Scotty is the longest running character on Daytime. Remember, there are only four soaps now. When Kin made that comment, ATWT was long gone.

Daytime Dramas began airing on TV in the late 40's, I think 1949. So they have had a 70 year run on TV so far plus the radio soaps starting decades before. So even if a show ends, it doesnt erase their history

So id say given that Nancy on ATWT was on the show from April 2, 1956-June 2010 that she is the longest running character

Scott may have began in 1965 but he was off the show for years at a time, multiple times.

“Longest running” refers to the start time. Scotty first appeared in 1965, predating all characters on all of the other soaps, including General Hospital.

The gaps don’t matter. Scotty has been around since 1965 and predates Laura, Monica, Tracy, etc. Since Scotty debuted prior to the premiere of Days of our Lives, that makes him the longest-running character in Daytime.

If The Gaps dont matter as you said, then the longest running character by your rules would be Audrey March Hardy on GH who began airing February 1964

Audrey is no longer on the show. She hasn’t appeared since 2015. Scotty remains the longest running character on Daytime.

 

Audrey: 1964-2015

Scotty: 1965-present
