gugliotta, Jennifer Lopez, Benny Medina, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez also executive produce.

So far this season, “Good Trouble” ranks among the year’s top 10 ad-supported cable dramas among Women 18-34, a core sales demographic for the network.

The show hasn’t missed a beat since Callie left. IMHO, she was the lead. All her legal stories outshone Mariana’s workplace mess. Now it’s more of a true ensemble.

I’d love to see Jude move in to The Coterie, to bring in a gay male (Gael’s bisexuality always leans more heterosexual). And I’d like Luca to become a regular and perhaps romance Davia or Kelly.  I’m hoping Davia and Dennis are over for good.  They really don’t work, after all.

    • The first one is Cass Winthrop dressed as Krystle Lake on Another World (not from his original creation of the character to hide from the loan shark Tony the Tuna, but at a romance convention trying to find out what had happened to Felicia who was missing). The second one is also Another World, Jake McKinnon as Doris although I don't recall what his purpose was.
    • I know there was one brief scene in the summer of 1989 where Lillian did mention Calla.. but in relation to her past relationship to Ross and it was to Roger while he was a patient at Cedars.  I think he was trying to pump her for information on Ross.. and for some reason, Calla's name came up.   I could see perhaps Beth mentioning that her mother Lillian was visiting Calla.. but not exactly giving any sort of details as to the going ons in Calla's life off screen.

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
    • I also never understood Alex's friendship with Sonni or keeping the secret of Marah's paternity.  Not exactly heartbroken about Ms. Sally being ushered to the Hereafter.

I'm sorry but I'm a glutton for punishment. Would love to see this woman OWNING the canvas. Telling off Leslie who tells her she's the head b!tch.
