Updated! Thanks again Paul Raven, for all your help!

Wow, I had no idea Suzanne Davidson had been on for so long when I saw her in the 1979 episodes. I mean, technically I knew, as soapcentral listed her as having entered in 1972 as well, but I guess it's only sinking in now. I guess she debuted in the same year as (her frequent 1979 screen partner) Kathryn Hays then.

Quick note: Obviously, we've gotten to the more 'exciting' years at this point (and by that, I only mean that more info is available about when the show did or did not air), which means it takes a bit longer to compile the entries for each year. In addition, my regular personal life is about to start up again as the summer vacation is coming to an end. As such, my posts may become a bit less frequent, but I promise I will continue to post them. I think I'll definitely manage to get 1987 and 1988 up before the craziness begins, but after that I might be offline for a week or so.

Thanks, I added it and made some small updates to a bunch of the early 80s lists from the previous page.

This episode number lines up perfectly with the October 6 number if 1 episode was pre-empted in between. This makes it look credible that the US Open pre-emptions were in fact in place in 1982, which further backs up my suspicion that they were in place in 1981 as well. It looks as if 1981 was the first year in which ATWT was pre-empted for the US Open then.

Your welcome! Again I can’t be certain which soaps were really effected but this is just based on my own assumptions and stuff I researched for my Y&R dates.

I'd be curious on your take when CBS preempted its Daytime lineup in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 as well - 'cause I made a similar database for B&B and still have some blanks.

No problem! Even if I’m not 100% certain for which dates were possibly preempted I still compiled a list myself!

1987:

1/1(New Years Day)

7/7 (Iran contra)

7/8 (Iran Contra)

7/9 (Iran contra)

7/10 (Iran Contra)

7/13 (Iran Contra)

7/14 (Iran Contra)

7/15 (Iran Contra)

7/23 (Iran Contra)

7/24 (Iran Contra)

9/7 (US Open)

9/11 (US Open)

11/26 (Thanksgiving)

11/27 (Thanksgiving)

12/25 (Christmas Day)

1988:
1/1 (New Years Day)
9/5 (US Open)
9/9 (US Open
11/24 (Thanksgiving)
11/25 (Thanksgiving
12/26 (Unknown)

1989:
1/2 (New Years/Tournament of Roses Parade)
1/20 (George H.W Bush Inauguration)
2/20 (NBA Games)
9/4 (US Open)
9/8 (US Open)
11/23 (Thanksgiving)
11/24 (Thanksgiving)
12/25 (Christmas Day)

1990:
1/1 (New Years Day)
2/19 (Unknown, seems like only Y&R aired and the others were preempted??)
9/3 (US Open)
9/7 (US Open)
11/22 (Thanksgiving)
11/23 (Thanksgiving)
12/25 (Christmas Day)

I think Y&R might have aired on Jan 9, 1991 as well as B&B, even though I can't really confirm....and I know there's also some World Series preemptions but was ATWT ever effected?? I know GL was...

Also on one of my Y&R episodes from August 22, 1990 there's a program note that says ATWT wouldn't be airing that day, because of Special Reports...don't know if it was just that area or that counts as a preemption?

Given that this is such a data driven discussion, has anyone ever counted about how many days of story were told per year?  In other words, sometimes a soap day can last 2-10 episodes, so how many actual days past within a year of stories?  I figured since all soaps celebrate Christmas one could start with that as a day and then begin counting until the next annual celebration.

It would provide a metaphysical reason for SORASing if each year in the soap universe really only lasted 40 days, a soap character could age 10 years within the span of one human year.

    • Thanks for posting this, how fun!  LOL at this 80s windbreakers. I just love MOL - he's so funny and charming to me. I'd love to have met his mother, she sounds like a fun lady.
    • I mean, it is called the Dr Tom Horton Free Clinic, so it was kind of... a given he'd be talked about predominately? No?
    • Yeah, I wasn’t really moved by the gala either. They talked so much about Tom… but what about Alice? Mickey? And Bill! Honestly, I would’ve preferred the Hortons just sitting in the living room at the Horton house, reminiscing, with more rare flashbacks. No need for a big gala.
    • Gosh, Suzanne is such a classic - truly a beautiful person, inside and out.

    • HBS loves Gregg Marx, and often tells the story about how difficult it was filming bed scenes with Marx, while she was six month pregnant. At the time the show chose to hide her pregancy, but HBS was big. She used to joke that it was three in that bed (her, Marx and her stomach) and since Marx didn't much experience with pregnant women, he didn't know how to coordinate his body over hers to hide her stomach. Which HBS found hilarious everytime they had to do a bed scene.
    • Tut tut Jack wore no condom. And it was a shipwreck. Jennifer managed to pack her diaphragm when the boat went down and insert it right before her cave sex. Far more plausible
