I actually kind of liked her as Donna..once the show wrote Donna like Donna..she played the part well.

However, Renee was her signature role...and from what my late mom told me... Renee vs Julie was as epic as renee vs Anna in those golden years of Days.

I'm pretty sure it was not Philece's choice to leave.

I still remember (when I was 10) how furious I was that Renee was found upstairs with a literal knife in her back!!! It made me hate DAYS for years and i refused to watch. Since AW was my daytime show, I was thrilled when she joined. She may not have been a great fit (especially with stupid writing that involved Donna and John, a very weak Donna) but I was so happy she was there, Always wanted her to join another show, but it never happened.

Philece talked about Days, Rituals and AW. Brenda Benet's tragic suicide. And Renee's murder.  As well as her voiceover work. I had no idea she was friends with comic book legend Jack Kirby.

Thank you so much for these wonderful shares.
I could never be an interviewer so maybe I shouldn't cast a stone but I really wish these folks would remember they and their stupid jokes are not the ones we are here to listen to.

Was super interesting nevertheless.

I remember seeing some of her old stuff as Renee on DAYS and finding her luminous and charming. I never understood why they would've dumped her, but I imagine there was a lot of turnover in those years and of course Leeann Hunley became popular too. I had no idea she did so much voice work. Good for her for building a whole new fandom, and RIP.

Fans were pretty pissed off about her departure in 1983, judging by the letters sent to the soap columnists.

When asked, Shelley Curtis said in 1984. "I really liked Philece's work, but it was important that somebody major on Days of Our Lives be a victim of the Salem Slasher. It was also important that it be someone not so major and involved in so many storylines that it would necessitate several other characters being killed off."

Janice Frame is Evan's mother. Janice & Mac were together. Janice was up to no good. Mitch was helping her. She was slowly, little by little, every day, POISONING Mac. She was almost successful. In St. Croix, Rachel & Janice began what was literally a physical fight. They fell into the resort swimming pool, continuing to fight each other. Somehow, I guess Janice had it on her, there was a knife in play but Rachel kept Janice from stabbing her & got it away from her & they continued to struggle until Rachel stabbed Janice, which was a death blow. Mitch did a 180 & helped Rachel get Mac to the hospital. He was so weakened by the poison he could not even stand unassisted. It took both of them together to walk him to the hospital but it did save his life.  The St. Croix remote was SO beautiful, but so dangerous & scary. Also action-packed. Hooray! Maxim's backSo, I just got home & this is what I found waiting for me. I wrote this several hours ago. I guess I neglected to hit send.
    • Thanks @skylark and @DRW50!

    • I do not think I have ever agreed with Vee. Normally I do not read him, Ignore ya know. For some unknown reason I clicked to read. And I agree 1000%. Now, this is so odd that I need to go away for a bit.
    • Justine had a lot of hooey in it, but she was an actual woman, not a guy in drag. She was a doppelganger of Rachel, French, having had a past history with Carl, etc. Two of the more outrageous parts-Justine bricking alive Vicky into a wall & Justine grinding the gears driving a big rig.
    • Hehe, twi/x actually x, formerly Twitter. Typically I find 2 sources for "crazy fan rumors" - the wrong parts of FB and x. Oy.
    • Not to hijack the thread, but was that character Justine? I just found this interview online with Logan and see what you're talking about - wow!   http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/chat85.html
    • My bad….ill fix that  Fixed
    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.
