Naturi Naughton as Jill aka Da Thrill, Eve as Brianna aka Professor Sex, Brandy as Naomi aka Xplicit Lyrics, and Nadine Velazquez as Valeria aka Butter Pecan, Queens, ABC, #QueensABC

ABC has decided against a second season for “Queens,” a freshman drama that follows a hip hop group who reunite decades after their ‘90s peak. The series starred Eve, Naturi Naughton, Nadine Velazquez and Brandy as women in their 40s who work to recapture their fame, fortune and swagger.

Airing just 13 episodes, the show concluded its freshman season in February with an anemic 1.071 million viewers, a 0.20 rating in Adults 18-49 and a 0.29 rating in Adults 25-54, according to broadcast finals released by ShowBuzzDaily. In the demos, the series finale managed to top only repeat airings of dramas “Superman & Lois” and “Naomi” on The CW

.In the show’s finale episode, entitled “2022,” the Queens prepared to be inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame but they couldn’t help notice the void Brianna’s (Eve) absence from the group had left. Meanwhile, Naomi (Brandy) was waylaid when an old beau questioned JoJo’s (Precious Way; “Days of our Lives”) paternity. Elsewhere, Valeria (Velazquez) got ready to embark on a solo tour and wondered if she really was ready to go at it alone.

They really blew it with that show, and they promoted it to *death*. As said before, this needed to be on streaming or premium cable. It can’t just be a soapy girlfriend’s show on ABC. It needed real grit and sex and stank and F-bombs.

    • Would that ad even appeal to people who watched Falcon Crest at any point? By that point, did anyone really care about the show? I remember people loathing the last season and especially hating Alfonso's character.

    • True enough, and Tony and Annabelle suffer the same problem. And the people Quint and Nola had interacted with were gone--Kelly, Morgan, Helena, Mrs Renfield---even Van's been transplanted to the Lewis enclave. Nola's curiosity could've been used somehow, but after Reva's arrival it seems like Long is obsessed with selling that woman to the audience.  As originally written--no, the Chamberlains weren't stockholders anymore. At least not to my understanding. But any story where Quint and Vanessa teamed up, realizing that Alex had played them, and found some loophole to get back in to restore Henry's legacy would've been welcome. As much as I like India--Spaulding gets weird in '85 with Alex, Phillip, India and Warren fighting amongst themselves.

    • Same. And looking sooooo good.
    • Yeah this episode was actually really good. I loved SINN together against Looney
    • I can forgive them not writing a lot for Quint/Nola at Van and Billy's first wedding, given that Lisa was hugely pregnant and the other story going on was Tony's medical crisis. But yeah---Nola and Quint barely even speak to Van for that last year-plus. Not even after little Billy's born (although Nola and Van do have a nice scene, which is one of the few that they're just nice to each other) or the fallout of Van's addiction, and they flippin' leave when Billy's in a coma or right after being in one)  Even Henry goes to story Siberia. They gave them a big, new set and the promise of some Billy/Van/Nola/Quint family squabblin'--and NADA.  How COOL would it have been to see Nola side with Van and put Reva in her place? But no...NOLAROBICS. RME. Reva really needed someone outside of Josh to tell her like it was. Instead, Billy's head cheerleader. And Jon's calling him "uncle Billy", which just about made me gag.
    • 5-12   Well, as much as i've been enjoying the highs of BTG, I guess I should try to play catch up on my other soaps...lol.   I actually liked this episode. But I guess it could be because I felt there was a lot going on. Bill and Liam's talk. Luna attempting them inroads with Finn. Steffy comforting Hope over Liam. Sheila thanking Bill for helping Luna. Even a decent cliffhanger with Steffy walking in on Luna and Finn.   I know I said it before, but I don't care for the Liam storyline, but the acting has been good.
    • I enjoyed Santa Barbara from the beginning. Mainly because it was so fresh and different than the P&G soaps I was used to watching.  But there is no denying that it did not hit its stride until 1985. The writing, casting and production all finally came together. Unfortunately backstage drama then slowly destroyed the show and for me from 1988 onward it was a completely different show than the one I was a fan of.
