ATWT's Damian Is Back!

We've been hinting at it for awhile now, but the deal is finally done: Paolo Seganti is returning as ATWT's Damian in May, not long after Luke comes out. "Damian is from Europe and a hot-blooded, old fashioned, square guy, so I think there will be a lot of drama," says Seganti, who lives with his family in L.A. and will be commuting to New York. "I’m going to be doing three weeks [of work] with a week off so I can be with my family." But the length of his stay is still indefinite. "It depends on Martha [byrne, Lily]," laughs Seganti of the co-star who helped facilitate his return. "She’s the one to blame or praise for me being back."

I can't wait, I can't wait! I just love Paolo and have missed his Damian Grimaldi so much.....I think this might be just what I need to start watching ATWT again. :)

great news, but only because it's temporary because, to me, I think that Holden is more of Luke's father than Damian is and Holden's reaction to Luke's coming out is more important IMO.

So, from the details, it looks like Damian's not going to be that supportive of Luke?? I hope that Holden lets go of his reservations and stands up for his son.

Great news! I would like to see how Holden would react towards Damian's rejection of Luke's sexuality. I bet he stands up for his son.

:o OMG...Yay! :D I heard about this on another board but I'm loving the "indefinite stay" part. Go, Martha!

I only saw Damian during the Malta storyline but that was enough to make me fall in love with the character.

The only thing that really excites me about this is the reaction that Holden will have to Damian's problem with Luke. Damian has been so out of Luke's life for so long that to me the rejection is more for shock value than anything. I don't see it really mattering to Luke in the long run. Holden is really the only Dad he has ever known. If Holden rejected him, I would see that as more devastating to Luke.

I totally agree with you, Steve!

i don't think they're telling this right.

Holden clearly has a problem with it. I think Damian coming in, absentee daddy, and being all accepting would stick it more to Holden. More drama.

It sounds like the way they're headed with this story is going to make Damian into the biggest ass! The TC Russell of CBS.

Okay, you're getting my hopes down. :( But then again, I really liked Damian when he was supposedly endangering everyone in Italy so who knows?

YES! YES!! YES!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!

Can't tell I'm excited, can ya? Next to hearing James Reilly is leaving Days, this is the best news I could ever hear come out of daytime. I'm a HUGE Paolo Seganti fan and hope he sticks around for the long haul.

THAT is the way I would like the storyline to go. I would like Damian to accept his son 100%, for who he is.

But if Damian were to be fully accepting of Luke, then Holden would be walking a fine line. I don't know that the show is ready or able to make a core character appear to be homophobic. (Seriously, I worry that the writing would be completely devoid of subtlety.) I like how they've portrayed Holden so far, though -- not so much anti-gay as concerned for Luke and what this means for him.

ITA. I love Damian, but IMO he isn't Luke's real father: Holden is. I think that Holden's reaction is more important than Damian's. Who's been there throughout most of Luke's childhood? More importantly, who was there when Luke got sick and almost died? Holden has, not Damian.

From what the spoiler says, though, it seems like Damian's not going to be supportive of Luke. I wouldn't like to see him be supportive just to cause trouble between Holden and Luke's relationship. Plus, I don't see Holden as not being supportive of Luke coming out anyway. So far, he and Jack are the only adults who realize what's going on with Luke. I don't think that Holden is upset about Luke being gay: he just needs to process things, especially since Luke has yet to come out.

Damian is a great character. He's full of smoldering sexuality. :P

It would make more sense for him to be accepting of Luke.

I don't know about it making more sense for Damian to be supportive or not. I know that Europeans seem to be more open to things esp. nudity and all, but the first post in the Breaking News it points out that Paolo says Damian is old-fashioned.

I am like Mrs. Lucinda, I do not see Holden as unaccepting of Luke and he is going to have to do a 160 degree turnaround if they choose to write him that way because with him figuring it out - he has made no indications that he would be disapproving. Even with Jack that day he did not seem to be.

There would be more drama if Holden rejected him and Damian didn't, but I think it would be a bad way for the writers to go. I don't know about this at all - Damian just has not been around for much of Luke's life at all - not even when he was so sick.

One thing I think about Damian and it was clear even when he tried to take Luke before - he clearly wanted Luke to carry on the Grimaldi line and be the Grimaldi heir. This will not sit well with him for that reason.

I will be anxious to see how they play this out. I still think the better route would have been to focus on those people who have been most important in Luke's life and how they handle this. Damian is a wonderful character and I love the actor, but he has just not been there and his opinion in this really does not matter to me.
