I was interested where it says towards the end of the article that soap viewership is down in Brazil - does anyone on here know more, please?

He was such a fantastic actor, he was really great in Sete Vidas (Seven Lives) last year. The viewership is down in some time-slots, especially the main one where Domingas' telenovela still airs. On the other hand, the 6 o'clock and 7 o'clock soaps that finished this year (Eta Mundo Bom - What a Wonderful Life and Totalmente Demais - Totally Awesome) broke rating records.

There have been some truly tragic events occurring in relation to Brazilian soap stars. I years ago, reading about one actor who committed a 'crime of passion' and murdered one of his co-stars.

Yep, that's the case of Daniella Perez. She was an actress, daughter of prominent Brazilian telenovela writer Gloria Perez. Daniella was co-starring in her mother's 1992 telenovela De corpo e alma (Body and Soul), alongside newbie actor Guilherme de Padua, who played Daniella's love interest on the same telenovela. After the filming of one of her scenes for the show, Guilherme along with his wife abducted Daniella when she was leaving the set and she was found hours later stabbed to death. Gloria Perez couldn't finish the telenovela and was replaced, Daniella's character left the show off-screen and Guilherme's character was never mentioned as if he never existed.

 

Guilherme and his wife were jailed for a few years, but both are now out and living their lives. Despicable.
