While the show’s current 12th season has performed sluggishly in the ratings, often ranking last in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54, CBS’ “The Talk” will be back for a 13th season, the network announced during today’s live broadcast of the series. “The producers are just telling me there is some breaking news,” shared co-host Natalie Morales who joined the panel in October 2021. “This is just coming in right now, ‘The Talk’ has been renewed for Season 13.”

Following audience cheers and drops of virtual confetti onto the show’s set, Akbar Gbajabiamila said, “That was crazy, this feels so good.” Meanwhile, Jerry O’Connell joked, “Now I know why all our bosses showed up today.” Gbajabiamila joined the panel in early September 2021, just days before the show’s current season premiered. He became the show’s second-ever male co-host following O’Connell’s joining as the first male co-host in July 2021.

In addition to the show’s renewal, all five co-hosts will be returning, including the aforementioned Morales, Gbajabiamila, O’Connell, Amanda Kloots and Sheryl Underwood. Kloots joined the panel in January 2021 and Underwood has been with the show since the show’s second season. In early March it was announced that Underwood would be staying at “The Talk” for at least three more seasons (bringing the show to season 15), in addition to signing a two-year first-look development deal with CBS Studios.

Behind the scenes, executive producers Heather Gray and Kristin Matthews will also be back.

Today’s renewal for “The Talk” came earlier than last year’s, showing a vote of confidence from the network now that all decks are steadily in place moving forward. Last June, when announcing the show’s then 12th season pickup, the talk show had been down two co-hosts following the controversial departure of Sharon Osbourne and the ongoing hiatus of Carrie Ann Inaba.

In February, “The Talk” hit a season high in Total Viewers with the show’s best performance since April 2020 when it hit 1.662 million viewers. The show is one of few bubble talk shows this season to get another season. Nearly a dozen other shows, particularly those airing in national syndication, have been canceled and won’t be returning next season, including “The Wendy Williams Show,” “The Nick Cannon Show,” “Maury,” “The Good Dish,” and “Dr. Oz,” among others.

Season 12 of “The Talk” will remain in production through August 5, 2022. Since its debut in October 2010, the show has won 14 Daytime Emmy Awards (Outstanding Talk Show Entertainment 2016, 2018; writing 2015; host 2017) out of 58 nominations.  The 13th season of “The Talk” is expected to premiere sometime in early September 2022.
